Chapter 3 - Origins

Days continued to pass and there was now present a large house fitted with two beds and one double bed.

Zhangsun Shan and Qiu Si as they were married decided to sleep together, with both Wenren Yu and Sui Wenyan sleeping by themselves.

It was also during this time that they worked together that they decided to speak about themselves.

---

When Zhangsun Shan was young, to young to remember, his village was attacked by wild beasts. Thankfully, the Imperial Army arrived in time to save him a few others, but not his parents or any of his relatives.

Perhaps, it was the Will of the Heavens, or just luck, but, one of the military officers who had arrived took pity on Zhangsun Shan and took him as his own son. Later growing up, he entered into military school and became one of the greatest warriors in the armies.

One day, he was given an order in order to attack an entire army as a distraction, spelling suicide for his own forces. Despite this, he still fought and even turned what was meant to be a distraction to a victory.

Expecting congratulations and a victory ceremony for both him and his soldiers, he returned to find most of the credit given instead to the Emperor's son-in-law who simply held the negotiations of surrender after Zhangsun Shan had defeated the enemy army.

In response, Zhangsun Shan led a rebellion against the Imperial Court. He experienced some victories due to his experience with guerilla tactics and the extreme loyalty of his men, but, ultimately fell due to the ever numerous armies of the Empire.

His own men, however, unwilling to let him die, took him away, and he found himself close to Taiyi Sect, where Elder Mei later picked him up and offered him the choice to join.

Seeing the choice, he saw it as the Will of the Heavens, his destiny was not as a general of mortal armies or an Emperor of those under the Heavens, but rather as an Immortal to reach the Heavens themselves.

---

Qiu Si was born into a scholarly family and thus was able to learn much, unfortunately while women were now allowed to enter the Imperial Examinations, some of the Examiners had changed her test scores and blocked her from joining.

Though, she did not care to much. Her wish was to live an adventurous life, without restrictions, and so it was decided that she decided to join one of the Taiyi Sect's branches, the Sanyang School. At the Sanyang School, she managed to cultivate faster than most, at the current moment, she was the closest to reaching Qi Shaping.

It was also when the Sanyang School sent some resources to the Taiyi Sect that she met Zhangsun Shan who was receiving the resources.

Eventually, they decided to spend more time together, and she eventually left the Sanyang School and decided to join the Taiyi Sect. As the Sanyang School was a branch, it was a simple matter.

As they spent the next two years together, they eventually became married, and planned on continuing their journey together.

---

Wenren Yu grew up an orphan, and was picked up by a travelling doctor. The doctor travelled for reasons he never said, but, clearly did so as to help others.

It was through this that he travelled much of the Central Plains, both with the doctor and by himself. Through his travels he heard much of the Central Plains, such as the Tenth Prince disappearing and the Left Minister being exiled.

Eventually, he decided to settle down, as he was unable to join any of the major sects, he decided to join the Taiyi Sect.

There he only increased his medical expertise, learning how to grow and plant herbs as well as use them appropriately.

---

Sui Wenyan grew up as an orphan leading a life by herself for most of her youth, as she was reaching her teen years, she was adopted by an acting troupe, becoming an actress as she grew up.

Eventually, she decided to leave the acting troupe and decided to join the Taiyi Sect.

Being outstandingly beautiful, artistically gifted and intelligent, she was able to reach heights in both the social and cultivation centre of the outer disciples of the Taiyi Sect.

---

"Brother Zhangsun, you said you used to serve under the Tenth Prince, do you know why he disappeared?" Wenren Yu asked, thinking that Zhangsun Shan might know why due to his past military experience.

"The Tenth Prince?" Zhangsun Shan recalled him, he had only see him once, the Tenth Prince disappeared months before Zhangsun Shan led his failed rebellion.

He knew the Tenth Prince because like most princes of the Imperial Dynasty, they chose to enter the army. Some became generals while in the army, others simply became advisors, the former for those wanting to have military experience and the latter for those either smart or to afraid of war.

They fought with each other against invaders, but only talked in the meeting before the fight. After which he never saw him again.

"I can't say I do." Zhangsun Shan replied, wondering what did happened to the Tenth Prince.

"Let's talk about something else," Qiu Si said as she had her own matter to bring up, "As it is right now, Shan, me and you are the closest to breaking through."

There was a pause before she continued, "But, we're still a bit far off."

There were looks on the face of everyone there, they were currently far away from any civilisation and the cultivator with them could not protect them forever.

One of them would have to breakthrough first and the Forming Pill was right there.

"Hey, how come we don't just ask the senior which one of us is the best to cultivate?" Sui Wenyan asked.

"I suppose that is the best answer..." Wenren Yu replied.

"I agree," Qiu Si replied, "So do I." Zhangsun Shan also said.

---

Far away from both where the four survivors and the Taiyi Sect itself was, were several people convening together.

"According to you, both Elder Mei and Assassin Tang killed each other?" A man in a light blue robe asked.

"Indeed senior! The Taiyi Sect has no allies stronger than they were, and their branches have also been destroyed, there was no one else!" One of the five who had invaded the Taiyi Sect answered.

"Be gone for now." The man in the light blue robe replied.

As the five left, he began to speak to the one to the right of him.

"Sister Xia, do you think they spoke the truth?"

"Little Ye, do not worry. Even if it was a Golden Core expert we do not need to fear them. The Taiyi Sect is but one of many Sects that have and will fall to us..."
