Chapter 21 - 21

CHARLIE'S POV

The past couple of months leading up to the release of Demi's new documentary has been crazy. That might be an understatement actually. Demi has been continuously working on her new album which comes out a little less than two weeks after the first part of her documentary.

I've been going to the studio with her everyday while she worked on it which helped me get out of eating most days since she was busy. Whenever I did eat, I managed to throw it up. She thinks I'm getting better when I'm not. She always says she's proud of me but she shouldn't be.

Demi began homeschooling me because she said she's afraid to send me to an actual school in fear that I might get bullied again. I've been trying to convince her because it will help me get out of eating at lunch almost every day.

Today is the day before the documentary releases to the public and she's going to be having a premiere later tonight for close friends and family. Mom, Dad, Dallas, and Maddie all flew into LA on Saturday so they could come obviously.

"Demi! I need help figuring out what to do with my hair!" I shouted from my bedroom which we redecorated after I did my interview for the documentary.

My room had white walls, with light grey dots on them. I had a grey bed frame, a thick white blanket, a light pink blanket at the end of it, and a variety of pillows. There is a white fluffy carpet on each side of it, along with a light pink nightstand with mirrors above both. Above my bed there was a sticker that said Hello gorgeous which was Demi's idea.

"Let's see what we can do with your hair." Demi told me, appearing in my doorway and proceeding to enter. She looked absolutely stunning by the way.

Demi was wearing a white dress with black cuffs around the wrist part of the sleeves and around the neck, along with black high heels. Her hair was combed perfectly with gel and some sparkles. My older sister is literally a goddess. Later Demi is going to be wearing a long baggy pink button shirt with black polka and dark grey pants while performing songs from her new album.

"Can we do something simple?" I asked Demi.

"Oh, thank God. I thought you would want something complicated. I'm not the best at doing hair." Demi laughed.

"I know." I smiled. Demi pretended to be hurt and smacked my arm playfully.

"Just so you know, you'll be hanging out with Mom, Eddie, Dallas, and Maddie when we get there. I'll steal you from them when the premiere is over." Demi told me as she began doing my hair. We decided on making my hair wavy.

"Thank you." I smiled at Demi when she finished my hair.

"Go get dressed we need to leave very soon." Demi commanded. I went off to my bathroom, which I also redecorated along with my bedroom.

I walked into my bathroom that had light grey walls, a white bathtub, a clear standing shower, a light grey rug, a light grey counter, and a sink and toilet obviously.

- TRIGGER WARNING -

I shut my bathroom door and locked it. I immediately opened the cabinet that hid my blade in it.

'We're so proud of you.'

'At least someone is.'

I put the shiny piece of metal up against my wrist and dragged it down my arm. I made five cuts on each arm before I got up and cleaned them.

After I cleaned them I grabbed my dress that was hanging on a hook by my bathtub and put it on.

- TRIGGER WARNING OVER -

Mom ended up buying me a dress the other day. It was grey with long sleeves and it was long enough to cover up the cut on my thighs. I also ended up putting on some black leggings underneath just in case. I exited out of my bathroom, grabbing my phone, and proceeding to go downstairs.

"Demi, can I wear my converse?" I asked Demi as I entered the living room where she was.

"I don't see why not." Demi smiled at me. I grabbed my pair of black converse and put them on. As I was putting my shoes on, the doorbell rang. Demi went to go answer it.

"Are you guys ready?" Max's Australian voice asked from outside.

"Yes, I need to grab my purse." Demi replied.

"Make it quick, Demetria." Max tried to act annoyed, causing us to laugh.

"Hey, Max." I smiled at him as I took a step outside and started to walk past him.

"Hello, Charlotte." Max said as he grabbed my arm, attempting to pull me into a hug. I quickly pulled my arm back and hissed from the sting of the fresh cuts. Max looked at me suspiciously.

"Sorry, there's just a bruise on my arm." I lied to him and hugged him, trying to hide what just happened.

"Let's get going." Demi said as she stepped outside with her purse and locked the door.

—————————————————————

We arrived at The Beverly Hilton which was where the premiere was being held. Demi introduced me to a couple people. She noticed I was getting anxious so she decided to bring me straight to our family.

"Hello, baby girls." Mom smiled as she hugged us both. I immediately went into my Dad's arms for a source of comfort.

