I carefully made my way to the admin's office.extra careful not to bump into anyone cause thats the clichiest of cliches .
i got to the admin's office and he was quite nice with a slight lisp.he gave me a class and a schedule and also the schools instructional manual which included the school rules and regulations.i thanked him and headed off to my class.i liked the schools structure and patterns.the staffroom block was at the entrance of the school and every other classroom and special classes also had their different blocks too .the school was more than i expected:spacious,beautiful flowers,magnificent tree's that provided a perfect shade.i love it,cos its nature.and I love nature.
Well it's now the rush hour cos the final bell had gone.i kinda felt bad that i didn't have enough time to explore.i made it a promise to myself to make up for it by coming to school earlier tomorrow.i hurriedly searched for my class. After a few turns here and there i found it.i suck in a breath here goes nothing
Face down ,I carefully made my way into the class, i look up to met so many facial expressions:happy,arrogant,calm,
gloomy.....
Not many noticed me and i was glad for that cos i dont know what i would do if all attention was on me,maybe beg mother earth to swallow me right away. i gently made my way to an empty seat at the front just beside the front door.i looked over to the left to see who gonna be my seat neighbour and she was a girl,a pretty one and she didnt notice me tho,she was quite busy with some papers that spread across her table.
well,lessons started soon after and every thing was going fine until after agric class.according to my timetable,after agric was maths.once after the agric teacher signed out,the maths teacher came in.he looked quite young of a teacher.the class greeted and he reciprocated our greetings.then he wrote the topic of the day thus:quadratic equation boldly on the board.he then wrote down a problem and asked if anyone could solve it.i smiled to myself inwardly.that was the last topic we discussed in my former school.A few people raised their hands,i didn't though. i didnt want to showoff on my firstday.
thoughts about this took me back to how this new girl in my former school disgraced herself all in a bid to showoff.
i snapped out of my thoughts when i noticed everywhere was quiet.i looked around to see everyones eyes on me.i almost had a panic attack.i already know what it is. I summoned courage and instinctively stood up.
"You must be the new student,come and solve this for me"the teacher said.so i walked over to him.my steps seemed quite bold,bolder than i expected.with a bit of a shaky_ sweaty hand, i took the chalk from the teacher who was busy giving me wierd and strange looks. I ignored him and turned to board ,avoiding eye contacts with anyone,,,,,,,,for safety reasons.
As i was about to start something,i heard a voice say thus:"sir,its no use cos she cant solve it so I'd like to show her how its done"i turned towards the direction of the voice.it was a guy wearing a cocky smirk on his face.i hated him immediately.I hated him immediately,i would have given him an equal bash for suggesting that i was a dummy but i wasn't one with much words and even if i could,not in class cos i wouldn't want to give off the impression that i was sassy when i wasn't.
So the teacher said "Dave Matthewson,I'd advice you sit down or you get out of my class"the smirk on his face disappeared and an angry expression replaced as he looked at like a hungry lion would at its prey.i in return I shoot him my very best deadly glare ever.
He hesitated before sitting down.i turned around and started solving the problem. careful not to make any mistakes.soon i was done. everywhere Eerie.
Didn't I get it right?
I was scared, if I failed to solve it correctly then I'd just beg the earth to swallow me. as these wild thoughts were blasting in my head the teacher spoke up."give me the chalk and explain what you did".this is it, I've failed woefully in making what I call not_so_Sassy_or_showy-off
impression.I gulped real hard and cleared my throat unaudibly before I started explaining, soon I was done when I finished I handed the chalk to the teacher and as i was about to go to my seat awkwardly......
Then the teacher ordered the students
To give me a round of applaud.
i sighed a sigh of relief finally.
"Please introduce yourself to us" the teacher added.i looked up,25 bright eyes were on me.
You can do this Kathie,you just have to do it like no one's watchin
"Hi everyone,my name's Katherine-mary Maxwell, am a new student and i Hope you treat me as one.....i added as remembered someone rude earlier. Thank you"i said .
Mind you,all i said didn't come out as bold as i seems.
Let's just say am good at being a shy nerd😄.
I walked to my seat,then the
teacher said"you're welcome to our school Kathie,feel free to ask the class captain over there if you're confused about anything"he indicated towards a someone,i suppose was the class prefect...guess
Mr dave.
He even had a bigger smirk this time than before.
I rolled my eyes .
Dave spoke" Kathie, feel to ask me anything.i can even lend you some of my notes so you could catchup and.....I had to cut him off there by saying
"oh thats so nice of you(note the sarcasm) but that wont be necessary"
I wonder where that boldness came from .
He didn't say anything anymore. But
You could tell her was pissed.
He was doing the clenching and uncleching jaw shit¡¡¡
Serves him right though.
lessons went down and soon it was over.after two more subjects, breaktime came by people started rushing out
.....to the cafeteria I guess but I stayed back even though I felt the urge to explore the new school my legs and body didn't concur with my head ....
