"CAtherrrr!! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH" I heard Shayne yell as she jogged her way towards me and I buried my head inside the locker, pretending to not be the Cather she was calling for. How I wish the floor would just open up and swallow me.
"Shh…" I motioned her to shut up with my fingers on my lips before pulling her to my side.
"What is it this time" I rolled my eyes, humming a tune as I unpacked my textbooks from my locker.
"We haven't spoken in like forever! And I have missed you so much"!
"I know right?" I replied smugly and was about to close the locker when I spotted a paper in between my physics textbook. I reached to take it and unfolded it, completely ignoring shayne.
I quickly fold it back when I saw the name 'The unknown' written below it. Likewise, I completely lost it and my eagerness took the best of me. Furthermore, I could feel my heart pounding loudly in my chest, and I was about to hide somewhere when I remembered that Shayne was still here.
"I need to use the restroom" I couldn't think of a better excuse and I ran towards the restroom without bothering to answer Shayne.
...
Opening the door to the nearest cubicle, I locked it behind me and then unfolded it to read the content.
~Dear Cather, it's been a long time, did you miss me? Lol… Don't mind me I don't write letters often.
I must say you're so feeble and slow. You weren't even able to find out if it was an accident or not. Tssk. You aren't as capable as I thought and ooh your dad's got a clue, and he is desperate to find the culprit but you? How about I give you a hint.
Do you think your memory loss is related to your accident or is it not? Haha! am just making assumptions. And yeah I have got to warn you, do not try to find me, I really hate people disturbing my peace. I hope there won't be a second time. And ooh Marcus is not a bad idea... *chuckles evilly. Yours faithfully.
~ The Unknown
I read it over and over again to see if there was any other point I was missing but was interrupted by the bell for first period.
Folding the letter back, I put it back in my pocket and adjusted my skirt, before making my way back to the classroom.
"Since 0 is always constant,"
I heard the physics teacher explain from outside, and I opened the door as quietly as I could.
"You could have just crawled in instead" Mr Jefferson commented sarcastically and the class burst into laughter. I faked an awkward smile, saying sorry before making my way to my seat.
Embarrassed was an understatement because what I felt was definitely more than that. Regardless, I opened my textbook to the chapter he was teaching and life went back to normal. Or at least for them.
Mr Jefferson made sure I had a hard time by posing questions at me suddenly and if I was slow to answer, he would insult me. It went on like that till the class was finally over and if not because I was strong-willed I would have burst into tears there and then.
I felt Edward tap me and I turned to shoot him a glare before facing front. The last thing I wanted today was to be caught talking in class. He didn't give up and kept poking me with the tip of his pen and when I couldn't take it any more I turned to face him, giving him the 'what do you want' look, and he leaned in to whisper.
"You seem off. Is something the problem"?
No I don't have a problem alright. You are the one who has a problem, your whole family has a problem.
"Why do you care? " I asked, faking annoyance. In fact, I had already forgotten about what happened yesterday, but I had to put up a tough front and pretend I was still mad.
"You still mad at me?"
Good he gets the point.
"What do you think" I wasn't about to admit it to avoid being deemed as petty and ungrateful, so I turned away and wrote on paper.
'Can you not disturb me? I am trying to listen here' I was about to pass him the paper when I heard Mrs Brown clear her throat, to remind us of her presence.
Oh, My! God, she is so close. Why does this idiot have to put me in trouble again?
Surprisingly, she did not say anything further and just went back to explaining. Realizing that I was out of trouble, I heaved a sigh of relief before passing the paper I had intended to pass earlier to him.
He smiled when he read it. OK fine I was looking? Don't ask me why am a normal living breathing human being who. Wait I don't even. Like him. My bad.
"But I wanna talk to you. How about this, you tell me what is wrong, and I shut up" He wrote back, and I palmed my face.
I decided giving him audience would only stoop me to his level, so I ignored him and kept listening. What he did next made my face burn in anger, and I was astonished.
"Teach, can you stop for a while? I want to have a word with Cather. Thank you" I was sure the teacher was also shocked at this point, but there was nothing she could do since Edward was not someone she could afford to offend.
She cleared her throat as if to let others know of her authority and save face for herself, but aside that, she really paused as told. To my awkwardness, the whole class steered their head to my direction as if trying to get new information and at that moment, I was sure that what happened today wouldn't stay in the class.
...
With my head hung low, I tried to walk like my name wasn't on everyone's tongues but was surprised when I didn't see anyone pointing or even gathering in group to whisper in a loud manner about me.
I could swear I thought I was having hearing problems but when I looked up, there really was nothing like that. I released a breath I didn't notice I had been holding in and walked as quietly as I could in case it was because they hadn't noticed me yet.
My plan was to meet Sheebah and have a talk with her but after that day, I hadn't been able to find her, let alone talk to her. Ken had to help me hack into the school system where we looked through the student's files and fortunately since she was a new student, we found her file easily and was able to check which class she was in.
I found out she was in the same class as Becca and with that as a lead, I began to tail her and soon was able to follow her to the school library.
Some alone time, I thought as I stared at her from a distance, I saw the complicated look on her face and I knew in my mind that she wouldn't be an easy catch
