It has been three or four days since I ordered my headset and game, and honestly I kind of forgot about it until just now. When I got home from work today I saw two boxes outside my door and I was confused at first but as soon as I picked one up I knew. This is it! This is what I've been waiting for. Immediately I feel better even after my long day at my two jobs and I bring in my new gear.
I will take with me to the grave the amount of time it took me to figure out how to set up my VR headset...
The VR headset says that your body will get the same effect of sleeping while in the game but just enough brain activity stays active so your brain basically tricks your body into thinking you are exercising and you burn calories that way (has been scientifically proven to be [theoretically] possible). I finally got it set up and the first thing I realize is that... the first time connection feels SUPER disorienting.
I turned on the headset with it on my head and laying down on my bed and then all the sudden everything is spinning and I'm falling. Then as suddenly as it all started I am standing in a library with an elderly butler standing before me looking around amused.
"So, you feel the most comfortable surrounded by books, and yet you have entered the world of technology. You are an interesting one," is all the butler says as I regain my footing.
"Hold on, where are we? Who are you? I thought I was just gonna play a video game, chawn tern?" I try to pronounce the word that I had only seen so far.
The butler chuckles and say, "Of course, let me answer your questions. First, we are in a room that changes to be the most comfortable for the player as I describe the rules of this universe. This universe is the universe of Chantern (pronounced kawn turn), Realms of Chaos. Second I am the advanced AI that works with the coding team to keep this world ever expanding. I am designated 90387, but you may call me whatever you wish for we most likely will never meet each other again. As for the last part, yes this is Chantern, Realms of Chaos, but there are some rules that must be followed otherwise your character will be deleted and your profile will be banned from our servers."
"U-um... Okay. Yeah I like libraries... Okay, what are the rules, Nine Oh Three?" I ask, a little overwhelmed by the information overload but excited to get into the game.
"First is that if you find any glitches or cheats we would like you to report them, but if we catch you abusing them you will be deleted and banned. Second is if you purposefully teach modern technology to this world you will be deleted and banned. Third if you spam call the coding team or myself without reason more than 5 times you will be deleted and reset to level one, and if you do so more than 10 times you will be banned from our servers. Fourth and finally, if you sexually harass another player intentionally then you will be deleted and banned. And with the VR headsets attached to your brain we can tell when you intend to. Anything else goes unless said otherwise by an official member of Chaos Corps. (the name of the company that made Chantern)." The butler rattled off the list of rules but somehow I understood all of them.
"Okay, I get it. Well the technology one is the least sensible one but it would ruin how the game is built as of now so I get it. Also how do classes and races work?" I ask hopefully.
"Yes, for example space travel when we don't even have other planets implemented would be... an issue. Also classes don't exist in this game, and race is entirely dependent on your personality. There are, however, focuses that you get access to at various levels, the first being at level 10, that allows you to be gain boons, but also gain detriments to something else. That being said there are three races that are races that you must BECOME, rather than being spawned in as them. I can tell you that one of these races is the Celestial race, but the other two haven't been discovered yet by players." Responded the nine oh three.
"Okay, I am ready to start whenever you are ready to send me off, thank you for your help." I say, thoroughly excited.
Nine oh Three said, "Okay, you will spawn in a random location with a random race in 3... 2... 1... SPAWNING." And the room is replaced by a blinding light and I feel the weird disorienting feeling again.
When the light faded, I found myself on a road outside of what looked to be a medieval city. It was advanced enough to have it's own stone walls with towers and ramparts, but medieval enough that there didn't seem to be riflemen on the ramparts, however there were plenty of bowmen and crossbowmen. Before I even had a chance to start moving towards the town, a system prompt appeared before me.

