Chapter 10 - James and the Town of Brook

James studied the village and noticed it combines 18th—to 19th-century architecture with modern development. For instance, instead of cobbled or brick streets, the roads were cement-type with a swage system in place, not to mention the powerlines connecting all the houses. The houses themselves were brick and stone with modern glass for windows, and the doors were sturdy wood. It was like looking at a town that decided to upgrade from the 19th century to the 21st century. Picture Cape May, New Jersey. But the entire village

James was looking for a snack as he was a little hungry. Moving around the town, not many people glanced or stared at him. A few people did a double-take, but it was more out of interest than anything else. James then noticed a stand with what looked to be dried meat for sale. Saliva entered his mouth. He swallowed strongly, and his body instantaneously turned and, at a fast pace, B-lined for the food stand. Asking the person behind the stall, "How much is it for how much?" James asked quicker than the man could greet him. Laughing hard, the man behind the stall said, "For you! I will give you 20 pieces for 2 silver!" James took out a gold coin. The man, eyes wide, smiled, pulled out a shaker, and proceeded to shake the powder on the dried meat.

Arranging the rest in a plastic airtight bag and handing one piece to James. James nodded to the man and, with a serious face, bit and tore off half of the first piece of meat. Immediately, a savory flavor popped into his mouth, and then a salty hint of spice mixed with the taste of the meat. It started to melt in his mouth, and the meat became softer as he chewed. It was probably the best-dried meat he had in a while. In his last life, he tried all the jerky he could find. And now, in this world with no giant industry, all of this world's food should be fresh, local products every day!

James with tears in his heart. Finished the other half of the meat. Immediately, he looked at the man with a serious expression and asked, "What animal is this? How long will it stay preserved, and how much is a bag of spice? The man behind the stall looked back with the smile of a merchant." the animal is Cervus." James smiled at that; James knew Latin, which they call deer. From GOD's knowledge, James understood that most people learned English, but it was a broken English with a lot of Latin for some words.

He knew the merchant knew the word deer, but the choice was Cervus. He must be trying to get my attention. The merchant is still talking," and it will last for around 30 days until the flavor will lose out, but as for safety, if you store it properly and no moisture gets to it, 60 days," and the spice... Depends on your job class. As long as you're not trying to duplicate it, I can give you as much as you can pay, but an airtight bag like the one I already gave you. Let's say... 1 silver." James smiled, showed his ID card to the merchant, and put down a gold coin.

The merchant froze; he didn't think James had that much money. But he quickly recovered. "I can give you 90 pieces and 2 bags. Plus, the ones you have now for a gold coin." James believed the deal was not too bad. It was lower than the original price. A gold coin is 10 silver. 10 silver is 10 copper; I had 10 gold coins, 100 silver, and 200 copper. Looking back at the merchant, James smiled and said, "I will throw in 5 copper coins if you can tell me where a decent spot to rest for the night is." James laid down the coppers.

The man smiled as he started to fill the order. After looking at the ID card for a few seconds. "well, decent is the Dusk Tavern. It's nice with good food and a strong drink. But if you want the best, that would be the Golden Light." James smirked. The Golden Light is where the calvary unit is staying. There's no way I'm going there. As he trusted the merchant with the Dusk Tavern, he received the order and placed it in his bag. "Thanks, Sir. I will be off. May the light favor you." James said the custom goodbye response to Ferida.

The merchant responded, "And may the light guide you." James headed off and began to look for essential supplies. He noticed a store with some daily necessities he did not have. Well, these are necessities that would improve his mental health. Hygiene, gear, camping, survival, the system can provide him with a few items that are not available, like ammo, and if any of his gear is damaged, he can replace it. He asked if a store existed, but Cortana said it was an exchange system.

James said the store softly as a blue screen popped up. He looked over it and saw that the screen on the left side had all of his inventory to sell, and on the right, it said LV 1 store. A few items were for sale, but he had 0 points to spend. Looking at the list

He can put the items into the system for points. The better the items, the better the points. More items will appear when he discovers them. For example, he can't acquire a Shaping tent because he does not have a tent in his inventory. Walking into the store, James found plenty of items he needed. He glanced around and noticed there were not a lot of travel items. He approached the person behind the table and asked, "Do you know a good place to shop for travel items? As he laid down some items to buy.
