Chapter 16 - Do not tempt fate

The buffet was packed, the break would end in an hour and a half, and they had to pack their lunches and snacks. The reason for a morning break was for wand testing. Daily before embarking on a story, all fairies had to present their wands to the Wand Verification and Administration area; where they were analyzed and calibrated to detect irregularities thus avoiding all kinds of disasters.

If there were a wand that did not meet the requirements, it would be discharged and it would be left to the choice of its owner to send it for repair and maintenance in one of the titanic triads. The problem itself was not the verification, which in itself the vast majority passed correctly, but rather that the wands began to show flaws within the stories almost at the end and not before.

The concern was increasing day by day and in order to provide a temporary solution, it was decided to give more priority to security to those wands and fairies whose stories were about to end. Directors must give their approval before delivery. Examining the result of the verification they will be able to give a final verdict: Whether or not to go out to fulfill their duties.

The directors were the only ones who did not pass verification since they were not going to work within the stories, unless they noticed some abnormality in their wands. Leen and Ross were in this situation, but with the big difference that their names appeared on two lists of the payroll of employees: Directors and Group Leaders. Rocket had obtained fake fragments for both of them from the black market, which could pass for real if and only if there was no general audit or in-depth analysis, which was happening more frequently, unfortunately for them. They should have surrendered their wands but heaven favored them and they were saved using their Director titles.

They had to hurry in their recess since they had the last word to leave for the stories. The other directors had already left their verdict and returned to their offices. They sat down to eat and wait for the call from the verification chief over the loudspeaker, while they chatted in their minds about other matters.

[So is that why your sister looks at me badly? Nor that I was doing something wrong, you came of your own free will]

[Tell that to her, she has always been very overprotective. She once smashed the face of an Agnes stalker with a chair and in another she beat herself up with Susan's friends for wetting me with a hose. Hahaha it was a lot of fun .... anyway, don't go near her because she could hurt you, she is capable of anything to destroy her enemy] -Leen got serious all of a sudden

[I'm not afraid of her, instead she should be afraid of me. I just destroyed a horde of gnomes that was heading to the kingdom, I faced a Leviathan and a dragon ... wait with two dragons because Bradley counts as a reptile as well, although a very useless one] - Ross made fun of his new secretary

[If you are an asshole, Bradley is not .... let's leave it at that, if he is a useless asshole] -she finished eating her sandwich

Everyone looked at the seated couple and made faces of joy, anger and surprise, accompanied by gestures. By all accounts they seemed to be talking but did not utter a word and did not stop eating. Sonia studied her opponent who every so often turned to look at her table and that she smiled when she saw her. The feeling that she was being teased was very obvious and she was only hoping to enter the story to take care of Ross.

They called over the loudspeaker and had to leave. For the others it was the indicative that in an hour they would go out to their respective stories.

They reached the sixth floor and visualized countless wands of all shapes, colors, and sizes waiting to be dispatched to each designated area. They were in the form of brooches, watches, knives, mittens, earrings, rings, bows, and more. For a fairy, the way to carry a wand was amazing since he could camouflage it in any way he wanted, except for Leen. She kept the old traditional way and while it was an honorable custom for the old school to wear that way, for the new generation it was outdated and out of date.

Joseph Cablin was the chief director of the verification area. He introduced himself and gave them the final test results and reports. At first glance everything seemed in order and with that, they signed the delivery ok. They watched for a moment and Ross started chatting with Joseph. Leena from her side, glared at the wand boxes. She walked between the boxes as the employees arranged them. Ross, noticing her anger, went to her, took her by the shoulder and urged her to return to the office. Suddenly, Leen's aura came off to start insulting and threatening the wands.

- Damn useless, you better not fail today, otherwise I will take away your freedom like last time. I will not let them give me more work than the one I already have in this world-

Ross pushed her out of the trance. As if nothing had happened, she turned and headed for the exit. Ross was also angry, his eyes were shining and he began to emit a denser aura than Leen's to threaten them.

-Don't think that we will let it pass, if you wish to remain in this world it will be better if you let us know if there is a sighting. But if you guys run away like cowards again, we'll see to lock you up in the rings again. Was it clear to you? -

Leen called out Ross's name, and Ross, too, snapped out of his trance. Surprised by what happened, he headed for the exit scratching the back of his neck. He turned to look around and dismissed the feeling that he had it wrong this morning.

When they were walking down the corridor they come across a group of foreigners who were doing a tour, they look at each other and they pass by. For some reason they did not understand, the rabbit man and the dragon that accompanied him froze in front of the door of the verification area. An ominous feeling suddenly arose and they urgently entered the room. The staff had also been shocked for a moment but the next moment everything returned to normal as if nothing had happened.

What they felt was nothing short of a stellar resonance. The fragments were communicating with each other to resonate together in an atrocious way. There were only two types of resonance known to experts, the recurring ones that were emanated when a star was born or the fragments were joined and the rare ones, which were the announcement of the death of a star. The resonance that was presented was none of the above, on the contrary, it showed great fear and obedience towards something superior on the part of the fragments. The new sensation that showed and disappeared instantly put them on alert. The only person who kept looking at the elevator where Leen and Ross had gone up was Arthur who prayed that his sister would follow his advice and not make the mistake of waking up a sleeping beast.

At the same time throughout the building, those who kept their wands felt their wands vibrate and then stop abruptly. Pryor ran off to the verification room to ask for explanations, incredulous of what he had witnessed. She was no longer sure of the possibility of a catastrophe not happening despite having doubled down on security and support groups.

The other foreigners who arrived a few days ago, noticed the resonance and as if it were a terrible joke, their offices abroad had presented the same situation globally and informed them that their systems found the epicenter in Johannesburg. Now the investigation turned to find the reason for the resonance and its relationship with the anomaly that afflicted them.

Meanwhile, the groups were preparing to leave for their respective works. Leen and Ross had already taken their belongings and were awaiting the delivery of wands and the subsequent opening of the doors.
