Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Income Reinforcement

(READ THE AUTHOR NOTES AT THE END)

"You are dead, filthy beast," the halberd user said as he rushed towards Luke.

Alex smiled while following behind.

"who the fuck are you calling a filthy beast? You decrypted, old bastard!" Luke rebuked in anger.

The term "filthy beast" was a racial slur depicting that all beast men were filthy. If the old man said, 'you filthy beast,' then he was just talking about Luke. 'you filthy beast' depending on who said it, and the tone could even be a term of endearment. But filthy beast alone was a no-no-no!

But this was far from why Luke was angry. He wasn't a true beast man but a human that was cursed.

Alex could not help but chuckle at Luke's reply. Alex did not allow the old man to reach Luke, nor did Luke. Luke was throwing Poison daggers from afar while Alex and three shadows started wounding the old man up close. The old man was weary of Alex's blades and relegated less defense towards the shadow daggers because of his armor. The war scythe user could not just watch his brother being taken apart, nor did he want to leave his position for fear of Alex's instant teleport. His only other option was to send frequent water bombs that would explode, killing a shadow and forcing Alex to withdraw before it expands.

"Luke keep him busy and trap him in an orb and ran to me in 2 minutes," Alex said as he blinked back to the war scythe user. Leaving Luke and two shadows that remained to deal with the halberd-wielding old man.

"Since you want me, you can have me all to yourself!" Alex said once he arrived.

The old man with the scythe was experiencing firsthand what Alex's ghost fade was like. The one solace the old man found was that Alex's blades did not fade as well, at least that what he thought. The war scythe was not a well-organized weapon for close combat or a close combat weapon. Alex did not hesitate to allow his blade to meet the scythe head-on, only to allow it to fade, easily passing thru the war scythe and nicking the wrist of the old man under his wrist guard. Alex could not help but thank Star again for the poison. Alex did not leave him alive; he followed up by slitting his throat.

Seeing the number of sin points, 'The bastard was really evil', Alex thought.

"Marvel!" seeing another brother die, Amelia yelled. So did the halberd user, as the overgrown creeping vines shattered the shadow orb. The remaining active old man chased Luke, who was running to Alex as they discussed. But Luke did not wait the full two minutes. As soon as the halberd user destroy the orb and the two remaining shadows, he was off.

With Luke attacking from afar and Alex using ghost fade on his body and blade, they made quick work of the old man whose mind was in turmoil since losing two brothers.

Alex and Luke then walked over to the sole poisoned survivor. Alex then positioned his blade on the old man's throat; the old man's pupils dilated, he did not want to die, but his body didn't want to move.

Amelia screamed in a hoarse voice as if someone were trying to seal something precious to her, "Don't do it; they did nothing to you."

Instead of piercing the old man's throat as he planned, Alex decapitated him for a dramatic effect while looking at Amelia and Theodore.

Luke wished he could slap and beat Alex; he knew Alex was provoking them. He thought only a lunatic would want to face two royal mages.

As the space unlocked, Alex distributed health, mana, stamina potions to Luke before chugging down some too. He wanted to be ready for anything, especially for the two mages. Alex did not want to fight them. In his mind, it was them that wanted to fight him.

'did they really need to interfere?' Alex thought.

He was supposed to be torturing Wallace right now, but stupid people kept getting in his way and locking the damn space.

In reality, the mages wanted nothing to do with Alex. they were on a mission from the king.

While chugging down a stamina potion, Alex realized he had to take three times the number of potions to recover his stamina and mana potion.

"Star, these potions are becoming less and less effective. Is taking too much causing me to build a tolerance to them?" Alex asked.

"Tolerance? No, it's because your genies are changing. Those potions were made with the human anatomy in mind. The closer you get to your evolution, the less effective they will be. Twenty-one hours until/into your evolution, those potions won't give you anything. Although the system is holding back your complete evolution, minor changes are still happening. These changes wouldn't cause you pain or affect your mental and physical state." Star replied.

"Are ther-," Just as Alex was about to ask whether there were potions for Demi-gods, Star cut him off.

"You can ask all the questions you want later, but for now, it would be best just to escape from here," Star suggested.

And right on cue, Alex's skill perception showed fifty dots moving in his direction 500m away.

Just as Theodore anticipated, nearly fifty guards and mages come galloping on horses to the area. Luke, with trained eyes, saw them coming and cursed internally; his escape really depended on Alex.

"You should leave and focus on completing at least one quest. After leaving this world, we need to go hunt for some runestones," Star said monotonously. Vigerřamous couldn't help thinking, If he knew Alex sixteen years ago, Alex would have at least one other innate skill adapt for crowd control.

Vigerřamous only solace was that the system wasn't hostile towards Alex like them in the past. Star found further comfort knowing that Alex only had his current power for three days. He could only imagine what Alex could achieve in ten years. But if Alex were to run into another child of a god, he would be wipeout in five seconds considering that Gods don't need mana or rune stones for skills.

Although Alex could access all the elements that had darkness attributes when he ascended to the celestial realm, no one knew how long that would take.

Star was even more worrisome since the system was acting differently and he knew that in a couple of years, once he was partially healed, he would need to return to the celestial realm to look for his father.

[new quest]: attend the mage thunderbird academy.

[Reward]: Flectling glove (+2 Agility), and 20 exp

Alex ignored the quest; for now, he would have plenty of time to consult Star about it later. His priority now was escaping.
