I startled awake at the sound of snoring, my eyes shot open only to be burned by the sun. My body was cold and wet. After my eyes adjusted I looked around to see a snow covered island. All of the benches were covered in a thick layer of snow, many of the sleeping warriors were covered as well. As I sat up and looked around, snow and ice fell from my cold, stiff body. I groaned as I propped myself up. I looked over to Vili who slept by my side, he was sprawled out like a starfish.
"So much for cleaning the mead off me." I said in a muffled voice as I stood up, dusting the snow off my body. I was disappointed that Vili didn't keep his promise.
"Rough night?" A voice asked from behind me, I turned to see Kili sitting on a table near by. He was fresh and clean, he obviously didn't stay on the island last night.
"Rougher than some, better than other. You look fine though." I said as I walked towards him, picking my axes up off the cold ground and putting them on my back.
"Yes well someone had to be responsible and make sure some people got home safe." Kili said with a sarcastic smile. I stared at him for a few moments.
"I have clearly done something to offend you, so please, enlighten me." I said as I stood in front of Kili with my arms crossed. Kili laughed.
"Oh no, it's not you, your grace. More or less your choice in men. In, well, him." Kili said as he looked at his drunken brother still sound asleep in the cold ground. Anger built up in my chest.
"I would choose your next words VERY carefully." I warned, I laced my words with dominance so he would heed my words.
"You need a King to stand by you Freydis, not some roaming fool. Vili will offer you nothing but disappointment. Do you know how many women he has been with?" Kili said as he hopped off the table and stood in front of me.
"Do you really think Vili will wait for you while you slumber?" Kili said as he stepped forward, also whispering.
"Stop." I said.
"You need a King Freydis, a King that is standing before you. The rightful King." Kili said as he went to touch my hair. I grabbed his wrist and turned in, he groaned in pain and fell to the ground on his knees before me.
"I'm just telling you the truth you need to hear." Kili said between groans and gasps at the pain.
"The truth is, I am a Queen. I am a ruler of this realm and all in this universe. I am the chosen by Odin, the descendant from him, the beast the protects this realm and breaths life into it. I helped shape this world into what it is today." I said, releasing Kili's hand and throwing him into the snow.
"I don't need a King, I am more than capable to do this myself as I will continue to do so. With Vili, my soul and mate by my side as he is. Earl of the Realm. Vili and I have been seen by the Gods as one, we are one." I said, Kili looked up at me with an evil smile. I walked towards Vili who still slept in the snow, I picked up his large body and put him over my shoulder.
"He's going to hurt you, as soon as you disappear, he will whore him self again!" Kili called in one last attempt. I smiled as I stopped in my tracks.
"No Kili, he won't. The man you just described is yourself." I said without turning back, I continued my hike to the ships with Vili over my shoulder.
After a short hike to the ships, I was surprised to see my companions waiting by a long ship for me.
"I won't lie, I'm disappointed Vili didn't keep his end of the bargain for you." Keon said with a large smile. Ivarr and Koba laughed.
"Well, that makes two of us." I said as I swung Vili off my shoulder and into the ship as if he were a bag of potatoes.
"We need to leave for the human realm tonight, battle plans need to be made with their leaders. If the knights have made it into our lands, they will attack the humans soon." Ivarr said with a serious tone as we all jumped onto the ship, sober sailors pushed off the shore and started out sail home.
"We will leave tonight, Keon I will need you to get a team of warriors together to come with us. A small team of god warriors. I will not risk lives again." I said as I sat by Vili who was slowly wakening.
"Have we made contact with the humans since we left?" I asked.
"I made contact with them, we will be meeting them in Washington DC. They have made battle plans and they said meeting there will be easier. They have had further issues with the Knights, the sooner we get there the better." Koba said as he stared out into the open ocean. I nodded and followed his gaze while I dazed off myself. Who would have thought Kili, was a jealous man. He has never once tried to court me or care for me. Why now after so long. I groan caught my attention, I looked down to see Vili waking and the colour leaving his skin.
"Still wanting to lick the mead off her chest?" Keon asked, Vili's faced almost turned green as he lunged his face over board and vomited last night's events into the ocean.
