"Ra–"
"Should I sit still and ignore everything you say?"
The girl chuckled, trickles of mock laughter interlaced between her breath felt like a pang of nails hammering down her heart. The pain felt surreal, even after years of running away and hiding herself, she never felt like this before. As if the sandcastle of trust she had painstakingly built had been trampled down with righteous reason she couldn't refute.
"I'm the one at fault. I shouldn't utter such nonsense"
"But it wasn't. It was the truth."
Ruby shakes her head frantically, her hand grabbing Raiene cloth, tightening the hold, scared by her own thoughts. "I'm sorry. Forgive me. Raiene, forgive me. I shouldn't have said that."
Like a corner beast she snarled, "But you did! And now I know! You can't expect me to sit still and ignore what you said, you can't expect me to nod at your guess without making my own."
