Chereads / Hound: An hunter amongst hero. / Chapter 2 - Evaluating quirks

Chapter 2 - Evaluating quirks

The day after, Isao nearly bolted out of his bed when he awoke. He was extremely excited for the upcoming quirk evaluation test. He already knew what his quirk was, his potential and how scary it will be in the future, but he really really wanted to show off to his parents, to make them proud of their son that was going to become -in his humble opinion- one of the greatest hero this world had ever seen.

So, kicking off the damned covers that where trying to trip him, he hurriedly made his way to his parents bedroom.

Opening the door he quite literally trew himself in the bed his parents where peacefully sleeping in.

"Mom! Dad! Wake up wake up!" Isao shouted with glee.

"Ahhh! Hero attack!" His father -mainly- screamed.

"Ughhhh" Isao mother instead only groaned, sifting to the side to look at the digital clock on the bedside table before saying "Issssaaaaooo it's 4 in the morning, go back to sleep".

"Buuuttt Mom! I want to take the evaluation test nooowww!" Isao whined.

"I'm going back to sleep" Isao father mutterd to himself, before lieing down, and covering his head with the sheets.

Isao mother sat up, took a look at the smile of his son, before snatching him in an hug, and taking him inside the covers.

Squirming around in the embrace of his mother Isao pleaded for his release, but it fell on deaf ears, as his mother merely hugged him closer.

Realizing that he won't be getting away anytime soon, he gave up and snuggle closer to his mom.

Shortly after he slipped in a dreamless slumber, lulled to sleep by his mother heartbeat.

Two hours and an half later, Isao and his parents finally left the bed, and prepared for going to the hospital.

"Ughh stupid thing! Come on! There-! Noo!

Ughh I hate this piece of trash" Isao shouted in exasperation.

He was trying -and failing- to tie his necktie.

Chuckling Isao mother went over to help him, and in a quick and practiced fashion tied said piece of clothing.

"There there honey, no need to get mad" She said with a smile.

"Thanks love" Isao father sheepishly smiled back, rubbing the back if his neck in embarrassment.

"No problem~...tho" Isao mother smile twisted in a wicked thing, the necktie she was holding starting to close dangerously around her husband neck.

"Don't.Swear.Near.My.Angle" she said in a low voice.

A shiver runned down Isao father spine, who frantically nodded.

"Good~ let's go now, honey" it may have sounded sweet, but in Isao fathers ears it was an absolute order.

Meanwhile Isao was watching with morbid interest from the front door of the house, lightly bouncing up and down to bleed out his exitment, a single thought in his head.

'My mother is scarrryyy'

Shivering at the idea of getting caught in his mother wrath Isao called out "Mom,Dad?! Can you hurry up!".

"Hai Hai" Isao mother replayed with a serene smile.

Exiting their house -a three story building surrounded by a huge garden-, they made their way to their car -a futuristic looking black SUV-.

Opening the backside door, Isao mother picked up her son, before strapping him on his kidseat.

Closing the door and then getting on driver seat, Isao mother waited for Isao father to get his ass inside the other side of the car.

When he did that, she started the engine, and started driving towards the hospital.

Isao looked with interest at the passing surroundings. His home was situated on the outskirts of the city, where it was possible to get such a huge garden without getting beaf from anyone.

With wonder Isao looked at the city of glass and metal and concrete.

Tall skyscraper that pierced the sky like humongous spears, huge appartmen blocks that probably could house thousands of people.

Single story buildings with their unique styles to break the monotony of the city, each telling a story of the family or person that lives within.

Twenty minutes of driving, and they finaly arrived at the hospital.

A gigantic building with more windows that Isao carred to count, the big red cross proudly displayed on the roof top.

Finding a parking lot, they exited the car, both mother and father taking each a hand of their son.

"Swing me up!" Isao asked eagerly.

Chuckling the parents complied to their son whims.

"Weeee!" Happily being swinged up and down, Isao smiled brightly, his smile infecting his parents as well.

Entering inside the hospital, the family of three stoped infront of the desk of the receptionist.

