Chapter 86 - Hunting Grade 4 Monsters

He spent around a few minutes, before he glimpsed of his next target.

It was a Grade 4 Venomous Black Bat. From its name alone, it was obvious that this monster was capable of flight.

But he himself could also fly in the air right now, so there were no disadvantage to him.

On the contrary, he had a slight advantage, because the Venomous Black Bat was mainly known for its ability to fly, which granted it an advantage amongst the weaker cultivators.

Yet, when it is given something, it also loses something. In order to adapt to flight, it had to be lighter in weight.

As compared to ground monsters, the Venomous Black Bat was slender and thin, with less stronger muscles, and a much weaker body.

This made it quite a vulnerable target for those Sky Realm cultivators and above, in comparison to the much sturdier monsters which roamed on the ground, which often have thick scales of fur covering its outer body as protection.

Towards this Venomous Black Bat, he did not waste much time, and quickly sent it a few sword rays flying its way.

His Shadow Sword and Soaring Sword skill was interchangeably used, and although the Venomous Black Bat had tried its best to fly away, it was still cut down after around 10 strikes.

[Host's understanding of [Soaring Sword] skill had increased from the Accomplished Stage to the Perfection Stage]

[Host's understanding of [Piercing Cloud Movement] skill has increased from the Perfection Stage to the Ultimate Perfection Stage]

His face rose up to reveal a delighted smile. Any breakthrough in his understanding in his combat skill were worth celebrating to.

And his form of celebration, was to show off its imposing might by killing of even more monsters.

He crouched down onto the dead bat, and the venomous substance that layered its skin was quickly dispersed of by his Elementary Qi.

If the Venomous Black Bat was still alive, its poison would still deal quite a bit of damage to him, which was why he did not engage in fist combat.

But now that the Venomous Black Bat was dead, and the poison had lost its life source, it was no longer lethal or dangerous.

[Host has detected a Mortal Tier 7 Talent. Host is absorbing…]

After he had absorbed its talent, he went on in search for even more monsters. His hand and sword were itching for a fight right now.

Within the Wailing Ghosts Hill, an occasional cry akin to the wailing of a ghost could be heard.

Naturally, the sound had been softened due to the dense amount of vegetation, but this was what made it seem like the soft wails of a ghost.

And the source of these wails, were obviously not from ghosts, but rather from the monsters that were cut down one by one by Long Chen's sword.

In the depths of a forest, an average looking man was currently battling against a ferocious looking monster.

It was more than 3 meters tall, and that man looked miniscule in front of it. Yet, that man did not display the slightest trace of weakness, as he threw fist after fist at the monster.

Thundering roars could be heard, produce from the monster, as it was struck back again and again but the constant flurry of fists that was unleashed at it.

Giving out an enraged growl, its hind legs pushed against the ground to build up momentum, and increase its charging strength. However, this was to no avail, as it was still kicked back a few meters under the strengthening impact of the man's fists.

And this man, was Long Chen, a Long Chen in disguise.

However, there was one thing that his disguise was unable to change, which were his eyes. His eyes that were burning with the passion and desires of a youth, and the deepness and maturity of an adult.

There was something in additional other than these, which was that slight blood red that flashed across his eyes as he glanced at the monster.

This was a strange mixture that would stump almost anyone, if they looked closely into his eyes.

The exchange of blows ended after a full 10 minutes, where a final blow was sent straight to the heart of the monster, instantly killing the weakened monster.

After being subjected to a numerous amounts of threatening punches that dealt heavy damages to its body, the monster could no longer sustain its defence, and left a wide open opening, which led to its eventual demise.

[Host has killed a Grade 4 Monster. Host gains 200 Qi]

[Host has detected a Mortal Tier 7 Talent. Host is absorbing…]

These past few days, he did not allocate his Talent Points to his Alchemy Talent, but rather his Cultivation Talent.

As for that 2 + 1 additional effect, he assigned that 1 to his Formation Talent.

This was because he realized that when he had broken through to the Human Tier for his Cultivation Talent, he had stirred up quite a bit of commotion.

It could be disregarded at that time since he was in a place where there weren't anyone around to see it.

But he was now in the forest, where powerful, ruthless monsters roamed free. If something unexpected happened which left him vulnerable, the consequences were unimaginable.

Thus, he prepared to break through the Human Tier for his Alchemy Talent within his courtyard in the Moonlight Sect, or a more remote place instead.

And there was that one thing about the System, which was that it didn't differentiate between the Stages between each Grade of a Monster.

For example, there were two monsters, one was at the Early-Stages Grade 4, while the other was at the Peak-Stages Grade 4.

One was comparable to the Early-Stage Sky Realm, while the other was comparable to the Peak-Stage Sky Realm.

This made a whole lot of a difference.

Imagine a 1st Realm Sky Realm cultivator fighting against a 9th Realm Sky Realm cultivator. The result was obvious.

However, no matter whether if he had killed an Early-Stage Grade 4 Monster, or a Peak-Stage Grade 4 Monster, he will still receive the same amount of Qi energy.

So it was more efficient for him to hunt down lower Stage Monsters within the same Grade, rather than higher Stage ones.

But this brought him with another problem, which was that once he had reached a level where the lower Stage Monsters could no longer provide any challenge to him, and he could no longer earn any combat experience nor proficiency in his combat skills because his opponent was far too weak, what should he do?

Cultivate. He was just going to cultivate.

After all, at this current moment, the process of cultivation beats the process of raising his Qi quantity through killing monsters.

The only thing was that hunting down monsters was able to allow him to enhance and sharpen his combat prowess, along with consolidating his cultivation base, which normal cultivation was unable to do.

No matter what though, both cultivation and hunting down monsters were highly beneficial to him, as compared to other cultivators who weren't able to gain Qi energy through killing monsters like he could.

Long Chen lifted his eyes from the dead monster below him. Drips of blood were slowly falling from his two fists, and his black robes were now torn and tattered, stained with the various blood of the monsters he had personally killed.

In his bag was more than 20 Grade 4 Monster corpses. This 20 Grade 4 Monsters corresponded to 4000 Qi energy, bringing him one step closer towards the 3rd Sky Realm.

He raised his head up to the brightening sky. Judging by the movements of the sun, around 3 days had passed since he had come here.

It should be about one or two days before that Monthly Combat Competition between the Chosens approaches.

He had a bit of time to raise his cultivation and break through to the 3rd Sky Realm, and the fastest way to do that, was to return to the Sect and enjoy that dense Qi energy within the Qi Gathering Array.
