Chapter 31 - Easy Trials

"Countless dangers and life threatening situations?" Xuan Li clenched his fist in excitement repeating what the voice said. "Hey guys, what are you waiting for? Let's go!"

He immediately started moving after waving to them. The trio, already used to his shenanigans, followed quietly. Since Xuan Li is basically immortal and wants to die he could test the traps for them without guilt tripping them.

They went straight since there was no other path to take and caught up with Xuan Li. After walking for a couple of minutes they stopped, in front of them stood what seemed to be a goat and duck mixed breed. It had the legs and horns of a goat, with the rest of the body resembling a black duck.

"You shall not pass!" It slammed its four legs making the ground vibrate while saying a cliche line, "If you want to pass, there is only one way, one of you has to die!"

The trio exchanged glances before smirking, "Alright sure. One of us just has to die right?" Flav asked, crossing his arms.

"Yes? Ah yes, yes!" The duck was confused before reaffirming it's answer. It felt like something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint what it was.

"Li, it's your turn. Go for it!" Flav slapped Xuan Li's back laughing, making the duck even more confused.

"Hey! When did we get so close that you can call me informally like that?" Xuan Li complained but still stepped through waiting for the duck to try and liberate him, if it could that is.

"Stop!" The duck demanded, "I said stop! Do you want to die?!!" It became mad seeing Xuan Li disobey it.

"Yes! YES, I F*CKING DO!!" He screamed in frustration making the duck speechless. It was it's first time seeing any creature react that way.

"Then, I shall fulfill your wish," the duck shrugged seeing no point in talking and raised its front hooves slamming them down on Xuan Li who looked excited. "Die!"

BOOM!

The slam appeared stronger than the first time and made some cracks beneath it and with it sounds of bones breaking and organs rupturing sounded. Blood flowed and splattered all over the ducks legs making it scrunch its face.

"Ouch, that must have hurt," Flav laughed again and glanced at his two companions who didn't share his joke. "Tough crowd."

"Hey ducky," he called the duck, "Can we go now? Someone died as you said."

"Sure," the duck didn't deny the request since that's what it said the requirement was, even though it still felt weird with the whole situation.

While the trio walked fast past the duck, a blinding light spread from the place Xuan Li 'died' which made them move even faster.

"Damn it! I didn't die," Xuan Li, who was completely healed, stunning the duck, cursed as soon as he got up. He looked at the duck and swore, "You duck-goat monster, can't you kill someone correctly! Or at least do it painlessly!! I felt everything breaking back there."

The duck was too stunned to get angry or retort, although it was a smart beast, it was the first time something like this had happened which allowed Xuan Li to catch up with his teammates by the time its brain comprehended what happened, 'I must be going crazy or hallucinating.' That's the conclusion it reached.

"Did you see how that duck reacted back there?" Flav wiped a tear at a corner of his eyes while Dumdum laughed with him. Even Iris had a small smile, suppressing a laugh, even with the pain she still felt. Only Xuan Li had a scowl not happy with the situation, "Stupid weak duck, Can't even kill a person." He mumbled.

"Don't worry you will get your wish," Flav said before muttering under his breath, "Maybe?"

Xuan Li ignored him and took the lead again trying to find more traps or things to kill him. No one stopped as they enjoyed a smooth passing of the trial, Dumdum happily watched him suffer while Flav walked briskly with his hands cupped behind his head. As for Iris, she silently calculated how many ingredients she needed to reset the magic circles to pass the time.

Like that, Xuan Li and the others walked through the labyrinth for three days, an amusing situation where monsters said the same thing as the duck while they made Xuan Li deal with them repeated.Only after five days and 10 monsters doing the same thing did a change occur.

The labyrinth widened and walls moved making four entries in front of each of them. They quickly understood what to do next, but before anyone moved Xuan Li said something stopping them in their place.

"They didn't mention anything about us not going the same way nor about any penalties regarding that," his words shined light upon them. "They can't blame us for this now, can they?" Flav smirked before taking the lead.

Xuan Li strode forward and glared at him before taking the lead again. "Trying to stop me from dying!" He clenched his teeth in anger while mumbling nonsense that made the other shrug their shoulders.

"Hey Dumdum, what's the deal with him?" Flav asked with a low voice pointing at Li. "Why does he want to die that much?"

"Him?" Dumdum sneered, "I don't know. He said something about no point in living without his grandfather. He even wakes up with nightmares every day screaming. I don't know much but, he must have had a sad life."

Iris also concentrated and listened to what Dumdum said, for some reason her body still reacted to Xuan Li even though time over time evidence showed that he wasn't 'him'. And Dumdum's words etched the sword even deeper in stone, confirming her suspicion, 'Then why do those feelings still linger when I look at him? Is it because he looks so nearly identical to 'him'?'

She didn't know and decided to ignore the feelings like usual. Flav got curious about Xuan Li's life hearing what Dumdum said, he didn't like prying into others' business but Xuan Li and his actions kept peaking his curiosity. 'I will just ask Xuan Li if we ever got close enough,' he decided before going silent.

A week passed as they kept walking, they didn't know if this was punishment because they didn't go into the intended paths or the trial was just designed like that, but seeing no other choice but to walk they suppressed their annoyance and spared energy.

However, luckily for them, on the eight day of their march, they saw an exit. As the labyrinth had nothing but simple lanterns to illuminate the way, with the dark walls making everything else dim, they felt their eyes go dull from the darkness. Even with their Cultivation and Circle Rank, the light that appeared blinded them temporarily, before they dove towards it like their lives depended on it.