"Hello, how may I help you?" The receptionist, a woman on the more chubby side of things, with blown hair asked.

"Ah! Yes hello, we are here for my son, quirk evaluation test" Isao father stated.

"Do you have an appointment?" Asked the woman.

"Ahhh...not really" Isao father lamely said.

"Then, I'm afraid you will have to wait for your turn. Please go at the end of the corridor, turn left, and wait in that room, the doctor will see you-".

"No, I don't think we will" Isao mother interrupted.

"Ma'am, if you don't have an appointment you will-".

The replay of the woman was interrupted when Isao mother took out her wallet and showed a card.

"P-pro hero" the woman squeaked out.

Nodding Isao mother smiled "Yes dear, so now can we go see the doctor?".

"O-of course A-arte- I mean- Ma'am".

The woman grabbed the red phone that rested on top of her desk, before quickly pressing a button.

Three rings later and the call was answered.

"Mari, I'm currently having the evaluation of a patient, whatever it is it must wait" The voice from the other side was from a woman with a no-nonsense tone.

"I-It's a pro hero-" the receptionist started saying.

"Ohhh! Why didn't you say so before?!" the woman on the other side made a 180 turn and now sounded extremely exuberant.

"Well! Don't make them wait! Bring them here!"

The woman on the other side quickly ordered.

"H-Hai" the receptionist lowered the phone, before turning with a strained smile towards the family of Isao.

"Please follow me" with that she got up from her seat, and started walking towards the corridor that she had previously pointed.

The family followed, Isao mother hiding the smugness she was feeling in that moment behind a serene smile of hers.

'So being a Pro Hero means also gaining other benefits uh?' Isao thought to himself, having witness the whole scene.

Following the plum woman truh a series of corridors they came to a stop infront of a white dubble door.

Politely knocking at the door, the receptionist along with the trio awaited for the arrival of the doctor.

Exactly five seconds later and the door slowly creakes open, a woman with purple hair sticking her head out.

Her gaze passing over the four she said in a jovial tone "Come in! Come in!".

With that she stepped out of the way, opening the door completely.

The receptionist took her leave, while Isao family followed after the new woman.

"So, evaluation test for the little guy right? Miss...?".

Isao mother smiled before saying " Daitan Ryōshi, and yes, we are here for Isao evaluation".

Nodding the female doctor turned towards Isao father before saying "Mister...?".

Jolting slightly Isao father said "Jiro Ryōshi".

Smiling the doctor said "Thank you, I hope that both of you know how the test will be conducted?".

Both parents made an affirmative noise while nodding.

"What tests?" Isao asked.

The doctor smile widened before she started saying "You see, little Isao, the test that you are about to do are the same that your parents took when it was their time to do it".

"Why the same? Isao futher asked.

"Because you see, quirks are related to genetics and as such they are passed down between family members, so, instead of making a lot of usless test we will take the same your parents did to see which one of theirs you took".

"Okay I got it!" Isao smiled happily at the new information that he had gained about the nature of the evaluation.

"Well, he passed the first test for my quirk that's for sure" Jiro commented.

At the questioning look trown his way from both son and mother he hadded "The terminology used by the doctor during her explanation was to complicated for a normal four years old, therefore he must have retained my quirk -or maybe only a part of it-, the real question is tho, how did you -doctor- know that my quirk was an intellect augmentation one?".

The doctor -meanwhile- was starting to sweat a little, truth be told she had forgotten she was talking with a four year old.

"E-erm y-you see, m-my quirk allows me to c-connect myself with any electronics near by, s-so when you t-two stated your names, I-I did a quick search truh the hospital archives"

what she had just sprouted was utterly bullshit and she knew it, hell from the looks of it only Jiro seemed to buy it.

"I see, I see" Isao father nodded, which made both his son and his wife facepalm.

"S-so here we are! Littel Isao will have to get in here alone, I'm afraid" she gestured towards a heavily reinforced door.

Both parents nodded before turning to their child, Daitan spoke up "Isao dear, you heard her, mommy and daddy will have to leave you alone for a while, be good and follow the doctor instructions, okay?".