"I need to go and do an interview on the red carpet. I'll come and take Charlie back home with me after the premiere." Demi told me.

"Of course. I'm so proud of you." Mom hugged Demi again.

"Thank you, Mama." Demi smiled at her before walking away. Mom, Dad, and I went to the family car. Maddie and Dallas went to their own cars.

"I heard you did an interview for Demi's documentary?" Mom asked as she turned around from the front to look at me.

"Yep." I simply replied.

"How did that go?" Dad asked.

"It wasn't bad." I partly lied. They tried to carry on making conversation but I didn't answer much.

—————————————————————

Demi a little while later went up on stage where a man was sitting at the piano. She was wearing a baggy pink shirt with black polka dots with grey pants and black high heels.

"Hi, guys." Demi spoke into a microphone as the music to her song Anyone began playing.

I tried to talk to my piano

I tried to talk to my guitar

Talked to my imagination

Confided into alcohol

I tried and tried and tried some more

Told secrets 'til my voice was sore

Tired of empty conversation

'Cause no one hears me anymore

A hundred million stories

And a hundred million songs

I feel stupid when I sing

Nobody's listening to me

Nobody's listening

I talk to shooting stars

But they always get it wrong

I feel stupid when I pray

So, why am I praying anyway?

If nobody's listening

Anyone, please send me anyone

Lord, is there anyone?

I need someone, oh

Anyone, please send me anyone

Lord, is there anyone?

I need someone

I used to crave the world's attention

I think I cried too many times

I just need some more affection

Anything to get me by

A hundred million stories

And a hundred million songs

I feel stupid when I sing

Nobody's listening to me

Nobody's listening

I talk to shooting stars

But they always get it wrong

I feel stupid when I pray

Why the fuck am I praying anyway?

If nobody's listening

Anyone, please send me anyone

Lord, is there anyone?

I need someone, oh

Anyone, please send me anyone

Oh, Lord, is there anyone?

I need someone

Oh, anyone, I need anyone

Oh, anyone, I need someone

A hundred million stories

And a hundred million songs

I feel stupid when I sing

Nobody's listening to me

Nobody's listening

Everyone began honking their horns after she finished singing. Michael D. Ratner then came up and introduced a video of an interview she did a couple weeks before. After the video played, Demi came up again.

"All right, so I'm gonna start off with a song that I wrote for my baby sister, Charlotte. And this is- this is for you, baby girl." (A/N: I know she wrote it for Maddie but ✨imagination✨)

I didn't want those innocent eyes

To watch me fall from grace

Tried to protect you, I want to direct you

To keep you from my mistakes, yeah

I wanna be the one

You look up to when you wanna run

I want you to see my face

Whenever you're feelin' out of place

You can pick up the phone

If you're ever feeling scared and alone

I'll be the one to

Tuck your hair behind your ear

Until you fall asleep

I'll say a prayer and keep you near

You're always here with me

I promise, I'll be there, don't worry

'Cause I was blind, but now I see clearly

I see you

Sometimes I can see myself in the little things you do

But I'm not afraid that you'll lose your way

'Cause I believe in you, yeah

You're gonna be the one

Who's strong enough who can overcome

Anything in your way

I look to you and you give me strength

Always my baby-girl, already know you gon' change the world

And I will still be there to

Tuck your hair behind your ear

Until you fall asleep

I'll say a prayer and keep you near

You're always here with me

I promise, I'll be there, don't worry

'Cause I was blind, but now I see clearly

I see you

Oh-oh, oh-oh

I see you, I see you, oh-oh

When Demi finished singing the song, she looked over right at our car so I decided to step out of the car. Demi and I made direct eye contact.

"I love you, Charlotte." Demi smiled. I immediately ran up to the stage Demi was on, not caring she's still performing. I ran up onto the stage and hugged her.

"I love you, Demi." I whispered as she hugged me back.

"I love you, too." Demi replied, still hugging me. She wiped away some tears. I didn't even notice I was crying. Everyone began honking after I let go of Demi and ran back to the car. I climbed in the backseat and Demi continued performing songs from her new album.

—————————————————————

The rest of the premiere went by pretty fast. While she was performing, I managed to get a photo of her singing. Demi met up with us inside the hotel where a cake shaped like Taco Bell was sitting on the table, which didn't surprise me.

