Chapter 11 - 11

When I finally arrived at the location, there were already hundreds of players grouping up and hunting goblins. There is no way I can squeeze in here when the ratio of goblins to players is 1:3. I cannot risk disturbing or stealing their prey and create some enemies on the way.

My only choice was to walk around to see if any goblins were not surrounded by players. It took long but there was a spot kilometre away from the crowd where goblins are roaming around without being surrounded by dozen players or so.

There were some players, but at least the goblin count is much more than players. One problem though.

[Lv. 4 Goblin]

The patrolling goblins are twice the levels compared to the goblins a while ago.

I took the time and observed a few parties dealing with these goblins and noticed that they have better equipment and better team coordination.

It would be difficult to hunt these goblins alone with my level, but I got no choice but to try. I do not want to form or join any party at the moment. Besides, I want to try some little things before joining Aria's party.

To begin with, I picked a goblin who is alone and far away from the clashes as my first target. Looking around for the safest angle to shoot, I then positioned myself on top of a boulder that would be difficult to reach for the short stature goblins.

After ensuring my aim is right, I fired my first shots in New World.

Arrow after arrow and damage numbers keeps showing up above the goblin. It took seven arrows to hit before the goblin starts running at me.

There was no health bar to indicate how much hp I took from it, so I can only roughly estimate how long this fight will last. The only indication of damage dealt would be the behaviour of the monster or the visible wounds dealt with by the players.

This level 3 goblin still looks very healthy, so I keep on shooting and shooting until he reached the place where I am standing at. It was easy work from here. No other goblin was aggroed by my attacks as expected and goblins are not that smart to find a way to climb up here.

My strategy is working with this specific goblin because it was armed with only a dagger. Goblins in the area have different weapons in hand. Some have swords and spears while others are carrying rotten looking crossbows.

The rock I am currently standing at is barely unreachable for dagger length blades. Any other weapons and I would need to run away.

I kept on shooting until the goblin was bathed in its own blood. This time with a closer target, I focused on the weak points such as the eyes to deal more damage. After five minutes of continuous shooting, it finally fell and disintegrated into the air after leaving a single material behind.

[Goblin Ears Acquired]

I dropped down and checked the loot it left behind. It was an unpleasant looking ear that has no value no matter what angle you look at it although I still picked it up in case I can sell it for at least 1 gold.

It took five minutes to kill one level 3 goblin and I have nine more left to go. The number of arrows given to me with the bow was enough to finish at least fifteen more. Unless something else happens, I do not need to return to the city.

...

When I shot down the 4th goblin, the sound that every player wants to hear rang in my head.

I distributed my points to agility and dexterity to accommodate with my type of fighting. I am planning to prioritize my dexterity because it supposed to help in handling weapons better.

For bows, not only does it improve my control over it, but it also improves the speed of loading an arrow. Dexterity is a helpful attribute for a longbow who takes time aiming in the right direction and loading arrows.

Next in my priority list is agility. It is standard for an archer playstyle like me to have high agility. This is common sense in many RPG games such as this to have agility as the main stat for many range users. If dexterity is how well I handle my weapon, agility is all about the ability to control my body.

I might prioritize stamina and strength later on but for the meantime, I will go with these two for better adapting.

Now to the next target and the next. I kept doing the same thing over and over again until I saw something strange going on.

On to my last goblin when suddenly the goblins in my area began to act erratically. Looking over the gigantic silhouette coming from far away, it seems like the cause of their sudden change of behaviour was the entrance of a monster three times the size of a normal goblin.

"Ohoho~ It finally appeared... Everyone, prepare! Eat to refill all your health. We need to kill this Chief Goblin before others can steal it."

The leader of one of the larger parties in this hunting area shouted to his party members while those who were not included in his group starts to leave the scene one by one.

From their actions, it seems this particular party has some power and status to have the road open for them. I kept that in mind and went far away from the epicentre of the upcoming fight but close to be able to observe the hunt.

I found a perfect place to camped while having a good view of the whole field. I made sure that I was not visible to either the Chief Goblin or the party.

"All tanks, go in front and when one of our tanks have the aggro. All damage dealers start attacking!"

It was a simple yet effective way of starting the fight. Clearly, some experience went into the orders of whoever is their leader. Their coordination was somewhat convincing, but victory is not sure since it would be my first time to see a fight against a boss.