"At least the fish will thank you." I said as I patted him on the back. He muttered words to me as he caught his breath, I scoffed and smiled. This is the Vili I know and love, this will make for a good story. I placed my head on the deck of the ship as I admired the scents and views from here.
I looked over at our home in the near distance, I very rarely saw it from the angle. At the very point of the main lands, above the cliffs is where out Kingdom was, our castle. From down here it was massive, its dark cobblestone almost shone in the morning sun. But as I looked closer, the glowing from the morning sun were flames that had engulfed the kingdom and the villages below. My heart clenched and I stood up in a hurry, the smell of blood and fore mixed with the screams of the innocent filled my senses. I looked back over my shoulder for my companions, but they had left. The once glorious long ship I was once on was now old. I turned to the centre of the ship to find a pire in the middle of it, surrounding by offerings. My heart rate begun to pick up, another death. I climbed up onto the pire and almost felt my heart rip from its chest. I laid in the centre of the pire, pale with my two battle axes in hand and dressed in a black and gold amour.
"No..." I whispered as I walked backwards and slipping off the pire. I picked myself off up the snow covered ground, I was back on the island. I looked up slowly to see a small gathering of warriors around the pire, along with Vili and my companions. They were all upset and pained. I stood up and raced to the pire.
"No, No! I'm right here!" I screamed as I grabbed Keon and shook him, but he seemed uneased as if he couldn't see me.
"I can't believe she's gone." Ivarr said as he placed a shield by the pire.
"I wonder who will lead us now?" Keon asked with a sad face, a lone tear traced down his face and into his beard.
"Me you fool! I will lead you!" I screamed once again. I walked up to Vili who looked dead on the inside and out. He hadn't slept a wink. His eyes were red and swollen from tears.
"I don't understand, I don't under stand! What is this!" I screamed as I looked around for answers.
"For the Golden dragon to emerge, one must die for it to take their place." A voice said behind me, I turned quickly to be faced with a hooded figure.
"Odin?" I asked quietly. Before I could walked towards him, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. With in seconds I fell to the ground in pain, hunched over I looked at the ground to see my blood mixed with a purple liquid. I touched my chest were the pain was, to feel a deep gash. I looked at the blood on my hand, shaking. And then it became clear.
"This is my fate?" I asked the hooded figure, unable to see his face. His silence gave me my answer. I sucked in a harsh breath, I could't breath. My skin begun to grow hot and boil, I looked back at the pire slowly to see flames grow quickly towards my body. I sat in the snow and watched as the flames consumed the pire with my body in the centre of it. This is my fate, this is my funeral.
I woke with a fright as the long ship gently bumped against the dock. My eyes quickly scanned the kingdom then to my peers on the ship. Everything as it was before I had fallen into a daze. I sighed deeply, I looked up to see Keon looking down at me concerned. I gave him a look, a look stating i would talk to him about this later.
"Right, if I remember correctly, your chambers my Queen?" Vili said as he offered me a large tattooed and calloused hand. I smiled as I took him hand, it should be vise versa since he was still intoxicated.
"Freya, meet me in the throne room at midday." Keon said, I looked back and gave him a small nod before Vili and I made our way to the castle. After a long draining walk and climb up the tower stairs, I pushed open my heavy door in the middle of a laugh.
"No no, you said that in front of everyone!" I shouted between laughs, Vili was crawling up the stairs as he laughed.
"I honestly don't remember that part, but it sounds like something I would do." He said as he made him way into my chambers on his hands and knees. He collapsed on the floor and turned onto his back while I took a seat on my chair by the fire.
"If I end up staying here, we are getting an elevator put in here." Vili said as he huffed.
"It's good exercise for you. I have seen you training the warriors, but not yourself." I said with a small laugh. Vili looked over at me with an amused face.
"Say's mrs I've been sleeping for the past thousand centuries! I haven't seen you swing those axes in a long time!" Vili said with a laugh. After we quieted down, my mind wondered. I should of been training rather than drinking and battle planning. But given the circumstances, we would all be on the battlefield together soon.
"Soon enough we shall battle again, Vili. Just like old times." I said as I laid my head back on the arm rest of the chair. I heard Vili stand up after a struggle and make his way to me.
"Come, lets shower." He said with a large smile and out stretched hand.
