Chapter 19 - Rhea’s Love Life

Sigh!

I couldn't help but sigh out of frustration.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Rhea? Seriously. What's the matter?"

The girl prying is a close friend of mine. Her name is Leinani. We met in high school and became fast friends. We attended the same college. We even got our teaching certificates at the same time. Now, we're both poised to start working at this prestigious private school in the fall.

So, why was I sighing? Simple. I was lonely.

I couldn't just tell Leinani that though. The reason I was lonely was all her fault anyway. If she hadn't got in my head about my ex, I'd still have a boyfriend.

I wanted to glare at her. But I didn't.

She's my friend. I'm sure she had my best interest at heart. But why did she have to tell me all of that stuff about Greg?

Greg and I had been dating for 4-months. He wasn't the nicest guy in the world. But he was still my boyfriend. We had fun together. Granted, he only seemed interested in having fun at 2 in the morning because he was so busy during the day. But that's just because he was a night owl.

Well…at least that's what I told myself.

Leinani kept pestering me about him. She kept telling me that he was shady. She kept telling me that he was lying.

I didn't believe her. I liked Greg, a lot. I believed him when he said that he had to work. Or when he told me that he had obligations with his friends or family.

I didn't mind being with him in the dead of the night because I like him that much.

I wish I wasn't so foolish. I wish I wasn't so trusting.

This might come as a shock to you, but Greg was cheating on me the entire time.

No. That's not quite accurate.

I was the one with whom he was cheating.

He apparently had been in a long-term relationship for years. I was nothing to him. Nothing but a side-chick.

It broke my heart. I never went into any relationship in a half-assed way. I always gave my all. But it never seemed to be enough.

Some guys would cheat, like Greg.

Others would become violent. One guy hit me so hard that I had to go to the hospital. We were up drinking and I didn't know that he was such a mean drunk. I asked him to change the channel and he got mad because he was watching what was on the TV. That's all it took. He hit me over and over again. I was lucky to get out of there alive.

Others would be possessive. One guy tried to lock me in his basement. We were out shopping for Halloween candy, when this older guy passed by me and said something lewd. I ignored him, but my boyfriend at the time took it to mean that I was silently agreeing with that dirty old jerk. When we got back to his place, he said he wanted to show me something. I went down into the basement with him and he tried to tie me up to the metal support beam.

Others would steal from me. One guy I'd been seeing for a few weeks "borrowed" my purse one night. I didn't know it until a month later when he ghosted me. Shortly after that I started receiving all of these calls from creditors. He's opened several accounts in my name. It took a while to get all of that cleared up with the credit bureaus.

I'm what you'd call a loser magnet. But what can I do? I'm a romantic. I love love. I love being in love. I love giving my heart to a person. I just know that one day, I'm going to find someone who will return these feelings. I know that my soulmate is out there.

He's probably a 6-foot-tall heath care worker with a big cock and impressive stamina.

I was drooling as I imagined my perfect lover.

Crap! I'm so horny!

Nice. Now I'm lonely and horny. Thanks, Leinani!

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Like what?"

"Like I pissed in your cereal." Leinani smiled. She was so pretty. I wish I had her skin tone. Her long black hair was so silky. Her body was perfect. Also…no one ever confused her with a grade schooler!

Okay. I might have a small complex about how young I look. I still get carded even though I'm 23! All of my friends look like adults. But then there's me. I look like I should be attending high school. Not teaching it.

Whatever! Nothing I can do about it.

"Hey!"

"Hey! What are you 2 up to?"

Son of a bitch! Just when I was getting ready to bury my feelings of inferiority, two shining examples of modern beauty walked into the room.

Simone and Sierra are the two girls that Leinani and I are closest with. We met in college. We all had the same major, so we had a lot of the same classes. Only Leinani, Sierra and myself will be professors in the fall. Our areas of expertise are Language, Mathematics, and Literature; respectively. Sierra will be a teacher's aide. She majored in History. Apparently, this school already has a hotshot History professor. Simone is going to shadow her.

I was surprised when she took that position. She's a pretty decisive and smart girl. But she looked at it as gaining more experience for when she got a class of her own. I couldn't look down on her humility.

Anyway, they stood in the doorway, looking stunning. They looked like they were both ripped out of a page of Cosmopolitan magazine. Simone's flawless ebony skin looked like the type of dark chocolate you could sink your teeth into. She was leggy and confident. Her natural hair was full and vibrant. It made my hair seem straw-like and lifeless. Sierra's tanned skin and ash-blonde hair was enchanting. She was thin but had curves in all the right places. Her curly hair and emerald-colored eyes made all the boys go wild.

I don't swing that way. But if I did, I was sure that they'd be number 2 and 3 on my list—right after Leinani.

They came in and pulled up a chair. Leinani smiled, "I don't know. Rhea's acting like I just kicked her dog."

Sierra leaned in, "Are you still upset about that jerk?"

Everyone always referred to Greg like he was a horrible person. Maybe he had a good reason for what he did. They don't know! Maybe he wanted to be with me, but was just having a hard time breaking it off with his other girlfriend. You can't just throw away years of a relationship on a whim.

Besides, he was so good in bed.

Oh man! I should've been more understanding.

I felt horrible. When I found out he was a cheater, I dumped him. Maybe I acted prematurely.

I should call him.

Yeah. That's what I'll do.

I couldn't do it when they were around though. Knowing Leinani, she'd take my phone and flush it down the toilet before she'd let me call him. All I needed was a little time alone and I could give him a quick shout.

"I'm…umm going to go for a walk."

"A walk?" Simone eyed me up and down.

"Where to?" Sierra leaned in, smiling mysteriously.

"By yourself?" Leinani's eyebrows creased. She probably saw right through me.

But it was too late to back out now. Otherwise, they'd know I was up to something.

"Yeah. By myself. I just want to check out the campus. We're only here for a few weeks, then we have to go home. I want to get used to the place."

"Uh huh." Leinani was glaring at me.

I caved. "What?"

"You're not going anywhere alone."

"Why not?"

They all glared at me. I knew where this was headed.