"Don't worry Mom!" Isao boardly grinned, giving a thumbs up.

The three adults had to blink away at the image of a rising sun over an ocean that they -surely- must have imagined.

The woman swiped a card at the scanner that stood on the side of the door, with a *ping* the door unlocked itself.

Grabbing the handle the doctor quickly pulled the door open before saying "Okay little Isao, enter here".

Isao nodded before stepping inside the room.

The interior was somewhat both exciting and lackluster.

It was a very big room, around 200 meters in all directions, all the surface of the room was made out of a white metal, it was smooth on the walls and it had octagonal tiles for the floor, the illumination was provided by a large quantity of white led lights.

Inside this room where a bunch of equipments, from gripp measurement machines to tredmills.

"Okay Isao, I need you to go on the treadmill on your left, we will get a read of the maximum speed you can achive, so be sure to run as fast as you can, okay?" The voice of the doctor came from everywhere at once -no doubt due to hidden speakers-.

"Okay~!" Isao cheerfully shouted.

Skipping his way to the treadmill that he was asked to use, he quickly got on before asking

"Now what?".

"Now I'm going to start the machine, I will gradually increase the speed the track goes, when you feel that it's going to fast for you please tell me".

"Okay".

A small wait later and the track of the treadmill started moving, very slowly at the start but it was quickly gaining speed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile in the observation room for the evaluation the doctor was chatting with Miss Daitan and Mister Jiro.

"I'm starting with the physical test because they are easier to observe than the intellectual ones" she explained to the two.

"So...Mister Daitan-san- or should I say Artemis-san?"

"Daitan-san is better thank you" Isao mother answered.

"So, Daitan-san, your quirk is 'Hound' correct?"

"Yes it is".

The doctor nodded before saying "And it greatly boost your whole body but with a more sizable improvement on your hearing and smelling?"

"That's pretty much it" Daitan confirmed.

"And you Mister Jiro-san, your quirk is 'Geared Mind' correct? Which greatly improved your

mind as well as your reflex?".

"Yes to both" Isao father answered.

"Well for what I could see it seems that Isao most definitely did inherit his mother quirk, but we will need a DNA sample to determine if Isao quirk is a mutation of 'Hound', a combination of both quirks, or -most improbably- a new quirk entirely but similar".

Reaciving a nod from the two parents, the doctor started once again raising the speed of the treadmill before asking "Daitan-san, when you had your evaluation, what was the top speed that you manage to reach?".

At that question Isao mother slightly puffed out her chest in pride before saying "Around 50 kilometers per hour".

"Then let's start with bring the speed at that value" pressing a button she modified the acceleration that the treadmill was going to receive each second, so the speed of the track was very quickly starting to reach the aforementioned 50 kilometers per hour.

Seeing that Isao still didn't show signs that he was going to slow down, the doctor started to slowly increase the speed of the machine.

A few seconds later and she heard a "Stop!" from Isao.

Turning off the machine the doctor turned towards the parents before saying "72 kilometer per hours before it becomes too much for him".

Isao mother smiled brightly at that, an action that was mirrored by her husband.

"My baby boy is so fast~" she happily said in glee.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turning back to the evaluation room, Isao was slightly panting, having sitted himself on the ground to gain back some breath.

"Very good little Isao! You managed to reach 72 kilometer per hours!"

"Is it good?" Isao asked in excitement, momentarily forgetting about his tiredness.

"It's very good! Your parents are very proud of you Isao".

Puffing his chest in pride -a warm feeling swealing inside of him- Isao letted out an happy laugh.

"Well now little Isao, looks like someone is happy eh? Well, let's not waste to much time, after all you still have other seven test to take".

Isao regretted of being excited about this, oh if he regretted it.

Groaning he got up before saying "Okaaayyy...what's next?".

Aaaand done! Second chapter finished!

Hope you liked it!

(Not sure if the ending counts as a cliff hanger tho).

BTW important question, should I skip Isao younger years and go directly to when he has to take the UA admission test, or would you guys prefere if I do some gradual timeskips (Example: time skip when he his 5, and then a bit of a story)?
