As he made his way through the square stopping at a stall he bought some meat skewers and light ale. After thinking about it he realized it was the first real meal he had in a while. Walking coin still in hand he looked forward to quiet of the temple.
As he continued his walk he realized that he had be griping the the coin so tight that it cut his hand a bit. He winced as he loosened his grip a bit.
"I guess I'm worrying a lot more than I thought". He said to himself.
Walking through square he stopped to look in the window of one of the craft shops. He could see the screens and displays of rings and stones you could buy. They had different skills depending on the magic you could use. The blend of technology had made it possible for even normal people to use some basic magic.
But using magic for attacking someone was forbidden and punished harshly except for defense. But most did not have access this this kind of magic. There were so many things that he wanted to buy. But the question was how and not be seen as suspicious. He decided to enter the shop and look around.
Upon entering the shop keeper looked at him. "Do you have any money or are you just here to waste time?" Said the shop keep.
Arryn palming the coin he reached in his pocket and showed that he had a wallet.
"As long as you're here to buy."
Still unsure of the boy in front of him. He introduced himself "I'm Prim. What are you looking for? If you can't find it in my shop I can get it or it doesn't exist." He said Proudly
"I'm Arryn. As to what I'm looking for I don't know to be honest."
"Well look around you never know what you might find. If you see anything let me know." Said Prim
Looking around the shop he knew there were not many things he could afford until he figured out how to change the platinum. He placed the plat in his pocket while he was in the shop as not to draw any attention.
He settled on looking a the shelf that that seemed to not get much use. There were the small rows of rings. None were fancy or made of valuable metal but they were nice none the less. He settled for one that was white. It looked like it had little bones interlinked and a small skull. The were two stones set in the eye sockets, one white and the other black. It was nice even if it was a little plain.
He brought the ring to the front. "How much for this one?" He asked
Prim turned around and took the ring with a puzzled look on his face.
"Hmmm" he thought
"Let me check its magic level and I'll be able to give you a price." said Prim
He set the ring on the counter and pulled out a large leather mat with runes engraved on it. He placed the ring in the center and infused a little mana and the runes began to glow. He studied the ring and after a few minutes the stopped glowing.
Arryn had never seen this before and wondered if he would ever be able to learn anything like that.
"It will be six silvers for this ring, but let me tell you what I can about this ring.
Arryn was hesitant about using one if his golds. But decided that it would be ok as he had never gotten anything for himself and he would get change back in silvers that he could use to get coppers.
He reached down as if to scratch his foot in the boot. While doing so he palmed a gold in his hand. Prim smiled and laughed inside. He knew what the boy was doing. Standing back up Arryn open his wallet to pretended he was getting the payment. He placed the gold on in Prim's hand and received this change of 4 silvers.
He placed his change in and closed his wallet. As Prim began to speak.
"This rings is very old" he said
"I can remember almost all the items the I have ever procured in my shop. But for the life of me I can't recall how this ring got here. As I said this ring is very old at least three hundred years old if not older. This ring absorbs and drains mana from the wearer. Now normally I could sell this ring for two to four hundreds golds."
"Wow" Arryn stared in disbelief.
"Now before you get all excited" said Prim "
I said normally that would be the case, but since I don't know where the mana that is drained goes or what is used to activate the ring. I cant really tell what it does. It will not hurt you to wear the ring. That much I can tell, the drain is to low to effect you or cause any strain. Which is why it only costs the six silvers."
"What does it take to activate rings in general?" Arryn asked
"It could be a number of different things from mana, thoughts, a certain element of magic like fire. It all depends on what the person who created infused it with and what it was going to be used for. But if you ever find out what activates it let me know and we can test it again." said Prim
"Got it" said Arryn
"Thank you for coming by my shop and should you need to by anything else you know were to find me." said Prim
Arryn placed the ring on his right ring finger as he left the shop. As he put it on his finger he felt a little pinch, but thought nothing of it.
Turning the corner to continue towards his destination he bumped in the one group of people he did not want to see.
Bumping into them the coin fell to the ground. Quickly he snatched it up and shoved it into his pocket.
"What do we have here." the man said to Arryn.
"Nothing Nikita" said Arryn
"Boys" Motioned Nikita with his hand. The other one grabbed his arm and pulled him to the side by the alley. Reaching in Arryns pocked he pulled out the bag along with the the platinum.
"It seems as you have been holding out on us." Nikita said with a grin in his face as he eyed the coin.
"Its mine" yelled Arryn as he tried to reach for it. Pulling the coin out of reach Nikita punched him in the gut. Arryn vomited. Tears in his eye he struggled against them as another punch hit him in the face.
"What's a little shit like you going to needs this for?" Nikita laughed.
"We should get rid of him." Said Matt "Don't need him causing us trouble."
"I think you're right." Nikita's said as his grin got bigger.
Fearing the worst Arryn started screaming and struggling desperately. A guard was running over yelling "what's going on over here" Startled by the guard Arryn ripped free from their hold and kicked Nikita in the groin. Hunching over distracted by the pain. Arryn grabbed the coin and ran towards the temple.
Pushing through the crowd and running as fast as he could to get away. He knew that he could not go back to the cove as it would never be safe. Hearing the commotion as he ran Arryn knew that they could not be far behind him. Using the last bit of his energy he entered the temple.
