Chapter 2 - Chapter 02

Hayate's POV

"You... Like Masaru?" I asked Koizumi, who was sitting down on the floor, leaning on the wall. He looked like he was writing something on his notebook.

He stared at me, a terrified look on his face. He frantically tried to stand up, but he fell back down. At the same time, the secret that I had in my hand started to vanish.

He tried to cover his face with his arm. "Who t-told y-you?!" He asked with a shaky voice.

"So it's true." I said as I walked up to him. I knelt down and grabbed his arm, moving it away from his face, revealing his blushing face. He was trembling. He looked like he really didn't know what to do. I groaned and scratched the back of my head. "I won't tell anyone if that's what you're worried about." I said as I let go of his arm. "No matter how much I hate you, I won't stoop that low."

"T-Then what are you gonna do with it??"

"...Nothing." I said as I stood up. "I won't do anything. My mouth just slipped. I could care less who you like. As long as I'm not affected by whatever you're gonna do."

"But... How did you know about it?"

I sighed and sat down next to him. "Alright." I said. "I'll tell you, but you have to promise me not to tell anyone either."

He nodded his head, and I began to tell him about the powers that I have. He probably won't believe me, but if I tell him this, then he'd think I was crazy and he'd leave me alone forever. It's the perfect excuse.

I finished telling him, and then suddenly, he chuckled. "You're joking, right?" He asked.

I didn't know he could smile like that. To be honest, he looks better if he smiles.

"Sadly, I'm not joking." I replied. "I'm an honest man, but if you don't believe, then that's your problem. Now that you have one of my secrets too, we're even. To be honest, I didn't expect a guy to be the owner of that secret. I was so surprised that it just slipped from my mouth."

"It isn't really normal for a guy to like another guy. I'm sorry." He apologized as he put his head down.

I lifted his chin up and flicked his forehead. "Why are you apologizing, idiot?" I asked as he backed away and covered his forehead, a flustered expression on his face. "There's nothing wrong with that. It's weird, but it's not something I'm gonna give you crap for."

"Oh, there you are." I could hear Masaru as he peeked from around the corner. "I've been looking for you."

I stood up. "You were taking too long, so I was looking for you too."

He laughed. "Sorry. I got held up by some teachers." He peeked behind me. "Oh, vice prez! You haven't gone home yet?" He asked as he walked up to Koizumi.

Koizumi started to blush the nearer Masaru walked up to him. He was way too obvious with his feelings that it's annoying, but Masaru's an idiot. He won't notice stuff like that until you tell him directly.

"Masaru, let's go home." I called him.

"Oh, sorry." He replied.

I looked at Koizumi. "You gonna walk home with us?" I asked.

He and Masaru both had shocked expressions on their faces. Koizumi held onto his shirt and shook his head.

I walked up to him. "You don't wanna walk home with the guy you like?" I whispered. "My house is just near here, so I'm gonna leave you both alone immediately."

He hesitantly nodded his head and we started to walk back to the student council room. Masaru was walking in front of us, while Koizumi and I were lagging behind.

He tugged on my shirt. "W-Why are you doing this?" He asked with a nervous voice.

"What? You don't want it?" I replied.

"D-Don't you hate me?"

"I do, but now that I know your secret, I can't just act like I don't know anything. Plus, I'm not gonna do this for free."

"I d-don't have money."

"Idiot, I don't want money. I want you to leave my shit alone. I'm tired of Minami-san cackling in my ear everytime you do my work. As long as you leave them alone, I'm willing to help you get together with Masaru."

"B-But Mochizuki-san is popular. I d-don't think he'd like me back. Not to mention I'm also a guy."

"I keep forgetting you're a guy. Hmmm. Maybe if you..." I used my hand brushed his bangs up, revealing his eyes. His eyes had a soft sea green color to them. It was beautiful. "Maybe if you cut your hair, you might have a chance. Right now, you look like a loner, and I doubt that's Masaru's type."

His face flushed red and he pushed me back. "D-Don't do that" He exclaimed as he put his bangs back in place.

"Hey, are you guys fighting?" Masaru asked as he turned around.

"N-No!" Koizumi replied. "W-We were just playing around."

Suddenly, Masaru walked up to Koizumi. He brushed a little of his bangs away from Koizumi's eyes and smiled. "Don't cover your eyes." He said. "You look better this way."

Koizumi started to blush again, and it just really pisses me off how obvious he is. If he wants to hide it so much, then he should know how to act normal.

"Mochi!" Our teacher, Kazusa-sensei, called Masaru from the student council room. Kazusa-sensei is the youngest teacher in our school. Because of this, a lot of students treat him more like a friend than a teacher. They call him Kazu-sen a lot, and he aboslutely hates it.

"I'm going on ahead." Masaru said. "I'll get your bag too, Hayate. Just wait for me here."

As Masaru ran to Kazusa-sensei, I snuck up behind Koizumi, who was staring at him.

"So when I do it, you push me back, but when Masaru does it, you blush like an idiot." I said as I put my around his shoulder. "And here I am, graciously offering my help, yet you treat me so unfairly. How unjust."

"I n-never said you can touch my hair." He said as he moved away from me.

