Chapter 11 - Future dreams

Chantel and Kevin were sitting under the nim tree. There was a bench there were most of the students loved to sit on to sometimes read their books or just have their little gossips. Kevin and Chantel decided to sit there and have a conversation about their relationship and their dreams.

"So, Chantel, I hear you chose home economics? Why?" Kevin asked her.

"Well, because I want to be a renowned fashion designer in future. I want people to wear my clothes and go crazy about it. Like the way people are crazy about the Louis Vittons, the D&G designs and the rest. I won't to be like those designers and have my designs purchased, home and away," Chantel said.

"Wow, that's nice. I really like that. And do you know what I loved about all you said about being a fashion designer?" Kevin looked at her with love.

She smiled shyly and shook her head.

"The way your eyes bright up when you talk about it. It's so cute. I really like your determination."

"Really? Do my eyes really bright up when I talk about my dreams?" Chantel asked, raising one of her eyebrows up.

"Of course. Hasn't anyone told you before?"

"Well, Adiepena told me about it, once. I thought she was saying it because I am her friend. But, since you are also saying it, then I guess it might be true. Thank you," she smiled.

"And have I ever told you, you have the most beautiful smile I have ever seen?" Kevin said and shifted closer to Chantel. She was beginning to feel very uncomfortable. Kevin leaned in to kiss her, but when he got really close, he pulled back and smiled. Chantel really thought Kevin was really going to kiss her on the lips. She kept watching his lips closely till he pulled back.

"Why did you tease me like that for?" she asked, and fake pouted.

"Would you have loved it if I kissed you? Aren't you scared people will see you? We are in the middle of the school, you know?"

"Well, I would have love to experience how it feels like. I have never been kissed before," Chantel admitted.

"I really want to kiss you more than you know. But, I don't want to push you into it, yet. At the right time, I will give you the biggest kiss ever," Kevin winked at her.

Chantel blushed. Then, Kevin suddenly kissed her cheek. She blushed even more and hid her face in his chest. Her face was very flustered and she did not want anyone passing by to see her like that.

As they continued to display their little PDA, some girls stood at a distance, watching them. Nadia was fuming when she saw Kevin kiss Chantel on the cheek. She almost walked over to them to cause a scene, when Naa Shika stopped her.

"Nadia, don't go there. That girl is not worth your time."

"Can't you see what is going on there? She stole my boyfriend and is shamelessly flirting around with him in broad daylight. That girl is a shameless whore. I wish I could nail her eyes out," Nadia fumed.

"Let's get out of here. Those two are not worth it. Let them do whatever they want." Akua and Naa turned to go but Nadia remained still.

"Nadia, come on, let's go," Akua said to her.

"I swear to God. I will let that Chantel girl pay for this. I will make sure she pays for taking Kevin away from me." she turned and walked ahead of Naa and Akua, as they silently followed her.

The two love birds continued chatting away, oblivious of what was about to transpire if not the timely intervention of Akua and Naa. Chantel came down from her blushing and sat up.

"So what about you?" she asked Kevin.

"What?" Kevin was confused about what she was asking.

"What are your dreams for the future?" Chantel asked.

"Oh! Well, I want to be an architect. That is why I am studying technical skills."

"That is really great, you know. That would be so nice."

"Yeah, I know." Kevin was suddenly sad.

"What's wrong, Kev? Is everything alright?" Chantel was worried.

"It's just that, I... never knew my dad. He died before I was born. And, my mother is the one footing all of my school fees and other bills. It's really hard for her. She does so many things and I wish I could just take the burden off her, for a while, you know."

"I am sorry to hear that. To be honest, I don't know what I would have done if my father ever dies. It will kill me," Chantel said.

"It won't get to that. At least, not yet. So, that is why I want to be an architect so that I can take care of her and stop her from doing all that hard work."

"That's really admirable. I am sure your mother is proud of you."

"Yes, she is." Kevin smiled and Chantel placed her head on his shoulder, not really minding who might be watching her.

"The end of term exams is next week, and I have to study for it. So, I guess I have to go, angel."

Chantel pouted. "Can't you stay for a little while? I love chatting with you."

"I really love chatting with you too, dear. But, I have to go. I will see you after the exam. You guys will be holding an entertainment program on the day of your vacation, right?

"Yeah, that's what I have heard. I have never liked those kind of things so I don't think I will be there."

"You have to be there because I will be coming."

"Really? But I thought that the program was an internal thing?"

"No dear, other schools like mine, are always invited to grace the occasion, so I will be coming there, live and coloured."

Chantel laughed at the dramatic way Kevin said it. Kevin held her cheek in a loving way. "It will be perfect to be there with you." He looked straight in Chantel's eyes. Chantel was lost in his eyes. Kevin kissed her cheek again and stood up. Chantel sighed deeply and got up as well.

They walked together to the gates, while holding each others hand. They said their goodbyes to each other. Then, Kevin left. Chantel turned back and returned to her dormitory, beaming with smiles on her face.
