Chapter 3 - Prologue II

March 19th, 1997

Moriarty Manor

Dublin, Ireland

One year ago, Avelina Byrne was sold to Lord Moriarty to be his...entertainment. That day, the young woman helplessly cried and begged not to be sold only for it to be fruitless. Chained, physically and mentally...Bound to a stranger, she had some little hope that the man she loved would have saved her.

Looking back upon that day, the woman scoffed under her breath as she put her crystal earrings on. How foolish she would have been to not believe he had loved and would help her. She would have turned into a cold, broken-hearted woman had Lord Moriarty not explained the truth behind her circumstances only shortly after arriving to his manor some three days later. Then a few months later, she took her place as Lady Moriarty, sister to the Lord.

In truth, the Lord was her mother's elder brother's son, Christopher Moriarty. He was the legitimate heir to the Moriarty family and should he die, the will stated that she would become the heir. The mafia part was a lie to scare her father into letting her go.

Upon her mother's final days; the woman had sent a letter out to him and his father to save Avelina. Yet they didn't have enough power and riches to do so at the time or else they'd have saved her from the start.

As for Fedor; the Russian lover of hers had snuck away to seek Lord Moriarty to save Avelina and to give her a better life. Seeing as it was already the plan, the Lord agreed but warned Fedor to never come around her again.

*~*~*~*~*

Now a year later, a celebration was being held tonight at the Manor to celebrate the one year anniversary of her freedom.

Sighing aloud, Avelina turned away from her mirror to face her open doorway where Lord Moriarty stood. Her darling cousin was smiling ear to ear at how beautiful she looked, the small light in her eyes was always better than nothing for him.

"Come on dearest. The party will be starting soon and there is a special guest for you"

Christopher teased her, walking over to hold a hand out to her. Donning an all black three piece suit as the first time they'd met, the man looked absolutely handsome. As for Avelina, she donned a floor length, lace, open back red dress. Her mask was that of a white kitsune. His being a black half mask.

Leading her out of her room and down to the ball, Christopher then left her be to mingle with the staff and family for this masquerade ball was for those in the manor only and selected few.

Twas nearing the fifth hour of the party when she bumped into a masked man whilst dancing. The tall bulky man reminded her of her lover whom she missed dearly but it was hard to tell who he was.

"M-my apologies Sir. Are you alright?"

The soft voice of an angel echoed in his mind, onyx eyes that peered through the mask looked down at the woman. Her eyes, smile, voice, everything about her always made him so hyper aware, he didn't know what to do with himself. His angel stood before him.

"It's alright m'lady. I am the one at fault not you. Hmm I would be if I can have a dance with an angel like you~"

His silky, deep baritone voice whispered in her ears with a smirk. It was a playful smirk as always but he knew she'd recognize his voice in due time. Right he was, for she gasped in surprise then immediately latched herself onto him in a gripping hug. Wrapping his arms around her, they both held on as if it were the last time they'd hold each other, silently crying for joy.

"Ah!! I see you've met him before I could introduce you both, haha!"

Christopher's cheerful voice rang out upon approaching them, effectively breaking the moment. That earned him a punch to gut from Avelina who was still sniffling and crying. Fedor chuckled, taking his handkerchief out to wipe her tears away.

"Shh~ don't cry my love. It's alright now. I'm here to stay."

Fedor reassured his angel. The woman didn't say a thing just did. She latched herself onto Fedor once again to hold him and cry tears of joy to see him again. One excruciatingly long year of loneliness without him was too much.

Christopher chuckled softly, seeing how she reacted to being with Fedor, the light in her eyes blooming into a flower. It was then that the reality of her departure dawned upon him.

Days later, Avelina and Fedor left the manor and travelled to the south where their last remaining years were spent.
