I watch as Cyrille, my childhood friend, chant to create a pair of golden large angel wings behind him. The magical air that surrounds him never ceases to amaze me. It's breath-taking. Dust of silver and gold fall down around him as the wind, that was normally colorless, turns into a bright light of white.
I'm sitting down on a bench while some of our classmates took notes of how to properly say the words in the chant Cyrille used.
I'm currently a Talato, a level in Magic School. I've been in the same level for a couple of years now. Cyrille's about to go up to Ahpta, the final and the highest level. That means, if he graduates, he can become an official mage in the kingdom and serve the royals.
I heard everyone praise Cyrille, their words travelled to him, and Cyrille gave them his same soft smile. His pair of wings opened wide, and his long hazel hair waved swiftly in the air. He's about to fly and show everyone how it's done properly and safely.
I'm now used to these magic and weird thing by now. But three years ago, even the sight of glowing wind freaked me out.
After I got into a car accident in my past world, I woke up in this place. A mystical place full of powers and magic. It did sweep me off my feet and I had to stay in bed for a week to process things.
It turns out, the owner of this body, Miss Lucette Orianne Duvalli, the one and only daughter of the Duke and Duchess Duvalli, has been sick for years and she was supposed to die the day I woke up in her body.
But one day, I woke up back in my original body in my past world and I thought I was just dreaming everything about this world, it turns out Miss Lucette and I switched places. When I became Miss Lucette, she became me, a mere human with no magical powers.
Surprisingly, we met in my dream and she begged me to switch with her again, she wants to be me again, in my plain magicless world. With her magical powers, she said she can switch back and forth if only I agree.
During that time, I've been in the magical world for a year and I'm used to everything. I can even socialize normally with her social circle.
Since I'm into other-worldly ideas, I accepted to switch with her. She said the normal world makes her burn in excitement and she wants to continue living in my original world.
The original Miss Lucette, who was supposed to die due to her illness, became me, a normal university student. I though it'll bore her to be me, to be in a world with no magic exists except for technology. But she even became too attached to my world, that after a few switching, she told me that she doesn't want to go back to her original world.
After saying those words, I never woke up in my original body again and I never saw her in my dreams again. And now, i'm stuck in this world.
Surprisingly, the people I know in my past world are here too in this world. The only difference is our relationship and their identity. My parents in the other world, are still my parents here. They're just the Duke and Duchess, and my mother, is a full-blooded mage. Cyrille, who in my past world was just an acquaintance, is now my childhood friend.
It was all fun and games before Miss Lucette decided to never switch places again. As someone who didn't grow up with magic, and can only remember bits from Miss Lucette's memory, I can't go against her. I tried to talk to her, but she's determined to live as me, and me to live as her.
"Lu, aren't you going inside? Everyone went back to the room."
I looked up, it's Cyrille, his soft gaze and soft smile was greeting me. His long hazel hair tied in a low ponytail always catches my attention first. His wings are now gone, making his back feel so empty.
Mages, especially men, usually have long hair. They said their hair stores their mana, but of course, that's not true. Most of the male student mages here have short hair now, but there are still students, like Cyrille, who keeps the tradition.
I stretched up my arms and yawned, "I'm so tired, Cy. I feel like my back's going to break."
My class yesterday focused on strength. We had to carry our own weight using our magic, but it's not my specialty. The magic that I used affected my body and the weight went back to me. It did feel like I was carrying myself. The magic was supposed to receive the weight but I failed.
"I can teach you how to balance the magic properly between your body and your mana if you want," Cyrille sat beside me and stretched his arms too.
"You know that I'm hard to teach. You can just focus on practicing for your exams. If you failed, you'll stay another year as a Talato."
If there's something that I can remember about Cyrille from Miss Lucette's memory, it's Cyrille's proposal to Miss Lucette. They were seventeen that time, and Miss Lucette's obsessed with learning magic because she's not that favorable. She didn't understand what kind of partnership Cyrille offered her, and accepted it. However, she stated that they'll forever be the best of the best friends. Cyrille understood what she meant, but I don't think he gave up that time.
And now, if I'm not wrong, and if I'm not assuming, there'll be a day where Cyrille will propose to me again.
He and Miss Lucette grew up in Magali Town in the country side of the kingdom, but they had to go here in Deni the capital of the Nevatilde Kingdom to study Magic.
When Miss Lucette was on her death bed, I can remember Cyrille crying his eyes out beside her bed. He really loves her and cares for her so much that her death even brought death to his eyes.
However, when I woke up in her body, Cyrille's face lighted up as if the heavens opened before him. Since then, he never left my side.
I'm supposed to be a third year university student in my world, only a year left and I'll be a teacher. I heard from Miss Lucette that she's enjoying being a university student and my course was perfect for her too. I was happy that we're completely alike, except that she's a mage and a daughter of a duke and I'm just a human.
"Why don't you summon Ori? He can heal your back, right?"
I looked at Cyrille when he mentioned Ori, the phoenix I summoned a month after I woke up in this world, and the reason why everyone pushed me to study magic more.
Miss Lucette's not that talented in magic. She can only use simple magic, such as making light things float, make fire out of the blue, and create water through air. Her magic was the most basic of all.
But when I got here, out of the sudden, after reading a chant I saw in her journal, I managed to summon the ancient symbol of magic, the phoenix with golden eyes and the darkest beak.
It's been decades since the phoenix was last summoned by a mage. Even the most powerful mages who correctly said the chant can't bring the bird out.
After that, another miraculous magic happened to me. I opened the gates to the temple of Siwathandu, a monster with an appearance similar to an octopus but with a body of a lion. It used to eat this world's lands, everything that his tentacles touch turns into a dark cold matter. No one can live around the things he touch.
My ability to open the gate was the greatest secret the mages hide. Even the Master Archmage keeps the information from the Emperor. They said I'll be assassinated if they find out. Of course, it's a threat. But why would I open it to let out Siwathandu? I don't have any reason to destroy the world.
It was the most terrifying moments of my life. I thought I was going to die when the gate opened. Thankfully, Siwathandu was sleeping that time, if not it would've took me inside the temple and devoured me. The temple was cold and dark, but there were tons of golds and jewels around the place. Even the most powerful staff, Makayfir, that is filled with unlimited mana, was hidden in that temple. Whoever holds that staff, will be the most powerful person in this world. They can do whatever they want. Whatever.
It's been three years since I woke up as Lucette Orianne Duvalli. I'm now studying to be a mage because of the mysterious performance I did during my first few days here.
I still do want to go back to my world, but this world feels like home to me now. I'm sure Miss Lucette will tell me if she wants to go back here again, but since it's been years since we last saw each other, I'm sure she's treating my world as her home now too.
Even though I didn't grow up in this world, it feels oddly warm when I first came here. It's as if nothing changed, except that I'm not in my body.
New mysteries continue to unfold as time passes by, and I'm sure if ever I go back to my own world, I'll be bringing millions of fun memories.
