Chapter 2 - Encounters

Zero's POV

Let me tell you something funny that happened this morning.

So basically my elder brother Blizzard, bust in the door this morning. I woke up reluctantly to this, as I am a very light sleeper, but Eden could sleep through a nuclear bomb. So this morning I woke up groggily, and with my eyes barely opened, Blizzard's face in mine, as he yelled, "HEY BABY BRO!"

I rolled my eyes as I stood up. "Ugh really Blizz? I thought you knew the spare key was under the mossbed!"

He laughed. "I did know. I just thought breaking down the door was more fun!"

I aggravatedly sighed. "Now it's going to be cold in here til I fix it!" I got louder. "WE LIVE IN THE TAIGA GOD DAMMIT!"

Blizzard looked like he screwed up bad. "Hey hey Zero chill out! I'll try to fix it. Okay?" He nervously laughed.

"Alright fine. Lemme wake up Eden." I muttered as I walked over to Eden's room. The room was a decent size, definitely bigger than mine though. I like small things.

As I sauntered into his room, I instantly knew I wasn't gonna be able to wake him up this morning. Let me think... The only person that he's scared of is Orion, the hunt leader. I hatched a plan.

Orion's POV

God dammit, who's knocking this early? I rubbed my eyes as I sat up. I sighed aggravatedly as I walked to the front door. "Who the hell are you and what do you- Oh. It's you. What do you want?" I squinted my eyes. I couldn't do this this morning.

"Sorry for waking you Orion. I was wondering if you could wake Eden?" He said, squirming a bit.

"Wait. YOU woke ME up to wake EDEN up!?" I was now tired and angry. Not a good combination.

This interaction ended up with being dragged to Zero and Eden's den. I didn't even look presentable, my fur has ruffled and my face was scowling. Let's just say, you did not want to see me this morning. So basically I just screamed at Eden, and he woke up. Wasn't that hard. After that, I basically just left. I wasn't in the mood, and I had things to do. I didn't have the most clean job in the pack. I had to dissect portions for the pack, I had to lead the Hunts, I had to kill most everything in the hunt, let's just say there was a lot of stuff to do. As soon as I got to the alphas Den for assignments for today, I ran into one of my best friends. Baki stood in front of me. "Where are you going Ori?" She tilted her head.

"Alpha's den." I said. She should know this by now.

"Ohhh right. I'm stupid. Sorry for being in your way!" She ran off.

I shook my head and laughed slightly. I continued my way over there. It was cold this morning and the sun wasn't out. It was a dreary and bleak day, even the trees looked depressing. I finally made it to the den. Inside, I saw the one and only auburn coloured wolf alpha, Reed. He side-looked me. "Ah, good morning Orion. Thalia has your assignments for today." Thalia? Why her?

"Why with Thalia?"

"She insisted. I don't know why Orion." He sighed.

"Alright fine. Do you where she is?"

"Her cabana. Near the lake."

I nodded. "Okay. I'll be off."

I made my way over to the lake. Thalia's cabana was comfortably sat next to the ashy blue body of water. I trotted toward the cabana and pushed the door flap open.

"Thalia?"

"Hmm?" She turned to me.

"Reed said my daily assignments for the hunters are with you?"

Thalia looked nervous. "Well about that..."

"Oh Anubis. What did you do?"

"Welllll I may or may not have dropped the papers in the lake."

"Really Thalia!?"

"Just go ask Reed for more instructions I guess."

"Ugh okay. See ya later Thalia."

I opened the door flap once more to exit her cabana. I had to go back to Reed's den again. Hopefully Reed had extras.

~Some time later~

Okay so apparently Reed didn't have extras. Also he didn't even know what the tasks were for today, as Mint wrote them. So I took this problem into my own paws. Therefore I just made the plans up myself. We were going to hunt twice today because tomorrow was going to be colder than today. I gathered Sierra, Zero, Eden, Kassie, and Baki for this hunt. In the group that I had gathered I explained to them what we were doing today.

"Alright. Today we have Zero, Sierra, Eden, Baki, and Kassie. Okay. You wolves know the drill. Stay with me unless told to disperse, Baki and Kassie, please, please don't argue this time. As you may know, the herds of caribou and moose are seemingly moving farther out. Therefore, we are going farther than normal. We are going past the forest border." I finished my talk. Baki and the rest nodded or hummed in acknowledgement. I pointed my snout to the exit of the forest and started to walk. Baki was right behind me, and the others were in a small circle.

Once we reached forest lines, I saw the tail of another wolf run toward the mountains. I looked at Baki, who was right beside me, we could communicate by only looking at eachother.

'did you see that?'

She nodded.

'let's follow.'

She nodded once more.

I had to whisper-talk. "Let's follow that wolf."

The rest nodded and agreed except for Kassie.

She scoffed. "Its only a wolf. Why do we need to follow it?"

"Kassie, last time I checked, I am your leader right now. Let's go wolves."

I ran with the other five wolves towards the Albino Mountains. I think they were called that because of how much snow is on them year-round. We found this cave in the side of the mountains. Inside we found two wolves; an juvenile and a pup. The adolescent one turned around and yelped. I understand that reaction, seeing six large wolves at your door isn't something you see everyday.

"W-Who are you?" The wolf was scared, I could tell.

"I am Orion of the Moon Pack. Do you live here?"

"Um, I'm Yuko. I'm a l-lone wolf and yes." He was still scared.

"Is that your pup?"

"Heavens no. This is a pup I found while looking for food three months ago. I named her Dakota." Yuko gained a bit of confidence.

"Oh well, it does seem like you and her are fed adequately. So, would you like to join our pack? We wouldn't mind another member." I replied. Kassie gaped at me.

His eyes sparkled. "Really? Thank you!" Yuko smiled.

"No problem. Just follow us. Oh and wake the little one too." I had no problem with a pup coming with us. I lost all my pups and my mate to a hurricane. It wasn't too long ago. My mate was Arlaka. My 3 pups were Vivi, Midnight, and Kiko. That day is still in my nightmares. Midnight was the calm and logical one, Vivi was loyal and sweet, and Kiko was...well..Kiko. Midnight was all black with chocolate brown eyes, Vivi was red brown with brown eyes, and Kiko was gray with green eyes. I miss them...

"Oi Orion! You're spacing out!" Baki was in front of me.

"What?" I spaced out. That was new.

"Let's go back home! Its getting cold and dark!" Baki shivered.

"Okay okay! C'mon Yuko and Dakota."

~Some time later~

We eventually reached the forest. Dakota was sleeping on Yuko's back. Halo was standing by the entrance.

Halo turned around to face us. "Oh hey Orion. Who's this?" She points to Yuko.

Yuko perked up. "I'm Yuko and this is Dakota."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Halo." She looked back at me. "Is this guy joining our pack or something?"

I nodded. "Exactly." I turned to my group. "Baki, Zero, you two show Yuko to the alpha. The rest of you can go back to your dens."
