Chantel was feeling hungry by the time she was done with her drawings. It was already 3pm by the time she was done with it. She looked up at the wall clock and closed the her book. She picked up her bag and walked out the door. When she got to Cordelia's desk, which was right outside her office, she was busily typing away on her desk top. She looked up when she felt a presence beside her.
"Ma'am, did you need me to do something for you?" Cordelia said and stood up.
"No, Cordelia. I just wanted to in form you that I would be going out for lunch then go to the warehouse. So in case anyone comes to ask of me, tell them I am not around and that they should call me if it really important."
Cordelia nodded. "Yes, ma'am."
"I won't be coming back today so please clean up my office for me when you are done, alright?" Chantel said and walked towards the exit.
"Yes ma'am. Good bye," Cordelia said after her.
Chantel just waved behind her and opened the door. She quickly closed the door behind her and left the building. She took out her keys from her bag when she got to the car pack and opened the car. She placed her bag on the passenger seat and sat in the car. She started the car and drove off to the restaurant to get some food to eat.
She had just one restaurant in mind. Cynthia had once told her about the place and she wanted to try it out herself. Cynthia is known to exaggerate things a bit so Chantel did not want to take her word for it. She followed the direction Cynthia gave her and arrived there just in time. She packed her car and got down. Just when she was about to get down, she heard someone call out her name. She turned to the direction she heard her name just to come face to face with Kevin. She suddenly wore a frown on her face and rolled her eyes.
"Are you stalking me, now?" she asked exasperated.
Kevin walked closer to her. "Wow. Not even a good afternoon. Well, to be honest with you, I am not stalking you. I happen to be at the same place as you at the same time. And besides, this is my favorite restaurant."
"Yeah, right. So, what do you want?" Chantel asked and rolled her eyes again.
"I don't want anything. I just wanted to ask how you were doing, that's all," Kevin answered.
"Oh really? Well you can see how I am doing. So, can I go and get something to eat?"
Kevin laughed and shook his head. "You have not really changed after all. That's good to see."
"What do you mean by that?" Chantel asked, raising her voice a little bit.
"Hey, calm down. I don't mean any bad thing. Please don't get angry," Kevin said raising his hands up in the air.
"Listen, you are wasting my time. I am sure you are here to get some food, right? So, please I have to go," Chantel said and turned towards the door but Kevin held her by the hand, making her turn her attention towards him.
"What now?" Chantel asked, anger evident in her voice.
"Can we just talk? I really want us to talk," Kevin said.
"Kevin, not now. I don't have time for this."
"Chantel, I know you are very angry with me about what happened between us in high school. And I really want to make things right between us. I really don't like seeing you this angry with me," Kevin said and let go of her arm.
"I have said this before and I will say it again. I don't have anything to say to you. Neither do I want to do anything with you. So, please, stop trying to talk to me about things that does not matter anymore."
"Come on, Chantel. Why can't you? I just want peace between us. This situation between us is already causing a lot of tension between us. It's really hard for me. Please Chantel, I don't want you to continue hating me. At least, we can be friends," Kevin said.
Chantel suddenly laughed and Kevin looked a bit uneasy with the loudness of her laughter as everyone around them were suddenly looking towards their direction.
"Friends? With you? Oh please, Kevin. Stop dreaming. There is no way I would want to be friends with a person who hurt me the most in this world. I would rather die than be anything even close to friendship with you," Chantel spat out.
Kevin sighed and frowned suddenly. "Why can't you forgive me? Why? Do you think I felt good hurting you? Do you think I loved making you feel that way? Yes, I was very stupid and made very stupid mistakes. I admit I was childish. I am not perfect and I will continue to make mistakes but I am ready to admit them and work on them. That is why I have been trying to reach out to you and apologise to you. Why are you making it so hard for me? Am I that evil? Am I that bad?"
"Are you ready saying this right now?"
"Chantel, you hardly talk to me without looking or sounding angry. What do you want me to even say? Why are you now this bitter woman? I hardly even recognise you anymore. If you are going to see me as the villain, then I don't think there is any reason for me to ask for your forgiveness anymore. It's obvious you do not want to forgive me. I am sorry I bothered you. And oh, I am sorry for also talking you home the last time we met. I was just helping your friend out. I hope you were not angry with her," Kevin said and walked past her.
Chantel just stood there speechless not knowing what to say. She had totally forgotten about what happened during the weekend. Her mother had advised her to at least thank Kevin for helping to bring her home. But instead, she allowed her anger for the man take over her sense of reasoning, making her forget her promise to her mother.
"Sorry mother, I guess I screwed up. There is no way Kevin is going to listen to me now," she said to herself and walked into the restaurant.
