The New Ranger
Flashback...
In a world where dream of becoming a superhero became a reality. It all started in QinqQinq, China, when a baby was born with a light superpower. Since then, 80% of the population have developed these supernatural abilities which was later called "Quirks" while the other 20% of the population are normal.
"Stop it... Kacchan... you're hurting him..." A green haired young boy stuttered.
The ashen haired boy evilly smiled and activates his Quirk, "Still playing a hero, Deku? What a pathetic Quirkless loser." The bully, alongside with his goons, beaten the green haired boy mercilessly.
Izuku Midoriya is one of the 20% that doesn't have a Quirk. He longed for becoming a hero so that he could save people with a smile like his idol, All Might – The Symbol of Peace and the Number One Hero of Japan. He lives in a world where not everyone was born equal.
"Can I become hero without a Quirk?" Midoriya asked his idol.
Midoriya was ready to hear what All Might was about to say. He hopes that becoming a Quirkless hero is a possibility but...
"I'm sorry, but you can't be a hero." All Might answered straightforwardly which shocks the young boy. "It's nothing wrong for you to dream about it, but also consider the reality, young man. If you want to help people maybe become a police officer, they don't pay much but at least they are decent." All Might makes his way downstairs leaving the distraught Midoriya on the rooftop.
"He... even... said I can't be a hero..." Midoriya couldn't believe that his idol disagreed.
After that "fateful" encounter, he heard a commotion downtown that there was a villain attack with a student hostage. Midoriya was still distraught from All Might's answer as he turns away from the villain scene.
He found a beach that was filled with garbage. He decides to take a seat and rethink his life decision. He was thinking of becoming an officer like All Might's suggestion but the Pro Heroes would find a way to take all the credit because the police are nothing more than villain cleanups, but at least he could still save people.
"Maybe I should be a..." Midoriya couldn't think of another job because was dead set on becoming a hero since he was a child. "The two of them are right. I can't be a hero without a Quirk," Midoriya stated. "All Might's the Number One Hero, he's always right. I should have listen to Kacchan. He already knew the outcome of my foolish dream."
Suddenly, a ball of green light was heading towards Midoriya. He knew it was heading at his direction as he immediately hides behind a refrigerator. The item landed on the ground with loud explosion as the sands flew everywhere. Midoriya gulps and cautiously walks toward the mysterious item.
"What is that thing?" Midoriya sees something the mysterious item and kneels on the sand to looks closer. "Is this a Support Item?"
When Midoriya touches the item, a hologram instantly appeared from the item which causes Midoriya to jump back in surprise. The hologram was a man wearing green shirt and black jacket. He has a dragon's foot symbol on the middle
"Who... are you?" Midoriya curiously asked.
"Greetings, Ranger. My name is Tommy Oliver." The hologram answered.
"Tommy... Oliver. Are you human?" Midoriya wondered and was fascinated of the advanced technology.
Holo-Tommy sighs, "Unfortunately, I'm not. I'm a fragment of the mind of the original Tommy. He has already passed."
Midoriya was still amaze by the technology of the mysterious item. He was curious on how the original Tommy created this but then he was disturbed by what the hologram said on the last part.
"What happened to the original Tommy?" Midoriya curiously asked.
"Before I tell you what happened to my original self, I must tell you about this item and its origin," Holo-Tommy said. "Everything I say is true and be sure to not faint after."
"Sure." Midoriya takes out his notebook from out of nowhere to list everything down.
"In the year 1990, five teenagers were summoned by an alien head known as 'Zordon'. Zordon gave them Power Coins and Morphers each to turn them into Earth's Defenders called the Power Rangers."
The footage of the five teenagers morphed into spandex wearing superheroes for the first time was shown. Midoriya was in awe after seeing the transformation and wrote down the codenames – Red Ranger, Blue Ranger, Black Ranger, Yellow Ranger, and Pink Ranger.
"Tommy Oliver became the Green Ranger when Rita Repulsa, one of the main Villains of the Power Rangers, gave Tommy the Dragon Power Coin and brainwashed him to fight the Rangers which, of course, utterly failed. Tommy then became the sixth Ranger for the team until he temporarily leaves the group when his Power Coin was destroyed. Zordon later gave Tommy the Tiger Power Coin and became the White Ranger. He then became the leader... of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers."
Midoriya writes down everything the Holo-Tommy said. He couldn't believe that the villain of the Power Rangers made Tommy an enemy until the brainwashed wore off. He was amazed that the normal teenagers from another world gained Quirks and become heroes. He then wrote the full team name of the team – "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers".
"When the Mighty Morphin' was disbanded after saving the world, new generations of Power Rangers were born such as Alien, Zeo, Turbo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, Wild Force, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, S.P.D., Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury, RPM, Samurai, Megaforce, Dino Charge, Ninja Steel, Beast Morphers, Dino Fury, and many more Rangers that have yet to shine."
Midoriya jaw drops when he saw different Power Ranger incarnations in the footage. He was in disbelief when the Rangers were fighting various hideous monsters, dinosaurs, sorcerers, aliens, world destroyers, and many more. He couldn't believe that there was another life outside of Earth as he wonders whether if any footage that was shown were real but Holo-Tommy reassures that everything he saw in the footage are indeed real and not fictitious which made Midoriya drool from excitement.
