Born with a natural skill set, her ability to use every type of weapon with ease and precision earned her leadership over his brothers and her people the "Sirrah." The Sirrah has always been skilled and gifted in weaponry, medicinal remedies and the occasional seers, they were an army that fought for the highest bidder. Being selective with their battles, they fought army against army, no raiding or pillaging villages and no harm would come to any child. There have been instances where Rena made impulsive, lone decisions.
Combining their strengths had always led to the best outcome that they as individuals could never come to. At this point, the best decision was still unknown to either of them and that is where the weakness lied.
"I don't know, but we have to consider every option as quickly as possible," Elijah spoke while running his hand through her hair, gazing at the ceiling. Even in times like these, his calmness had to be strong for both of them.
"Even if the vision has to come through, I wish it hadn't come at this time, the children are still so young. Elise hasn't begun her training yet and the boys..... it feels like just yesterday I had brought them into their world" she began to wipe her tears away. Elijah brought bother of them to sit up, he gazed at her, his thumb caressing her cheek.
"We will get through this like we always do, side by side. The children will grow up strong and safe, the kingdom will not fall, not now, not ever." He said quite convincingly without blinking.
"Okay"
"Okay" he then brought their foreheads together, both of their eyes closed, breathing deeply.
"I love you so much," he said
"I love you" she responded before kissing him slowly, she paused and pulled away
"I love that you always know when I need you. We are gonna get through whatever comes our way, I know that with all my heart." Rena said this while aimlessly moving her thumb against his cheek.
"We all will get through this" Elijah agreed, he then held Rena's hand and kissed it, he pulled the blanket to cover both of their bodies. They each blew out the flame on either side of their bed, drifting to sleep with anticipation of tomorrow.
The Next Day
The council members of Elensia had woken up to a messenger delivering a letter requesting their presence at a mandatory, emergency meeting by order of the King and Queen. The members were supposed to meet in a few weeks, the fact that the issue could not be addressed at a later date frightened some. Other members felt that the discussion would be about the future of Elensia and the line of succession. Though Princess Elise was the eldest, some believed that a male heir would be more "suitable" to lead the kingdom.
"I think it is the perfect test to see how efficient each council member is, especially those who were only appointed based on their birthright and contribute absolutely nothing," Rena said while looking out the window of their bedroom watching the arrival of some of the members.
"I know you are not fond of some of them, but we need them to be informed of the upcoming battle, their perspective on this might surprise you," Elijah said as he placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Let's hope so" she responded placing her hands on top of his.
Rena turned to face Elijah, he placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Hand in hand they walked out of their bedroom and continued down the hall. Rena stopped by a window to see Elise practicing her archery while the twins, Renner and Eon learned how to hold their wooden swords. The King and Queen looked upon their children as a reminder that they must consider all possibilities on how to deal with the threat.
"Darling, we have to go" Elijah whispered into her ear.
They had finally reached the council room and stood before the door after looking at each other, the guards opened them.
"All rise for the rulers of Elensia, King Elijah and Queen Rena"
Every council member stood and bowed their heads and remained standing until Elijah had seated Rena, then seated himself.
"We have called you here today because there has been an urgent matter that we have to bring to your attention. It would have come sooner but we felt the need to gather more information and verify its authenticity before bringing it to the light of day" Elijah explained trying to prepare them to have an open mind.
"Ariah" Rena announced her entry into the room, because Ariah is not a member she has to be summoned by the King and Queen and can only enter upon their command. Ariah bowed and then moved to stand between Elijah and Rena.
"Please tell everyone her in as much detail as you can, what your recent and reoccurring vision is about," Rena said while looking at Ariah with pleading eyes as to leave nothing out and to not be fearful in the presence of people who are above her only by title.
"As you wish your majesties."
Before Ariah could say a word, a messenger stormed into the room, under normal circumstances the meeting is never to be interrupted unless something had caused the kingdom to be in peril or they were given the order to interrupt no matter what they were occupied with at the said time. In this case, it was the latter.
"Your majesties, they have returned" out of breath he spoke as his hand was placed over his chest attempting to control his breathing. Sweat running down the sides of his face, both of his hands then moved to his knees that were straining to keep him in an upright position. Some of the members were shocked by the surprising intrusion while others were angered about the fact that they had been summoned to an impromptu meeting based on a vision.
Rena and Elijah pushed themselves out of their chairs, seeing the messenger trying to compose himself.
"Who has returned?" Elijah and Rena waiting on his answer since both of them had asked him to alert them immediately upon their arrival.
