"What is happening?!" Jacob muttered as he locked the door of the bakery.
A huge portion of the walls were made of glass so he didn't feel safe. It was said that they could withstand heavy force, but Jacob didn't believe it.
Suddenly, he heard people screaming.
He stood behind the glass wall and stared at the situation outside.
People were running frantically in all directions, screaming in terror.
"Aahhh!!"
"He killed someone!"
"Don't move or we'll shoot you!"
"Stop!"
Jacob saw the police aiming their guns at a middle-aged man dressed in a black suit. It was the same person he saw that has a flower-like thing on his nape.
The man's face was covered in blood. His emotionless eyes looked entirely unbothered by the guns pointed at him.
"I'm warning you! Put your hands above your head!" One of the police issued another warning. Meanwhile, the other police officers surrounded the man, blocking off all his escape paths.
Not far from them, the paramedics were tending to the wounds of a woman who seemed to be the victim of the man's aggression.
Her neck was bleeding profusely.
The paramedics tried their best to stop the bleeding as they brought her to an ambulance.
"Urgahh!! Ggrrhh!" The man in a black suit growled at the police officers while revealing his bloody mouth.
Jacob who was watching this scene felt goosebumps all over his body. "Just what is going on?"
While he stood there dumbfounded, the situation outside became more serious.
The man suddenly pounced at the nearest police officer.
"Stop!" The police officers yelled at him.
They didn't really plan on firing their guns.
They only wanted to intimidate the man to make him give up and surrender. However, things didn't seem to be going well and one of their comrades was even pushed down by the man.
The police officers grabbed the man and tried to pull him away from their comrade, but he suddenly displayed unnatural strength that made them unable to move him.
"Urgaah!!! Ggrrr!!" The man opened his mouth and sank his teeth into the police officer's shoulder.
"Ahh! Get him off me!" The police officer shouted as he pushed the man away.
"What are you doing?!" The police officers were furious.
They became more forceful in their approach. One of them tried to choke the man, hoping that this would stop his aggression. However, he seemed to be unaffected by this.
"You guys step back! I'll take care of this!" The victimized police officer shouted through gritted teeth. He grabbed his gun and aimed at the person above him.
Seeing this, the other police officers hesitated, but they didn't say anything. There seemed to be a silent agreement between them.
Bang! Bang!
The police officer shot the man twice, but to everyone's surprise, nothing happened to him. His mouth was still glued on the police officer's shoulder.
In his rage, the police officer aimed his pistol at the man's head and fired another shot.
Bang!
A red mist exploded from his head before his body slumped lifelessly over the police officer.
Jacob's eyes widened. "They are killing people?" He muttered in disbelief. His heartbeat quickened as fear gripped his chest.
Jacob quickly moved away from the glass wall. He then grabbed his bag and went to the storage room, feeling slightly disoriented.
It was the first time he had seen someone being shot at close distance.
Jacob tried to erase the image in his mind as he sat in the corner trying to figure out what he should do next. Going out was out of the question since the situation outside was messed up. He didn't want to get involved in whatever was happening out there.
While he was gathering his wits, a series of gunshots echoed across the street.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Jacob's body jolted in shock. His fear intensified. He didn't know what prompted the police officers to open fire, but whatever it was, he knew that the situation had worsened.
"I can't sit here and wait for death!" He took a deep breath as he stood up.
"There is a fire axe beside the lockers." Jacob's eyes flashed. Every store was required to have fire safety equipment in case of emergency. The bakery has a fire axe and some emergency supplies like a first aid kit and fire extinguisher.
Jacob felt that a global crisis was brewing so he needed a weapon to keep himself safe.
He opened the safety box and grabbed the fire axe and first aid kit. He then grabbed his phone and checked if there was any news about the incident.
Upon checking his social media, he saw numerous posts about people displaying aggressive behavior. This was similar to what was happening outside.
Some people claimed that this was the coming of the zombie apocalypse.
Jacob thought that it was ridiculous, but upon thinking deeply, he realized that it actually made sense.
"No way!" He shook his head with an incredulous expression.
The local government also posted guidelines for the public to follow. They also mentioned something about the virus, but there was no concrete information about it.
"Help! Open the door! Help!" He heard a desperate shout outside the bakery.
"Help! I know someone is in here! Please!"
Jacob furrowed his eyebrows as he went out of the storage room.
He saw a woman dressed in a navy blue chiffon blouse and a white short skirt. She was banging on the door with a distraught look on her face.
Jacob hesitated when he saw her. He wanted to help her, but he was afraid that this woman was infected with the virus.
The woman noticed Jacob inside the store and she cried out for help. "Please open the door! I beg you! They are coming!"
Jacob carefully observed the woman. She didn't appear to be injured. Her hair was slightly disheveled and her makeup was in a mess, but other than that, there was nothing out of the ordinary.
"Have you been bitten?" He asked in a stern voice.
The woman stared at him and quickly shook her head. "No!"
Hearing this, Jacob opened the door and grabbed the woman inside. After pulling her inside, he inspected her from head to foot.
"Turn around!" He sternly told the woman.
The woman complied without saying anything and turned her back on him.
Jacob checked her nape.
When he saw that there was nothing, he heaved a sigh of relief.
