Chapter 52 - Iris and Flav’s mission 7

Flav, Iris, and Joanna's mission wasn't confusing and extremely clear. They had to deliver a letter to Gley City's city lord and come back in the allocated time. This mission's only complication was the forest they had to traverse: The SIlent Sunny Forest.

Yet, after getting attacked by an inconceivably powerful beast, they had skipped the rest of the journey and somehow teleported to their destination.

"I know you are confused," the middle-aged city lord told Flav with a neutral face.

"I know all about your mission and how you came here. You didn't think Daemon would let you die to beings way above your power level, did you? He's not that kind of person," he said with a slight smile, his eyes flashed with a warm look as if reminiscing.

"Then, can you explain what happened?"

The man glanced at Iris and at her hand, "Sure. But let's get you treated first."

She nodded her head and followed the city lord who gestured forward with his hand. She didn't particularly care about such injuries. It was nothing new when she recalled the things she went through.

Flav had stopped staring blankly a while ago. His mind worked trying to understand what happened, and with some information the city lord provided he formulated some speculations. 'Then, what was the purpose of this mission?' he furrowed his brows.

Following the city lord and iris, Flav took one last glance at Joanna before catching up. They passed through the gate and entered a long hallway. On both sides of the hallway, pictures of men and women hung, emanating a powerful and heroic feeling.

The city lord saw Flav staring and smiled, "They are heroes and old friends…" he said with a powerful and mysterious tone.

Flav waited for him to say more but after a minute of no more words he gave up. The city lord obviously didn't want to open this subject.

"So, can you explain what happened from the beginning?" Iris icily asked after turning right at the end of the hallway.

Halting, the city lord turned back at iris and sighed. "You are an impatient one, young lady," he said with a grandfather-ly tone.

"No, I am not," she rebutted calmly. "I just don't like not having all the information at my disposal."

"Fine, let's go to my office first."

Iris stopped talking after that and followed the city lord silently.

A few minutes later, the three stopped. They had walked through another long hallway that led them to a section where many people moved. They continued straight while people ignored them, arriving at a large gate similar to the one they exited.

'Is this his home or city hall?' Flav wondered.

From what they had seen before, they were inside the city lord's Mansion, but right now, it's as if they entered a bustling area of work.

Entering the city lord's office, Flav and Iris calmly checked it and found no decorations. It just had all the necessary things an office needed. The only thing missing was the mountain of paperwork that should have piled.

"Well then," the city lord coughed after sitting behind his desk. "Do you want the long or short version?" he asked.

"Short." Flav hurriedly said.

"Alright, here's a summary. Daemon sent you to deliver a letter to me that he could have teleported to test some things regarding you that I have no clue what they are. As a safe measure, he engraved a Teleportation Array that would activate if you faced someone above your level. And the fact that you are here means that situation happened."

Iris nodded without much expression as if she expected the outcome. The short summary the city lord gave, reinforced the conclusion she had arrived at. Although some things were left out, like what kind of test Daemon gave and their result, other than that everything made sense to her.

Flav also understood everything and looked into the city lord's eyes. "Then, is that it? Are we done with our mission?" he asked.

The city lord's expression softened as if business just finished. "Pretty much, yes. You just need to teleport back to the academy," he said relaxing on his chair as if all the tension and seriousness he showed before was an act.

Iris appreciated such an atmosphere. The city lord separated between business and personal life. When work is done, he does what he wants, and when there is work, he puts his all into it. Such people were usually reliable people that people loved and followed.

"But," the city lord's tone turned firm, tensing the air again, "You need to wait for your friend to heal. Luckily, we have just the resources to do that, it just needs a few days." he said.

The two nodded. Thanks to them teleporting, they had a few days on their hands remaining. They could wait for Joanna to heal and check the city in the meantime.

"I will assign my son as your guide, he will be following you to the Academy anyway. You might get along," the city lord continued and as if he just remembered something important, he facepalmed.

"I forgot to introduce myself, didn't I? How careless of me," he got up from his chair and did a slight bow. It was so elegant and beautiful that the two only felt how noble he truly was at that moment. "My name is George Clayman. As you already know I am the city lord of this city," he said, opening his arms wide as if introducing the world.
