Chapter 4 - 4. Family.

Penn had just sat down at the table. he was sitting in a small room off the kitchen area, their house had 4 small rooms, the kitchen and dining area, a little living room that thier father had taken over as a work space, and two bedrooms, their father had a small cot in the living area that he slept in, but he would generally only unfold it when it was time to go to bed. he had papers and maps all over the place and it always looked like a mess.

Penn's father, Parker Carval worked in the mayors office. His biggest responsibility was making sure the routes between forts were safe. It wasn't very easy to get from one place to another, but he did a pretty good job keeping updated information about the routes. He was even able to hire Penn from time to time. He had a good reputation as a map maker.

Ellie his little sister and Tom just walked in from the yard. Ellie had been out in the street playing with the neighbors before dinner. everyone sat down at the table, there was a small peice of bread, a rich, wonderful smelling vegitable stew, and a chunk of white cheese in front of each person.

There was also a small skull sitting in the middle of the table, it was from a Bones that was once a fox.

Each person at the table reached out with thier left hand towards the skull as if warding off evil, made a gesture with thier right hand across thier chest and brought both hands to rest in thier lap.

Tom asked about what happened while Penn was away.

Penn told his story, he explained about how he ran into the buck and was surprised to see the sharps on it. Because of this Penn had been curious and decided to try to set a trap at the pass through the valley.

While the buck was leaving the valley Penn thought he caught a glimpse of a gap in the armour but wasn't sure because he was too far away. so he followed it, and started drawing what he saw, and was eventually able to confirm the flaw.

Everyone waited until Penn was finished, and then Penns father put his wooden fork down.

"This beast would fetch a fair price if you sold the information to a noble. But what if you took this to the hunters in town? they can't afford this type of thing so they may be willing to make a deal." said Penns father.

Penns father explained what he meant and Penn started to get excited.

Tom said he thought it was a good idea too, at least it wouldn't hurt to try.

He offered to come along to make sure everything went smoothly. He would have to talk to his fellow guards, but he was sure he could get some time away front the gates.

Penn explained that he had been considering taking the information to Clara's brother Dawn, and Tom agreed, he thought that was an excellent idea.
