Chapter 17 - Epilogue

FIVE YEARS LATER

I awoke to two sets of hands pressing themselves on my face. Peaking one eye open, I was greeted with the familiar grin of my nearly five-year-old son Greyson and his obsession with dragging his twin sister Loretta to wake me up at six in the morning.

"Good morning Mommy!" He screamed, making Alex groan in protest beside me.

"Shh," I hushed, "Daddy's sleeping."

Not anymore." Alex grumbled.

Go back to bed, I'll take care of them." I said, kissing him on the cheek before taking Greyson and Lottie by the hand.

"Are you hungry?" I asked after we had left the bedroom.

I watched as they both nodded and followed me into the kitchen so I could make them some cereal and myself a glass of tea.

"Mommy?" Lottie asked after taking a bite from her bowl, "Can we go to the sea?"

"Yes, we can go to the beach today." I said with a smile, "But Mommy needs to make some breakfast for herself first before we can go."

"Okay!" They both said happily as Alex came out of our bedroom.

"Good morning," He yawned, "I heard we were going to the beach."

"I told you, you can go back to sleep." I said, setting down my cup and wrapping my arms around him.

"It's okay. I need a day at the beach with my family." He replied with a smile. Smiling over at Lottie and Greyson who were unaware of our loving nature to each other, we make ourselves some cereal and I ruffle Lottie's red hair who immediately swats at my hand in protest.

"Mommy quit it!"

Sighing, I watch as Greyson tries to do the same to Alex who scoops him up in the air, making him giggle. And as we sat together eating breakfast, I wondered what my life would have been like if I hadn't met Alex Walsh. But I did know this, right now was where I belong: with my husband who loves me, with my children who I will love and protect, and the vast ocean of possibilities to believe in.
