Chapter 57 - Alastair's Castle (2)

Licht wandered around the castle, following the sound of the necromancer's footsteps. He seemed to be in no rush as he strolled like the castle was rightfully his. Draywein looked anxiously at the suspiciously calm boy, "Are you going to...spare him?"

Licht chuckled darkly, "I'm going flail him alive. Now, shut up if you don't want to be the victim of my venting."

Draywein makes a mouth-zipping motion with wide eyes. Licht rolled his eyes, but Draywein wouldn't underestimate his master, and he wouldn't put it past his master to vent his anger on him for every small thing. Tears fell in Draywein's heart, but Licht ignored his familiar's overreaction. It wasn't worth the time.

"We're wasting time." Licht looked at his surroundings briefly, "Detection Magic: [Area Scan]."

Licht could feel his mana spreading through the entirety of the castle. Licht frowned; he could feel Alastair's mana signature on an open space at the top of the tower. He could also feel some people at the top with him but taking a closer look, he couldn't sense their heartbeat.

Licht groans, "What a paaaaiin. Movement Magic: [Teleport]." Its trademark indigo magic circle unfolds beneath Licht and his familiar. Licht disappears and reappears nearby Alastair's cackling figure.

"Enjoying yourself, aren't you?" Licht calls out before preparing to bring out his weapon. "Weapon System Commence," A large bow materialises in Licht's hands, "The bow." Licht smiles. Not bad, and just perfect for a large number of targets.

Licht pulls the string back, and an arrow of mana materialises. Not only that, multiple mana arrows appear behind. With Licht's teaching, this is what is expected of Matt. Maybe even more, but that is a story for another time.

"Do you want to live, Alastair?" Licht stares coldly at the necromancer and the undead corpses that surround him. There was an already prepared magic circle on the ground, but Licht wouldn't give him a chance to prepare it.

Alastair narrowed his eyes at Licht and grinned grotesquely, "You think this is the end, Hershold?! You're severely underestimating me, kid."

"I don't know...Am I?" With that, he lets go of the bowstring, releasing his projectiles. Seeing the corpses, he walks up to them and beckons Draywein over.

"Do you have any knowledge of black magic or necromancy?" Draywein observed the magic circle that Licht pointed at. "I'm not very familiar, but I can recognise some runes. The one close to the middle is 'isule', which means carry, hold or store. It is only used when something delicate is on the line. The rune above it is 'acaer', directly translating to the word soul."

Licht looks at each individual rune, "What else?"

"Umm....there are also runes for time, movement and adapt. That's about as much as I can recognise."

Licht frown in thought; necromancy could sometimes be linked with souls. Since 'soul' and 'carry' were centred, his soul is probably still in the magic circle. A smirk slowly appeared on Licht's face; how interesting.

"You're still here, aren't you, Alastair?"

There wasn't a reply, but Licht didn't really expect an answer. "Then I guess no one would mind my dragon absorbing this mana." Licht nods towards Draywein. Earlier, Licht noticed that his familiar's expression towards the circle got more greedy as time passed. Similar to a pet dog begging for some meat.

Draywein looked back at his master and questioned with his eyes just for good measure. Licht snorts, "Go on."

Draywein bounds happily to the centre of the magic circle and begins absorbing the mana stored in the circle. Licht watches leisurely with a smirk; he had a few minutes to spare anyways.

Soon, "STOP! STOP!! I'M STILL HERE!!" Alastair's voice echoes from the circle, startling Draywein from his wits. He didn't think the necromancer would still be alive!! His master was right?!

At that moment, Draywein's view of Licht increased considerably.

Licht casually skimmed over his ears, "Continue, Draywein. I'm fine. I just thought I heard a lost ghost."

Although Licht approved of Draywein continuing, he still felt anxious, knowing a ghost was nearby.

"No! Wait! I'll submit to you; just don't let me die!"

"Oh?" Licht walks closer to the magic circle, and he could vaguely see the translucent figure of Alastair. Licht's smile widens further, and Draywein shivers. His master almost never smiled.

"What makes you think I would let you live after trying to poison my family?" Licht states this obvious fact. The necromancer's face falls, "N-no! I didn't- I mean...I-I did, but..." Alastair trails off as if hesitating to say something.

"Draywein-"

"WAIT! WAIT! Someone was helping me!" Licht raises his brow for him to continue, "After I found this castle, some necromancer in robes promised to make his apprentice, and after that, many materials came through a magic circle in the basement. I haven't met him since then..."

Licht's eyes narrow, and Alastair falters in his words, "T-the c-circle is...."

"When?"

"Pardon?" He blanks at Licht's words, but the boy's glare shakes him up again. "I-I b-believe it was t-two weeks ago s-since I last saw it. I-It usually comes every two days."

"Is that so..." He trailed as his interest ran thin. "Thank you! Now..." He slides his thumb across his neck, "We'll finish you off cleanly. Draywein, it's on you."

Draywein sobs internally, and at that moment, his opinion of Licht drops considerably.

As soon as he reappeared in the familiar room, Licht immediately walked into the bathroom. Although he hadn't come in direct contact with them, he felt that the air around him still faintly smelt of the undead.

Not long after Licht went into the bathroom, Matt appeared with wrinkled clothes and some scratches and bruises visible on his body. He looks at Licht's empty bed and sighs to himself. If only he were stronger, he wouldn't seem like such a fool in front of those people.

A few minutes pass as Matt thinks silently to himself. Licht comes out from the bathroom and witnesses Matt's downcast mood.

Licht rolls his eyes as he walks into his closet, "So you're not going to tend to your wounds?"

Matt falls out from whatever tragic trance he was under. He smiles bashfully, "I was actually hoping you would heal me."

"As if." Licht scoffs, making his way to his bed. "Just sleep it off, and you'll be fine."

Matt chuckles. "I thought as much." He mumbles quietly in a hoarse voice.