Chaos welcomes you, realm-walker.
Since this universe does not restrict you via classes, and therefore you don't get a starter class, you can choose to take a survey to determine the type of skill, ability, spell, or similar "class" ability you will gain. If you choose not to take they survey, you will instead gain 10 free stat points.
Would you like to take the survey?
Obviously I chose to take the survey. I understand that having more stat points could be helpful, but, while I had a sword in real life, I wasn't confident in my ability to fight in melee combat. I had much more experience with bows and guns, and learning magic would be more fun than hitting something with a sword, axe, or club.

Survey!
1.) Given the choice, would you prefer physical, chemical, or magical skill/s?]
After hesitating to consider, I decided on magic since I could learn physical and, potentially, chemical skills in real life, so I might as well have the fun of magic while I can. A keyboard showed up so I carefully typed out, "I would prefer magical skills, then physical, then chemical in that order."

2.) Given the choice, would you prefer offensive, defensive, auxiliary, or healing magical abilities?]
I hesitated even longer this time as I thought about it. Do I want to go full battlemage and destroy armies with a wave of my hand, or do I want to go necromancer who can give a single command and bring down kingdoms? Maybe, if I'm feeling particularly sadistic, I could choose torture mage- I mean, healer! I sighed and said, "System, with the information that has been discovered by players, what is more powerful, offensive magic, or necromancy in Chantern, Realms of Chaos?"
[Ding!
"It is hard to say what is more powerful. Leonald the 'Fire mage king,' and Serena the, 'Skeletal queen of the damned,' are fairly equally matched, however Serena would most likely win the fight as she has more money to purchase mana potions, and therefore would outlast Leonald's magic reserves." - SnotNosedKid69420 on WatchedIt]
I groaned and mumbled to myself, "Of course there wouldn't be a clear answer. I guess if they're equal, I would rather be able to do things myself, so I will go with offensive magic."
After the keyboard popped back up, I typed, "Given the choice, I would choose Offensive magic, Auxiliary magic, Healing magic, then Defensive magic, in that order."

3.) Given the choice, would you prefer fire, earth, wind, or water elemental offensive skills?]
I didn't hesitate this time and typed in, "Given the choice from these four elements, I would choose fire, wind, water, then earth, in that order. However, if I were to choose any element, I would choose lightning if it exists."

4.) Given the choice, would you save a group of children from an imp, or save a group of adults from a band of demons. Answer this assuming that you had the power to save either group, but not both.]
I frowned and typed in, "I'm not sure about this universe, but in most universes imps are weak, pathetic little demons or devils that hold almost no power compared to other demons. My answer depends on the type of demons attacking the adults. If they're a band of imps, then a grown adult should be able to take care of it themselves and I would save the children, however if they're a stronger type of demon, then I would need to take care of that threat before they start to destroy Chantern. A group of children may be able to take out an imp if they're as pathetic as most imps are from other games, however a band of demons is dangerous."

5.) Given the choice, would you rather kill someone you love to save a hundred innocent people, or let the hundred innocent people die to save the person you love?]
I gritted my teeth and typed, "I'd rather kill the person I love, however you'll be hard pressed to find someone I love."

6.) Given the choice, would you rather destroy all of your enemies at once, or take the time to kill them one by one?]
I sighed in relief as this was much less personal to me, before typing, "It depends. I like tough fights in games, however if there are a lot of low level enemies, then I would rather take them all out in one go, and even if there are a lot of high level enemies, I would rather kill them all at the same time. Now, if there were about 10 mini-bosses and a boss, then I would like to take my time and enjoy fighting them all one by one."

Skill: Spell - Fire bolt: Shoots a bolt of fire (shaped like a crossbow bolt) at an enemy that does minimal damage compared to other fire spells, however is quite strong for a starter skill. Average fire element fire spell - Ember: shoots a small ember at a target that deals minimal damage, and is mostly an irritant.]
I smiled and thought, 'Hey, I got a pretty good starting skills, well spell. I wonder what else I have going for me? Status!' I decided to check if I could open my status without saying it out loud, and to my pleasant surprise, it worked.
