Chereads / Raven The Shadow / Chapter 4 - A Month Passes

Chapter 4 - A Month Passes

I've learnt quite a lot for such a young infant and I find that bizarre since I lived in a country of knowledge. Aside from that, a month has passed and I would like to say, I can finally see things clearly and my heart has managed to generate proper energy as I can stay awake for a lot longer and move more properly. The development intrigued mother and father as I began to walk in a funky way. Which shows I lack basic movement skills, but to my parents, they found it astounding. Apparently, most infants around one month never start walking so well until around the age of one year.

Another thing happened too, my body grew a little taller, which astounded me since humans didn't grow fast like this. My parents considered it normal since they both have a genetic that causes infants to grow faster than the normal baby.

Of course, I still require major assistance in some basic necessities like toileting, changing and all other basics aside from movements and growth.

Slowly, I began to develop better muscles in the last two weeks. Slowly, but at least it's better than when I was on day one of being awake.

I still remained unable to speak in any form aside from crying, laughing or the animal sounds like yelps or whimpers. When I was in mothers arms, she tried to teach me two words, mother and father. I knew who was who, but my muscles were preventing me from speaking those words.

Anyway, today I want to try something new: mischief.

It was something I never had much freedom on aside from teaching apprentices the basic sword skills or some tips, but my previous life was full of formalities and I suppose looking back on it, that life is boring.

So, when I was with father, I wanted to be a rascal like he called me and did something fun. While being held, he tried to tickle me, but instead of letting him, I looked at the fur below his arm and tugged it hard in to which caused him to yelp.

"MMM! T-that... please..." father bent down as he let me go onto the ground of the hallway. Another mischief idea came to mind. So, letting go to let him recover, I tried to run off. With a giggle I started to run, but my movement being funky and slow, he grabbed me by my arms before he scratched the bottom of my mouth.

"And so here begins the mischief, eh?" he chuckled as he looked to have remembered something. "Anyway, mummy needs our attention, let's go."

We continued down the hallway and for some reason I can't help but realize the halls were practically empty. Well, it's a small building located somewhere high up according to mother who was talking with a couple of strange beasts who wore fancy clothes.

"Futr," I attempted to say father, but failed again. Although, it did get his attention as he looked at me. So, I pointed to his mask and rubbed it. His eyes slightly surprised, but he closed them briefly before looking forward again.

"No," he always says when I ask something wrong.

'Just what are those masks anyway. And why don't I have one even though his genetics flow strongly through mine?' I came up with a few theories and quickly dismissed them for the lack of evidence. Instead, I simply groomed my ears.

When beast men with fluffy ears leave their ears unattended for too long, they grow tight and blocks their hearing. Then again, cleaning ears is essential since the gunk inside bodes a problem one should not have to suffer if they clean themselves.

After I groomed my ears, I looked to my right to see two figures who stood guard together outside the doors of mother's room.

When the guards saw me and father, they raised their spears and smirked before father knew what was going on. He was about to place me down before one person tapped his shoulder.

"Please come on with us. Also, you guys should probably stop acting smug about him. Shadow is a friend and he probably assumes we're taking his land when we're not," the voice sounded smart, strong and justice-like. Another wolf beast with black fur and a strange mask stood next to father. He had some strange marks on him that were vaguely blue.

"Alright, ma-" he was interrupted by the beast next to him.

"No, she comes in too. It's a matter that must involve her," he had these strange glass things on his eyes as he pressed them to create a strangely smarter look. Also, it looked kind of weird too. "Why do I feel as though your kid is looking at my glasses weirdly..."

The beast sighed as father chuckled slightly.

The guards pulled their spears back and stood firmly, letting us enter mothers room. She was asleep, again. She wore clothes this time. Strange clothes that shone sliver.

'Since when...' before my wonder came, the smart guy stood forward and called out to her.

"Lord Everest of the Northern lands, I come with a request," he bowed like a human would as mother awoke before she got up to groom herself and came over to us. When she arrived, mother stretched her arms and yawned.

"Sorry for the lack of preparation, those pesky nobles of the South keep bugging me. So much so that they attempted to murder me," her voice was casual. She noticed me as she scratched my chin. "Were you good while mummy was busy?"

Father chuckled before handing me over to mother who willingly held me. "Mischief has already begun for her. Look, some of my hair is pulled."

He lifted his arm to see that his hair was a little messed with showing signs of pulling. Mother laughed while the three guests remained tense. Something is certainly weird.

"Anyway, you guys act to stiff. At least ac-" mother was interrupted.

"It's a matter regarding all nations of East, West and South. They've all been conquered," this made mother place me down on the ground and the group grew very tense. In fact, it's almost like any signs of relaxation was removed.

"By whom?" father asked first as he looked very stressed and curious by the sudden news. "What kind of monstrosity could overtake anyone, let alone three nations? Not even the humans nor the supposed remnants of elves could take on our strength."

"D-demons..." the smart guy stuttered the word as his hands shook with fear. According to history, demons were extremely powerful beings that had monsters so strong that just one monster can take on a hundred beast men.

Everyone remained silent before the smart guy started crying.

"And, this palace is the last place remaining. According to our scouts, they can't penetrate the barrier and that a human sacrificed a thousand souls for these beasts. How could they posses such a means to do this..." when I heard this, I looked eyes towards the guy and walked funkly over to him. Tugging on his leg, he glared at me with tears. Making me flinch, but I stood my ground. "WHAT?"

"HEY! DON'T SCREAM AT MY KID!" father yelled before mother punched their guts. This time I decided to put all my efforts into what I want to commune.

Walking over to the bookshelf, I clearly remembered the book.

'Here, the book on demons.' it was clearly written in my own handwriting as I pulled the book. Mother grabbed my arms before shaking her head.

"Don't touch that relic," before I sighed and fell on my back before laying on my side to rest. "What the... You seriously just sighed at something? This book has a strange language that seems to date back a thousand years."

When I glanced at her trying to read the book, I got up to tug her leg. Growling, she finally gave up before giving me the book.

'Now, to read what I researched about the demon race. Once when I was fighting that war, there were various ruins that held writings of a demonic race. So, I researched everything and this book contains it all.' My pondering continued as I read the book.

I slowly read the books since my eyes aren't the same as before. I bent my legs sideways and flailed my tail as I stuck myself into reading.

On page twenty, it says something about how the souls were used to summon demons. Because, to summon demons with souls doesn't seem right. Here, I clearly stated that fact and went on explaining what the demon race was before saying the possible extra requirements.

"How the fuck can she read that? Wait, can she even read?" a guard asked in a vulgar way before I heard father.

"I dunno, she's a unique one. Perhaps something within our genetics merged and that maybe she develops rapidly," father's voice sounded tired as he sighed. Then, I found what I was looking for.

I yelped as I finally discovered something. Mother ran over to see why I yelped and grabbed my book from my hands. Squealing like a kid who wants to read more, mother sighed as she gave it back.

"I can't understand it. Maybe she's just faking it," she said before I mumbled the words of a particular line.

"Castle... of... light. Holding, power," everyone's faces grew stiff like I said something wrong. Then, I was quickly lifted up before mother analysed my body. My mismatched eyes tired from constant usage of my brain before I slept in her grasp.
