Heidi and Marilyn both entered into the small boutique along the road. The place is owned by the town's best fashion designer. She has the best male and female clothing and her clothes are quite affordable. Ashley, as she is called, studied fashion in the big city. She worked there for a while before returning home to start the small boutique of her own. Heidi knew Ashley back in the city and when she learnt she had returned to St Marys, she decided to look for her when she came to town.
The shop was not big, neither was it too small. It was big enough and spacious enough. There were different sets of clothing hanging in rows at different corners of the shop. Heidi and Marilyn started looking around for the clothes they wanted to buy when a girl of about 19 years approached them. She also lived in St Marys and happens to be a very good friend of Marilyn.
"Hello ladies, can I help you?" she smiled at the two.
"Yes, we wanted to get some dresses for the parade tonight. Can you please help us?" Heidi answered.
"Yes, sure. Please come with me. Ashley just went to the city two days ago to get some new shipment of clothing just for the carnival. I am sure you will like to see them. Maybe, you might get the one you want from that collection," the girl said and started walking towards another part of the store. Heidi and Marilyn followed behind her.
"Ah! There we are," the girl moves towards a pile of clothing, hanged with hangers on a wooden line that had been attached to a wooden kind of wardrobe. She started picking out some of the dresses and showed them to the girls.
All the dresses the girl was picking out looked very attractive to Heidi. All the dresses looked beautiful and interested her. She was almost drooling when the girl picked out a hot pink ballroom dress. It looked like something she would wear to the parade. Marilyn just stared at both women, as they continued to talk about how beautiful the dresses were. She actually did not know what to say since this is the first time she has actually gone out shopping for clothes at the local boutique.
"So, Marilyn I think this blue one would really look good on you. Why don't you try it on?" Heidi said but Marilyn seemed not to be paying any attention to her. She nudged her in the arm, making Marilyn wince in pain.
"Hey! What was that for?" Marilyn asked with an annoyed look on her face.
Heidi shoved the blue dress she was holding into Marilyn's empty hands. "I want you to try this on. Cecilia said there is a changing room somewhere in the back. Let's go and try on the dresses."
Marilyn looked at Heidi who was holding a bunch of clothing in her hands. "Are you going to buy all that?"
"Of course not, silly. We are going to try them on and see which one fits best. We need to look our best tonight."
Marilyn had her lips formed in an o shape in a way to show Heidi that she now understood what she meant. They both then walked towards the changing room which had two rooms. There was a mirror at one side of the room and a chair had been placed right in front of it. Heidi placed the rest of the clothes on it and picked one out. Then headed towards the changing room.
Marilyn was the first to come out. She was wearing the light blue dress Heidi had picked out for her. The dress looked very perfect on her well curved body. The upper part of the dress had been sewn with blue bridal lace while the lower part was covered in a silky material. She looked at her dress in the mirror, admiring herself when Heidi came out. Her jaw dropped when she saw the dress Marilyn was wearing.
"Oh my! This dress was made perfectly for you. Even though it is a simple dress, it still looks very good on you."
"I don't know. It feels like it is showing off my curves way too much. And, the sleeves are all the way to my wrists," Marilyn said with a pout on her face.
"That does not change anything. It's perfect. Anyway, how do I look?" Heidi asked as she came to stand in front of the mirror. She was wearing a golden knee length dress.
"Hmm, not really your taste. Maybe you should try out another one."
"Yeah, you are right. It does not look like me in any way. Maybe I should try the pink one she showed me earlier." Heidi picked up the pink gown and walked back into the changing room. Marilyn also went inside and changed into her own clothes and came out. She picked the dresses from the chair and sat down. Then, put the dresses on her laps.
Suddenly, her mind shifted to the man she met at Heidi's house. Anthony Willis. Marilyn had a silly grin on her face as she thought about him. His green eyes fascinated her the most. She was very shy and could not even talk to him but she had actually taken a good look at the man. He is very gorgeous and Marilyn wondered if she would ever see him again. Before she knew what was happening, Heidi was standing in front of her, waving her hands in front of her dramatically. Marilyn blinked a few times and sat up straight.
"Hey you drifted off again. Are you okay?" Heidi asked, looking worried.
"Yes, sorry. Oh wow! This dress is stunning. And it looks really good on you," Marilyn complimented her friend.
"Really?" Heidi asked as she smiled. She stood in front of the mirror and turned around, examining the dress. She smiled broadly when she was happy with what she was seeing.
"This dress is definitely perfect for me. I am going to buy this dress and yours as well," Heidi announced and Marilyn laughed.
Heidi quickly changed into her own clothing and went back to the counter holding the pink and blue dresses as Marilyn held the others.
Cecilia smiled when she saw them approaching them. "I can see you finally chose the ones you wanted."
"Yes, we did. We are getting these two. Can you put them in different bags for us?"
Cecilai nodded and brought out two different shopping bags from behind the counter. She put each dress in different bags and took the ones left from Marilyn. Both women thanked the young lady for her kindness and help. Heidi paid her and tipped her with some extra money. Cecilia was very happy with the kind gesture and thanked them. Both girls left the shop with broad smiles on their faces.
