Chapter 1 - Nervous

When I was little, I always thought that when I would start dating, I would have the perfect one. The one who would cherish me, the one who would care and genuinely love me for me. It might've been because all my life, my grandparents had always told us that we will definitely eventually get married. So they rose us to do chores and study hard as young children. But when they passed away, our aunts and uncles took us in. For convenient reasons, they split us up so that each of them could attain finances from grandma and grandpa's will to raise us. According to their will, we were the ones to inherit the household, but because the will said our enheritance would be activated once we turned 20, they split up custody, saying having all of us would be burdening.

I had mostly been in an all girls school until now, but my aunt and uncle insisted that if I were to be educated in the elite Lunarian Academy, it would. boost our family reputation. But I was hesitant because I had been bullied by boys in elementary school and that angered Grandpa. He had me and my sister go to an all girls academy, so I wouldn't have to go through that again and Yuwa wouldn't have to experience it.

But now that we're separated, I won't be able to protect them if anything happens.

"Varity, your uncle and I are going to be gone on a business trip for a few months. So just be a good girl and continue your studies like usual," said the woman dressed in a puffed magenta dress.

"Yes, Aunt Mellie," I replied and bowed as they left the front door of the mansion.

I was alone now. Aunt Mellie and Uncle Steve had brought all the maid servants and butlers with them.

I walked through the dark wooden halls and laid in my huge bed.

I've always heard the Cinderella like stories of orphaned heirs who would be mistreated and be forced to clean the house, but fortunately, Aunt Mellie did not care about tormenting me with child labor.

Tomorrow is my first day of school. The school uniforms are cute and I like the school colors, blue for the loyalty to the king as wide as the ever blue sky and lavendar for the undying bravery of courage just as the strength of the stubborn roots blossoming around the land even through the flames of hell. The trees of lavendar flowers, Ruvia, that blossom around the kingdom have been around for so long that legend has it, they protected the kingdom from the flames of the dragons.

It's a little creepy being home alone.

Maybe I'll keep the lamp on.

I couldn't sleep well at night. I ended up waking up early. I splashed my face with the cold water running from the sink and dressed myself.

Becca knocked and opened my bedroom door,"Miss Varity, it's time to- Ah, you've dressed already? Then allow me to fix your hair before you head to breakfast," Becca said.

Becca brushed my bangs and partially braided my hair on both sides of my head, leaving the rest unbraided.

"Come, come Varity! I made your favorite! Chocolate covered waffles , a breakfast sandwich with bacon, eggs, lettuce, and tomatoes, and a nice hot cup of coffee milk. I've packed your lunch already. Once you finish, we will head off to the academy," Becca said.

Brenda carried my things into the carriage.

The Lunarian Academy is no ordinary academy for rich kids, it is for the well educated mages and knights who will join the imperial army.

"We have arrived miss," Brenda said to me and opened the carriage. It was still dark out. The bridges around the academy were still wet from rain and the lamps were still flickering with bright flames.

We entered one side of the stone walls barricading the academy and were elevated to the main entrance.

"This is where we leave you, Miss," Brenda said with a blank face. She always seemed grumpy because she was always quiet and hardly expressed emotions.

"Goodluck on your first day, Dear!" Becca cheered.

I waved goodbye and walked passed through a maze of stone walls flowing with water and laced with vines of Ruvia. There was a stone pavillion that spouted water from the top like an umbrella enveloping around the small space inside. It's really pretty. I walked up to the waerfall forcefield. I wonder how I can get in. Class won't start for another thirty minutes. Just a little peak won't hurt. I passed my hand through the waterfall and looked inside. It was a small library lit with tiny floating lights.

I wonder if it would be okay if I-

"Hey! You're not supposed to be around here. Go to your class!" a boy dressed in the same uniform as me told me. His coat and tie were navy blue and mine were Lavendar. He must be an upperclassman.

"I-I'm sorry! I'll be going then!" I bowed.

The young man with ash brown hair laughed and said," I was just kidding. Well, not entirely. It's true students shouldn't really be here, but that's because this area belongs to another student. Judging from your uniform, you must be in the middle grade. You should know owned areas are forbidden to enter."

"O-oh, I didn't know that. I'm a new student transferring in today," I replied nervously.

"Hm? A new student? Really? Well, now you know. Areas lit with a glowing rune are owned areas. You're lucky I caught you before you got dragged into a lot of trouble. You might have had to battle the boss to win the area or give up something you own," he smiled and the clocktower chimed.

"I-I see, thank you for warning me. I must be going now!" I bowed again.

"Wait! I'm Zefron Vericht, what's your name!" he called out.

"Varity Lusha!" I shouted as I ran.

He's very handsome and nice.

I wonder if I'll meet him again.

The halls were quiet but the classes were filled by a professor's mumbling.

G-5, that's my class. I didn't think it'd take so long to look for my class. The school buildings were labeled conveniently, but getting to class isn't so convenient. I should have thought this through, especially since there are thousands of classes on campus. But the map made it look like my class was on the first floor...it's on the top floor.

The door creaked and squeaked as I opened it.

"You're late! Class already started five minutes ago!" the teacher yelled," Well, you're new, so it can't be helped. Everyone, we have a transfer student from Bella Academy. Introduce yourself," the teacher said. My heart was pounding and my palms were clamy. I awkwardly walked to the front of the classroom and took a deep breath.

"H-hello, I'm Varity Lusha," I said.

I looked at my fellow classmates, but they answered me with silent stares.

"Okay, you can go sit down now. Sit anywhere you want, I don't care. Just listen and write notes," the professor sighed and grumbled.

He said to sit anywhere, but there's only one seat in the classroom. So far in the back. I don't have contact lens, so guess I'll have to wear my glasses. Was it me, or was the class watching me as I walked up to the empty desk?

A tanned boy with silky white threads tinged in blue ash sat in the far corner next to the window. Some of his hair was beaded in red and orange beads on the side as a braid hung at the back of his head tied with red beads, and his eyes were dyed in midnight amethyst.

The desks were conjoined, a desk for two students. He was writing in his notes and stopped to look at me. His eyes were so beautiful, it caught me off guard. If you looked closer, you could see shimmering azure rings in his eyes.

"Are you just going to stand there?" he asked me.

"U-um can I sit here?" I asked him.

He rolled his eyes and glared at me," Isn't that the only empty chair? Unless, you prefer the floor?"

I was shocked, I just stood there. I was starting to feel my anxiety come back from my memories of the boys making fun of me in grade school.

His eyes were mesmerizing, but his unwelcoming attitude frightened me, I took a step back and froze.

His annoyed voice woke me up from my trance,"Look, I don't care if you sit there. The professor doesn't care either. You either sit or don't sit at all. Well? Are you going to sit?"

"Y-yes!" I panicked and pulled the chair out and sat down.

"Hey you over there, I know you're new, but quiet down!" the professor yelled.

"Pfft.. stupid," I heard him say.

I saw the corner of his lips curl into a smirk.

Did I do something wrong? Was it really okay to sit next to this jerk?