"Now about their powers, the first Rangers received their powers when they became Power Rangers while some Rangers in the new generations possess an ability... or Quirk in your term. When they became Rangers, they possess enhanced strength, durability, agility, and combat prowess. Some of them possess superhuman or psychic abilities such as super-speed, element manipulation, extra-sensory perception or invisibility. In addition, each individual Ranger has a unique weapon, as well as common weaponry used for ground fighting. They are not called Power Rangers for nothing."
Midoriya was in disbelief when some Rangers were actually Quirkless before becoming a Power Ranger. He was wondering how it was possible to have Quirks through this odd item that was created by an alien. He listed down the possibilities and slightly muttered before Holo-Tommy continued with his explanation.
"The Zords, named after Zordon, are giant mechanic vehicle that Power Rangers piloted when fighting against gigantic foes. When they are overwhelmed by the strength of their enemies, they can combine their Zords into a Megazord which increased the strength and power of the Zords as well as gain new abilities. The original Tommy has multiple Zords such as the Dragonzord which is currently at the bottom of the ocean, Tigerzord, Falconzord, Red Battlezord, and many among others. Also, when they are fighting giant monsters, they completely avoid collateral damage which surprisingly works unless they have no choice."
Midoriya jaw drops once again after seeing giant mechs operated by the Power Rangers. They were different kinds of Zords like vehicles, a space station, animals, shogun, the entire headquarters, mystical creatures, and many more. He was even more amaze when they combine together like toys to become one big Megazord. He immediately writes it down and draws every Zords that were shown in the footage. He couldn't believe that the Rangers of the giant mechs are unable to cause any collateral damage which proves that they are professional Heroes.
"And then... he came," the footage of Lord Drakkon appeared which intimated the Quirkless boy. "Lord Drakkon, the evil counterpart of Tommy Oliver. In his world, he never joined the original Power Rangers and chose to side with Rita until he killed her when he became stronger and faster than any other Rangers. He successfully conquered his Earth and began to invade other dimensions. He gave the Rangers a chance to surrender and bow before him as a 'god' but they refused and fought him which inevitably ended with their death."
Midoriya was horrified on what he saw. Lord Drakkon was killing the Rangers then takes their morphers to absorb the powers which made him even more stronger and faster. He displayed the helmets as a trophy of his accomplishments in his room which causes Midoriya shiver in from the various Rangers that were killed in the hands of Lord Drakkon. He couldn't believe that actually happened and the fact that a Villain successfully conquered the world which shouldn't be possible.
"Tommy and the nine other Rangers were sent on a mission to spy on Drakkon's armies, but it was backfired when he already expected them. They were all killed one by one until Tommy was the only one left. He re-engineered his morpher to choose a new wielder with a heart of a hero before his... demise." Holo-Tommy sadly said as he points at the Master Morpher. "This morpher has chosen you, Izuku Midoriya."
Midoriya was still processing everything from what the Holo-Tommy said. There were other worlds besides his and they are all Defenders of Earth, Galaxy, Space and Time. He couldn't believe that an evil counterpart of a hero killed so many Rangers because he wanted to be treated as a god. After the endless mind process, He then snapped out of it when the Holo-Tommy said that he was going to own the Master Morpher which he immediately shakes his head in refusal.
"Wait, wait, wait! I don't think I'm fit to be a Ranger or something," Midoriya stated. "I'm just a Quirkless boy who had a foolish dream of becoming a hero."
Holo-Tommy raises his eyebrow in confusion, "And... why being a hero is a foolish dream? Is it because you are Quirkless?"
"Yes. My childhood 'friend' and All Might told me that I can't be a hero if I don't have a Quirk," Midoriya answered which causes Holo-Tommy to face palm at the two idiots who told him. "I should have listened to Kacchan. I wouldn't be feeling the pain when All Might disagreed of me becoming a hero without a Quirk."
Holo-Tommy sighs in annoyance, "Midoriya, being a hero doesn't mean having superpowers. It means having the heart of one," Midoriya looks up with surprised expression. "You can become a hero if you put your heart to it." Midoriya was starting tear up after hearing that as he clenches his heart, "A true hero saves people and protect the world from threats. You don't need superpowers to tell you who you are meant to be."
"But... but..." Midoriya was in disbelief as the tears were flowing from his eyes.
"Take the morpher, young man, and you'll become a hero... and a Ranger," Midoriya looks at the Master Morpher and hesitantly grabs it from the ground. "As our theme song says, 'Go Go Power Ranger'."
Midoriya firmly grips at the morpher as it glowed green to register the boy as the new wielder of the Master Morpher, "I'm going to become a hero... and a Power Ranger!"
After the DNA registration, the mind of Midoriya was filled with all the previous Rangers' fights across 22 generations. Holo-Tommy smiles at the new Ranger before being temporarily deactivated from the morpher which leaves Midoriya to figure how to use the alien item. When he moves the broken oven out of his way, it went flying across the beach. He stares at his hands and realizes he has a Quirk because of the Master Morpher.
"I... have a Quirk," Midoriya smiles and clenches his fist. "I'm going to be a hero that saves people with a smile!" Midoriya looks at the morpher. "And I'm gonna honor the legacy of the past Rangers who have tragically died from Lord Drakkon," Midoriya stares at the ocean as the sun sets and smiles. "It's morphin' time!"
