Kevin cleared his throat, bringing Chantel out of her daze. She felt embarrassed for staring at Kevin and began to seriously blush. Kevin smiled at her, he was very interested in getting to know her.
"I don't think I have seen you around before. Are you in your first year?" Kevin asked.
Chantel nodded shyly, still holding the books in her hands. "Yes I am. We started just last week."
"Yeah, that's true. From your dressing I can see you are boarder. So, do you mind showing me where your dorm is? Maybe I might just come by and say hi." Kevin said.
"Oh, it's the one behind the mango tree. You can't miss it," Chantel pointed with her head.
"Alright then. It was really nice to see you, Chantel. I will come by and see you on my next visit. Take care," he said and walked by her.
Chantel took one last look at the boy then looked away when Kevin turned. She blushed a deep red shade on her cheeks, before balancing the books properly on her hands. She walked towards her dorm and brushed past Cynthia and Adiepena, who were almost done with their washing.
"Chantel, has your mother left already?" Cynthia asked, without getting a reply from Chantel.
Chantel just walked past her in a daze, like she did not even exist. "What just happened? Did you see the look on her face?" Cynthia asked Adiepena, who was drying the rest of the clothes on the line.
"It is as if she did not see us. Did something happen back at home or something?" Adiepena said.
Cynthia shrugged and started pouring out the used water into a bucket. Chantel came out of the room, still wearing a funny smile on her face. Cynthia stood in front of her and called her but she still did not respond, so, she softly tapped her on the shoulder which made Chantel jump up a bit.
"What is wrong with you? Is everything alright?" Cynthia asked, looking concerned.
"I just met the most gorgeous boy ever. And he has the most gorgeous brown eyes I have ever seen," she smiled shyly.
Cynthia and Adiepena looked at each other and looked back at her. Chantel looked like she was daydreaming. All she did was to smile and sigh.
"You met a boy here? When? Where?" Cynthia asked.
"At the car park, a few moment ago. He said his name is Kevin. He came to see a friend here and somehow bumped into me," Chantel narrated.
"I see. Listen, Chantel, let me be honest with you. I don't think at this age we should be thinking of getting boyfriends. This is the time for us to study hard and achieve our dreams. All that boy drama can wait," Cynthia advised her.
"I know. It's just that, this boy is so dreamy. You know, I felt like I was drowning in his eyes. It was not in a bad way though, but instead in a very good kind of way. He is very handsome," Chantel said.
"Well, just don't. Think about yourself and your family. About making them proud. That is what you should be thinking about," Cynthia said.
"Yes, you should listen to Cynthia," Adiepena added.
"I know that, girls. Eii! I forgot oo. My mother is still waiting for me at the car park," she ran out with Cynthia running after her.
Adiepena shook her head and smiled, and continued to dry the remaining clothes.
Nadia was in the senior dormitory seated on Nadia's bed with Naa Shika, having a discussion about something when Akua entered the room and sat on the next bed. She faced the two girls and crossed her legs, while she pouted her lips like something was annoying her.
"What's wrong with this one too?" Nadia asked, pointing at Akua.
"Don't mind her. I am sure she must have argued with someone as usual. It is written all over her face." Naa Shika replied. The two girls began to laugh.
Akua looked at them with a look of slight shock on her face. "I did not argue with anyone. I am not like that," she felt hurt that her friends actually thought she was a troublemaker.
"Come on, Akua. All of us have been friends for quite a while, we know what you can do," Nadia said again.
"I only like to speak my mind, that's all. I don't think there is anything wrong with that."
"Oh no, there is nothing absolutely wrong with that," Naa Shika mocked her and Nadia began to laugh again.
"Well, I am sure if you found out that Kevin is cheating on you, you would wipe that silly grin off your face," Akua sneered.
Nadia stopped laughing at once. She frowned at Akua and narrowed her eyes at her. "What did you just say about Kevin?"
" I saw him with that girl from Accra. The one here on scholarship? What's that her name again? Come and see the way they were flirting with each other."
"No, Kevin will not do that. He will not stoop that low. He won't go after that form 1 girl. Never!" She growled.
"Hey, calm down. Akua, are you sure it was Kevin you saw with Chantel?" Naa Shika asked.
"I saw them with my two eyes. They were staring at each other as if they are the only ones on the school compound. You should have seen them. Nadia, you have to be careful o. That Chantel girl will easily steal your man from you if care is not taken," Akua said.
"Never! I will not allow that girl take my man away from me. So, after the warning I gave her, she still decided to set her eyes on what belongs to me, right? She better watch out. Because, I am going to sting her like a poisonous scorpion," Nadia fumed.
"You better show her who is the queen of this school before you allow her take Kevin from you. She better not come anywhere near my cousin, otherwise, she won't see me well. How dare she?!" Naa Shika spat out.
Kevin and Naa Shika were maternal cousins. They were both of the same age and are very close to each other. When Nadia first saw Kevin, when he came to visit Naa Shika, she instantly fell for him and pleaded with Naa Shika to help her get him. So, she began to get close to him so that he would notice her. Kevin had not told her he was in love with her, yet, Nadia told all her friends that Kevin and her were dating.
Kevin did not know about this. He did know that Nadia did feel something for him, since she already told him, but he felt nothing for her. So, when she heard Kevin had interest in Chantel, it really angered her.
"Has Kevin left already?" Nadia asked, feeling rage building up inside her.
"I am sure he already left," Akua replied.
"What do you plan on doing to that Chantel girl?" Naa Shika asked.
Nadia smirked. "We are going to pay that silly form one girl a visit, today."
