If the Palace of Versailles was an indescribable splendour, from the inside, its exteriors were no less magnificent. The sound of footsteps in the gravel, the sounds of birds, the rustling of leaves; everything was soothing in this tamed nature. Everything was perfectly well cut, well asymmetrical and harmonious. The Grand Master Louis, their guide in the gardens, began by introducing them to the orangery while boasting that no fruit shrub had known frost. He then took them to the different flowerbeds, explaining with such pride that no one dared interrupt him in his speech. Not even Foud who, against all expectations, was particularly attentive and nodded from time to time.
