Chapter 16 - "The peculiar city of Nightfall"

Leif covered his nose and dragged the body to the side of the road.

He arrived near Eline and told her the circumstances.

Eline let out a shriek before calming herself down. With a sullen face, she said, "Big brother Leif it is absolutely necessary for us to go to Nightfall city as I have to meet my uncle who is stationed there."

Leif was hesitating before he eventually agreeing after seeing Eline's and Diane's gazes.

He buried the corpse near the road and built a rough grave.

As they continued their journey they could see the city from far away.

Nearer to the city, the air had a faint taste and smell of smoke; perhaps, after all, more a loss of the fragrance of grass and herbage than any positive taste or smell. Quick they were whirled over long, straight, hopeless streets of regularly-built houses, all small and of brick.

The city gates were quite high and guards were patrolling regularly.

As Leif entered the city he sensed a massive path energy signature. He had entered the peak of the first ring some time ago so the only people who could make him feel so pressurized must be someone above the second ring.

He straightened his back and said to Eline, "Where are we going to go now?"

Eline replied timidly, "How about we go to the silver ax branch in Nightfall city."

Soon they continued their journey through the city. There was nothing great about the city and did not look any different from a normal city.

But if there was anything peculiar it was that everyone in the city was happy and smiling. Normally it is something to rejoice and be appreciative that the city had such cheerful citizens.

However, even the slaves being carried along in chains, the butcher who was preparing meat, and even those who were preparing to be hanged had this smile.

Leif felt creepy and felt Diane pulling his arm looking all nervous.

Finally, after some time they reached the gate of a majestic building carrying the insignia of a giant ax.

But there were no guards here and was completely deserted.

"Ehh why is this so deserted, my lady?" Diane said with great concern.

Eline was going to reply when the giant doors opened and a middle-aged man with a tired look approached them.

He had blonde hair, fatigued eyes, and a goatee that fitted him perfectly. His movement was rather lethargic but he had a friendly and amiable smile.

However, the most captivating thing about him was his eyes that were similar to Eline. It had shades of cerulean in them.

"Greetings Uncle Terry! Where is everyone?" Eline said in a slightly shaking voice.

"Haha don't worry they are all out on specific missions," he said calmly and invited them in.

The entire building was a luxurious mansion with many rooms and large halls. Uncle Terry led them to their office and had them all seated.

Uncle Terry sat down in his large leather chair and assessed them for a minute.

"How are you, my dear niece? What happened to your entourage? Could you introduce me to this young gentleman accompanying you?" he said calmly without much mention.

Eline hurriedly explained with a nervous face and trembling voice.

Uncle Terry's expression was changing the entire time and he said with an angry voice, "How outrageous a small bandit group wanted to attack the young mistress of the silver ax union! If young friend Leif had not intervened we would have been in a terrible position right now."

As he finished talking the entire place seemed to have started shaking and all of their weapons started vibrating.

~Mmmhmmm~

Everyone started panicking and was alarmed after seeing this.

"Oh, how rude of me! How about I host everyone in this mansion as I need to inform this to the headquarters?" Uncle Terry's expression eased and he said with a friendly voice.

"Ok Uncle," Eline said after looking around and asking approval from everyone.

As everyone left the room Leif suddenly turned back and observed Uncle Terry who still had an amiable smile on his face.

"That man is dangerous," he murmured and he left the room with everyone.

After Uncle Terry ensured that everyone had left the room his face twisted and his hair grew a scarlet color and was a meter long.

Uncle terry roared inwardly," You cannot do this! Our agreement did not include this!"

An insidious voice emerged with a mocking tone, "Oh are you going back on your words T-E-R-R-Y."

Uncle Terry's steps faltered and he fell to the ground and he said in a cowardly tone, "Of course not! I am your obedient dog! How can I ever go against you, Master?"

The insidious voice continued, "Dogs can bark but if you don't stop barking I would have beat you to death! Be obedient and you can survive without losing your life."

"Anyway, I won't kill you even if you want to die. I want you to witness what I do in this world! I want you to witness as the entire world becomes a sea of blood! I want you to witness my arrival!"

"This world shall witness the grand return of the 'Daybreaker' sacred totem." the voice continued in a tone filled with madness.

The streets were silent but the wind carried a trace of blood.