"Charlie, want to help me cut the cake?" Demi asked me as she stood next to the cake.

"Sure." I answered her and went to stand next to her.

Demi and I grabbed the knife to cut the cake at the same time. It was like we just got married. I silently laughed to myself. Everyone clapped when we cut the cake. Demi handed slices of cake out to everybody.

"Here you go, baby girl." Demi handed me a slice of cake after handing a piece out to everyone else.

"Do I have to?" I asked after looking at the calorie filled slice of cake.

"Yes, at least a little bit. Please?" Demi replied.

"Fine." I huffed. I followed Demi to where our family was sitting and sat down next to her.

As everyone was eating their cake, I pulled out my phone and decided to post the picture I took of Demi performing.

I captioned the photo, "Words can't even describe how proud I am of my older sister for her new album and documentary. I love you so much and I'm glad to have you as an older sister. I'm thankful God kept you with us. You never fail to let me know how much you love me and you always make time for me no matter what. No one can compare to you."

My whole family's phones went off as soon as I posted. It's good to know they have my post notifications on.

Demi commented on my post saying, "Aww 🥰 I love you, baby girl 💗"

"Charlie, eat." Demi sternly whispered to me after commenting on my post. I sighed as I angrily shoved a piece of cake into my mouth. I'll have to purge when we get back to the house.

—————————————————————

Demi and I finally made it back to the house after another hour of being there.

- TRIGGER WARNING -

I quickly took off my shoes and ran upstairs into my bathroom, hoping I'm still able to purge. I shut the door and knelt down in front of the toilet, sticking two fingers down my throat. I kept gagging but nothing was coming up.

I eventually gave up and screamed in frustration. I backed myself up against the wall as I began sobbing.

'You're getting fat.'

'Shut up!'

'Never. Not until you're skinny or better yet dead.'

I let out a choked sob as I stood up. I proceeded to open the medicine cabinet which held all the pills. I grabbed the strongest I could find. I shoved the pills in my mouth as soon as my bathroom door opened.

DEMI'S POV

Charlie rushed upstairs as soon as we got back, which I found suspicious, but I trusted her. I changed into sweatpants and a t-shirt. After changing, I heard my younger sister let out a scream. I ran into my room and saw her bathroom light was on and the door was shut. Well, shit.

"Shut up!" I heard her yell from inside.

"Charlie, are you okay?" I asked from the other side of the door. Obviously she's not. I mentally facepalmed myself. I heard her rummaging through something in there and I didn't trust that. I opened the door and as soon as I opened it, she shoved a handful of pills in her mouth.

"No, no, no!" I rushed over to her, taking the bottle out of her hand, and holding her in my embrace.

"Let me go!" Charlie screamed with a ton of pills in her mouth.

"Spit the pills out then I'll let you go!" I sounded slightly panicked. What was I supposed to do? "Please, I don't want to lose you! If you don't spit them out I'll send you to treatment!" I threatened as I held my hand below her mouth, prepared to catch all the pills.

Charlie whimpered as she finally spit the pills out into my hand. I sighed in relief as I threw them in the toilet and flushed the toilet.

"I-I'm sorry." Charlie stuttered, her breathing beginning to become uneven. I pulled her onto my lap and ran my fingers through her hair.

"I love you so much, baby girl. Why didn't you come talk to me?" I asked her once she managed to calm down some.

"I.. I didn't want to feel weak.. I didn't want you to know I'm not getting better.. it's too hard!" Charlie cried out. "I'm not so sure I'm worth recovery.."

"Hey, don't say that. Asking for help and talking about anything doesn't make you weak. You hear me? You are so worth recovery, baby girl. It hurts that you don't see that.." I replied, tears threatening to spill out of my eyes.

"I can't do it by myself.." She whispered.

"Who said you had to do it by yourself? I'm going to be here every step of the way." I reassured her.

"Promise?" Charlie asked, her voice cracking and holding out her pinky.

"I promise." I linked my pinky with hers.

"Can I sleep with you tonight?" Charlie asked me as I ended up carrying her out of the bathroom.

"There was no way in hell I was letting you sleep alone." I told her as I set her on my bed. Charlie climbed under my covers and I climbed in after her. She ended up cuddling with me as she fell asleep. "I love you so much, baby girl." I kissed the top of her head before falling asleep as well.
