Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Awakening

I was unconscious. What happened? I tried to open my eyes, but to no avail. There was some ringing noise in the background, but I could not make out what it was. How long had I been unconscious? Days? Weeks? Even months? What happened during the time I was in the Palace of the Stars with my sister Dream?

I tried to open my eyes but to no avail as something was too bright. Not believing I could not open my eyes, I tried again and managed to do so successfully. Surveying my surroundings, I found out I was in a poorly built hut and a man had fallen asleep on my lap. I could not make out who it was, neither could I recognize him. A figure was all I could make out, yet his features were hard to make out due to the bright light. I tried to gather my thoughts, but all I could think of was what was happening right now. I was not in the same place from when I went into slumber.

The man woke up drowsily, and instantly smiled at me. "Luna, you're finally awake! Do you know how worried I was when I heard you were unconscious? I rushed all the way here for you! I'm glad you're safe and sound... God knows what I'm going to do if you could not wake up and were stuck in an endless slumber..."

Looking at that chiseled face, tears started flowing down my cheeks. In my mind I thought: "This, this couldn't be.. Didn't Victor die in the war? Is this...a dream?" Seeing my sudden tears, the man named Victor consoled me by embracing me. I hadn't felt this sensation in such a long time. His warmth, was what I missed the most. Yet this did not feel like a dream. It felt surreal. Was it real?

Was I given a chance to correct all my mistakes, and perhaps gain another chance to possibly gain back my lover? I did not know, I leaned against the bed fixated on contemplating if this was real.

To confirm my thoughts, I reached out to Victor and asked him if I could take a look at myself. He agreed to, as he was already happy that he was able to see I'm safe and sound.

Looking at myself portrayed by the mirror, instead of a goddess who once emanated aura that stuck fear into the hearts of my enemies, I was reduced to a feeble girl who had no clue of how the world worked. I chuckled to myself silently. At least this proved my theory. For some reason, I had a chance to right all of my mistakes. At least, if I acted correctly chose my choices, I would not let my lover die in this life. My comrades, my loved ones. I won't let them die in front of me while I watch them helplessly. I would take back what was rightfully mine, through one way or another.

After making my bed and organizing my night stand neatly, I went to the bathroom to prepare myself for the day. After entering the bathroom, I distracted myself from my thoughts by changing into some decent looking clothes. Then, I freshened myself up by washing my face and brushing my teeth. I looked at myself in the mirror, momentarily mentally preparing myself for the day ahead and left my room looking neat and tidy.

Heading down the stairs, Victor was whipping up a delectable breakfast for me- my favorite sunny side up with his signature sauce drizzled on top, coupled with fresh pieces of lettuce. Of course, being famished this early in the morning, I gobbled it down immediately. He laughs while staring deep into my sapphire eyes, looking entranced. I snapped him out of his dream and told him I would head out for a stroll. Of course, I needed to know where I was currently. After all, it had been a long time since I had been out to the mortal world, so I did not know where this town I was residing in was currently situated at.

Merchants were advertising their goods to interested buyers, hoping to make a fortune like any other day, while shopkeepers were trying to entice the townspeople into the buying their goods. In the alleyway to the right, shops hidden under the sight of the guards patrolling were seen. Recognizing the attires of the guards, I instantaneously knew where I was currently at - The Royal Capital Yler of the place I least wanted to be, in the Evermoon Empire. There was a reason why I hated to be in this place out of all of the other Empires. The reason was I was originally born in the Palace under my paternal uncle Wilfred. At first, when I was young and had an innocent mindset, I used to think that uncle Wilfred was someone I could trust since he was the closest to my parents. However, as I grew older, I came to realize he was only eyeing for the throne. But since I was the direct descendants of the Empire, which my father and mother was King and Queen, my uncle had to vie with me for the throne. As such, seeing as his attempts to give up the throne willingly to him failed, he sent assassins to try and kill me when I was at the age of 16. Because of that, I was scared and immediately left the empire and headed to the Alars, which was also the place I met Victor.

Looking back at how weak I was, perhaps I wasn't suited to be the sole heir to the throne after all. If only I had been a little bit more courageous, I might not have fell to my uncle's devious schemes. Yet, at least I was better prepared this time around. I just had to find the Artifact I once had, a sign of royalty that only direct descendants of the noble lineage could wield it.

Determined, I returned home to see Victor.