"What do you even like about Masaru anyway? I mean, besides his face."

"W-Why should I tell you?"

"I guess you don't really have a reason. Then whatever. It's not like I care."

"Then d-don't ask in the first place."

"Hey, sorry I took too long." Masaru said as he jogged towards us. "Kazu-sen just wanted to ask me some stuff. Let's go home."

When we reached the intersection that was near my house, I split off from them. Normally, Masaru would walk with me to my house, and he was about to, but I stopped him. I told him it would be weird if he just left Koizumi alone, especially since his house was still farther away from mine.

I said that, but that's just an excuse to get the two to spend some time together. I did my end of the deal. As long as Koizumi does his end of the deal too, then I won't have to deal with Minami-san anymore.

The next day, the weather was the complete opposite as the day before. It was freezing. It was drizzling, and the wind was a little strong, which made going to school such a hellish task. I can't even count how many secrets hit me. I didn't look at the secrets anymore, and I didn't even try to give them back. If I get hit by secrets on the streets, there's no way in hell I'm gonna look for the owners. I have no idea where they even came from.

I entered the classroom. "Good morning." I greeted everyone as I walked to my seat. By my seat were Aoi, Masahiko, and Masaru, talking. "Hey, good morning." I said.

They greeted me back. "Hey, listen to this." Aoi said with an excited voice. 'Macchi's texting that loner from the student council."

"Don't call him that." Masaru replied as he messed Aoi's hair up. "Hayate was talking to him yesterday too."

Aoi grabbed Masaru's arm to stop him from messing his hair up even further. "Is that true, Hacchi? Didn't you hate him?"

"It kinda just happened." I replied as I placed my bag down. "Anyway, the two of you exchanged numbers?"

"Yeah." Masaru replied as he chuckled. 'You should've seen the look on his face yesterday. He was so awkward, but he wasn't as bad as I was expecting."

Wow. I guess I don't really need to help. It looks like things are already going smoothly for them.

"Mochi!" One of our classmates called Masaru. "Someone's looking for you."

We looked over to the door and saw Koizmu standing outside.

"I'll be back." Masaru said as he rummaged through his things and went to Koizumi.

"Those two are an unexpected combination." Masahiko commented. "I'm gonna head back. I gotta study a bit before our quiz."

"Bye, Masacchi!" Aoi exclaimed as he flapped the long sleeves of his sweater. "So, Hacchi, are you close to that loner?

"Me? Of course not." I replied. "I told you, it just happened. I wouldn't have talked to him if I didn't have to."

"Yeah. You two don't look like you'd get along anyway." He laughed. "Especially since you've been telling us how much you hate him for weeks now."

I groaned and slouched down on my desk. "Don't even remind me." I looked over to Masaru and Koizumi. The two of them talking and laughing. Koizumi was smiling too, but his smile today was brighter than yesterday. "They look they're having fun." I mumbled as I looked away.

The bell for lunch rang. Aoi immediately sprung on me and convinced me to go to the cafeteria with him and Masahiko. Masaru said he was gonna stay behind to copy some of the notes he forgot to do, so we went on ahead without him.

While walking there, I noticed Minami-san carrying some boxes, and she looked like she was having trouble with them.

"Hey, you guys go on ahead." I told Aoi as I patted his shoulder and ran towards Minami-san. I took the boxes from her. "Where do you need to put these?" I asked.

"H-Hey!" She exclaimed as she tried to take them back, but I kept it out of her reach. "I didn't ask for your help!"

"Anybody could've seen you were having trouble. So, where do you need to put these?"

She pouted and lightly punched me on the arm. "The chemistry lab." She replied. "Just so you know, I don't owe you for this."

"Yeah, yeah. I don't care. Hurry up before I leave you."

I placed the boxes down when we got to the chemistry lab. The lab itself hasn't been used for a long time. It's just been collecting dust, so I wonder why the teacher wanted to put these boxes here.

"I'm gonna go now." I said as I walked towards the door.

"H-Hey, wait!" Minami-san exclaimed as she grabbed onto my arm. She felt inside her pocket and placed something in my hand. It was a piece of candy.

"So cheap." I commented as she let me go. "At least treat me to a drink."

"I told you I wasn't gonna owe you, so that's all you're gonna get."

"Whatever." I said as I waved my hand and started heading towards the cafeteria.

When I got there, I noticed Koizumi sitting alone as he ate his lunch. I sat down in front of him and took a piece of his chicken.

He looked at me, and immediately looked away. "W-What do you w-want?" He asked.

"Aren't you gonna thank me for yesterday?" I replied as I rested my head on the table. "I heard that you and Masaru have been texting. I didn't know you moved that quick."

"S-Shut up! He w-was the one that asked for m-my number."

"Oh, he was?? That was unexpected."

"Hacchi, what are you doing here?" I could suddenly hear Aoi's voice ask from behind me. I turned around and saw him and Masahiko. "Oh, you're with the loner."

I looked back at Koizumi and I could see that he was uncomfortable. I stood up and started to push Aoi and Masahiko away. "It's nothing." I replied. "See ya, Koizumi." I said as I waved my hand without looking back and walked away.
