(A little ways down the road... pathway? forest? you get it)
A funny scene is playing out before Dorn, the stone giant. Fayna was still being chased by the that lady turned wolf person. Smiling at this, after pondering over his own issue, Dorn says, "Sister Tali, the little lady's legs will start hurting soon if you keep chasing after her." Saying this, he laughs out loud.
Hearing the Dorn, the person she should be guiding, laughing at her prediciment, a mischievous plan forms in her head as she was running away from her friend.
Running in a few more circles, she shifts direction by backflipping off a tree. Talia seeing this, spent no time skidding to a stop before bounding off towards Fayna again. She was getting close too. If one were to pay attention, they would probably see a faint smile form on the wolf as she was getting close to Fayna.
Which would have been fine, but all of a sudden Fayna disappeared from her sight.
Fayna had been ahead of her for one second, then Fayna stomped on the ground hard with her right foot. A faint image could be seen of her disappearing to Talia's left, almost as if it was an after image, even though Talia new it was just a trick of her eye sight. She didn't have much time to ponder the thought, as she comes crashing into a stone wall.
Well, more stone skin then wall as she fully crashes into Dorn's side. Dorn grunts in pain, as a wolf with horns just crashed into his side. It was painful enough to be felt, but not enough to injure him. It was pretty close though.
"Ow," was the only thing he said as he looked to his left. 15 feet away, Fayna could be seen with slight persperation on her brow as she is laughing at her two compatriots. "Hah! Bet you didn't expect that did you Tali, and Dorn! You should see the look on your face!"
She continues to laugh, almost to the point of rolling on the floor. Denden, along with a few other of the small nature spirits, laugh also. Faint sounds of bells chiming sound through the air.
The wolf, after shaking its head a few more times, starts backing up from Dorn. As it does, so the form of the wolf loses itself as it stands on its hind legs, that start to shift back into the familiar black dressed figure of Talia.
Almost as if the earlier incident of her crashing into the legs of Dorn, didn't happen, her face was the picture of tranquil.
"You learned the "Burst" technique?" Talia asked her fellow schoolmate.
"Burst" was one of the many physical technique that you could learn at Enendale academy.
It was a demanding skill, that traded stamina for an equal amount of speed. Used the right way, it could even be a sustained state, that would boost your speed for a duration of time. That would require a high level of mastery over the technique though.
Physical techniques and Magic were the norm in the world. Asides from techniques that come from elsewhere, bloodline, etc. it is not uncommon to see the two skills in the world.
At least, for those who had the talent, persistence, and constitution to do so. Some are born into this world and can't ever cast a single spell, or even withstand the demand that physical techniques require.
Even though technically, anyone can learn these techniques, that is only if they could meet there requirements to use them.
Some could be born and grow up to be able to knockout a person bigger themselves with a single punch, but that wouldn't be from a technique. That would be a trait one has because that's just how they were born into this world.
A dragon could breath fire, but that is just an inherent trait. Techniques are different then traits. Techniques can be learned from practically anywhere.
Although usually taught, it isn't out of the realm of possibility for someone to learn a technique from watching a dragon breathe fire. Through magical or physical means, you could imitate it to form a technique.
How one would do that is another question on its own.
Physical techniques require the users body to meet its requirements. Whether that be from stamina, the strength one has, etc. Don't think of physical techniques to be only things like going faster from the use of the Burst technique or even just a capability that allows you to punch harder.
There are techniques that almost mimic magic, like "Second Wind."
This is a skill that speeds up the body's natural healing process to supernatural levels. Allowing one to go recover from even near death states. Or even the physical techniques that allows one to grow larger or smaller. There are more physical techniques that seem almost magical in its uses.
Magical spells or effects drain the user's source of magic, wherever that may be from. It could be from one's own self, a deity, etc. Some magic technique could even drain you physically also.
Just like physical techniques , there are many variations of them. In theory, there could be an infinite amount of skills out there.
Even technique that are the same can be different in others hands though. The same magic skill, like the Fireball technique , could be more volatile in one persons hand, while in another user's hands, the skill could cover a wider range then the other. Same could be said for physical skills.
All these skills could be taught or learned by oneself or from others. Seeing that Fayna had learned the Burst skill, Talia could see the path that Fayna is heading towards.
Wiping the sweat of her brow, Fayna laughed out loud. "You should see your guy's faces!" She was laughing, but that skill really did take a little out of her. She had just met the requirement of using the skill last week after training her body to handle it. Not only did she have to build up the necessary muscles to do it, she wanted to train her legs more so she could use the skill more her style.
The feeling of the Burst skill, to her could only be described as one thing to her. 'Freedom,' she had thought when she had first used the skill. Physical skills were a strange thing. One could even say it is harder to explain how it works then magical skills. Most physical skills not only require one to have the body to meet the demands of the skill, but the mastery of the certain breathing method to it. Almost all physical skills had one.
For the Burst skill, the breathing method accompanied with it, allows one to speed the blood flow to an accelerated rate. Allowing one to move at an instantaneous pace for the duration the blood flow had increased. When she had used it, Fayna had enjoyed the feeling of watching the world around her slow down. She enjoyed the fact that the few steps she took, felt like there were miles in between each step. It felt like she was flying.
Feeling this control and power she had in her body, she knew, at least for now, that she wanted to train her physical skills. She doesn't know how far she will go, but she knew what training to be able to use higher levels of physical skills meant.
Some say that if you reach a certain level, one would be able to full control of their body and dictate what it could do. Whether that be hardening the skin and muscles so one could resist the sharpest of swords, or the capability of suppressing others with the sheer aura of one's body.
All these are pure physical skills accomplished by pure manipulation and control of one's own body. This doesn't even touch upon the concept of Ki that some physical skill users use to supplement their abilities.
That's just how the laws of the world work. Fayna paid no mind to that though. She just wanted to learn as much as she could and follow her dream. She remembers the day she learned the skill. She had been out training in the rain behind her living space.
When she finally succeeded, she had nearly drained all her stamina and strength from doing so. Falling to the ground with tears in her eyes, she said out loud to nobody. "I'm closer."
Shaking her head from her stupor, she stares at Dorn and wants to say something when she notices his face scrunch up as he sniffs the air towards her right. Glancing at Talia with a confused look, she looks back again at Dorn.
Dorn had just been about to retort to the little lady, when he smelt it. The scent of multiple beings within the forest that didn't belong to him, the ladies, or the dead kobolds. He had just stood up towards the direction of the smell when, "TING!" The sound of metal on metal as Dorn brandishes his glaive to block an arrow shot towards his head.
Talia and Fayna immediately get crouch down to make themselves smaller just like they learned in class. Dorn, smashing his fist with the glaive to his chest, he yells, "Show yourselves!"
