Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I woke up late this morning, as usual, feeling nauseous after partying and drinking to a stupor last night with my buddies, Annabelle and Diana, at the club, where we are working as freelance dancers.

Well, this isn't new because it has been my lifestyle shortly after my parents died when I was 17 years old.

I met Annabelle and Diana 5 years ago when I was wandering around in a street, without having a definite abode to stay in. They were both orphans just like me and have known each other since the age of ten.

Annabell is 23 years old from France, whilst Diana is 24 from Spain. Both parents died when they were 8 years old, and that makes them self-reliant on their own after their parent's death. They met at an orphanage at the age of ten when they were forcefully brought in from the street.

After spending five years in the orphanage, they both ran away from there to another city, to start a new life. They're both beautiful and attractive, but different in behavior.

Annabelle is calm and ready to listen to correction whenever she's wrong. But Diana is absolutely the opposite of that. She is lousy and wants to be bossy every time! Diana wants everything to go her way, and never listens to corrections because she thinks she is always right in all ways. However, I still love both of them equally.

My parent's death brought an end to my education since there's no way I could fund my tuition fees any longer. Feeding has been a huge problem itself, not to talk of any other thing else.

After their death, I came to realize that, catering for yourself all alone can be difficult! And the person you trust so much can go to any length just to hurt you. It sounds like what we all know, isn't it? Yeah, I know, but that's just the way this world has shown me the kind of evil cards your closest of persons can play to hurt you so bad!

My dad was a great novelist that could interpret his mind into his writings when he was still alive. And his dream was to become a successful writer in the country.

Unfortunately, that turned to only a mere dream because he couldn't make enough money to sponsor and publish his books, and he is the kind of person who will never sell his write-up rights.

So he decided to let go of his dream and focus on his family by doing another job, just to cater to our needs and send me to a very good school, maybe not the best, but a very good one that he can afford. He worked as a bartender in a big bar and hardly spends time with us at home as he is always at work.

My dad's philosophy and ideology about life are, to give whatever you are doing your best, and always make sure you take good care of your family.

That is what he has always said to me and he said that I should always put my family first in everything I do, no matter what comes my way... If I do have my family's blessings, I will be successful in all I do.

So that has always been my watchword and I keep his words so close to my heart because I love him and I admire the way he works tirelessly, to make his family happy.

My mom had a serious kidney problem, which makes her quit her hostess job after the illness got severe. She becomes a full housewife that only looks after the family and me since my dad is not always around.

Regardless of my dad's low income, he has been saving some money for mom's operation which was supposed to come up the next month, but everything was ruined in one night.

The unforgettable day of my life was the day, my dad went to work as usual and hurriedly rushed back home around 10 pm to wake my mom, who was already fast asleep.

I was on my way to the kitchen to get some water when I heard his voice, then I happily turned around to go and meet him in their room.

"Get up Susan, we need to leave this city right away!"

Those were the words he uttered to my mom as he was busy packing up the luggage. As he turned to pick something from the floor, he saw me standing at the door, staring at him intensely. Then he moved closer to me.

"Listen, Katie, we are leaving for another city right now, go pack your things!" He said to me with all seriousness.

Though I was surprised and scared when I saw how troubled he was, all I could think of at that moment was my school... I never thought we would ever leave the city again, not to talk of leaving my precious college.

I wanted to implore him to change his decision but he looked so determined about leaving. Luckily for me, my mom was against such an idea, she preferred we stay and face whatsoever that was coming.

"I'm not running anymore, and I'm ready for us to face whatever that might be coming our way... Aren't you tired of running Damian?" Those were the words of my mom, as tears were about coming out of her weak eyes.

In no time, they both started a heated argument which I was trying to calm them both. But what we heard next was a loud bang on the floor. My mom and I fearfully rushed down to our knees when we heard the gunshot and hold my dad, who has been shot from the front door.

"Here, take this dairy and leave immediately with Katie and always remember I love you both," My dad said to my mom as he pointed the diary to her and kept on battling with his life.

"No Damian, I'm not leaving here without you!" My mom screamed out as she holds him tight to herself and started crying uncontrollably.

I kneeled beside my dad, who was bleeding profusely from his chest and smiling at me at the same time, as he lifted his hand to hold me by the face. Everything happened so suddenly that I couldn't process what's going on yet. I just kept staring at him helplessly in shock.

I wanted to cry but tears weren't coming, then I realized I've been crying inwardly without knowing for the first time. When I hold his hand, it has started getting cold. So I began caressing his palm with both hands just to warm it up a bit, but it seems too late.

"Go now Susan, Please make sure you look after Katie! I love you both." Those were his last words to us before he finally died.

My mom and I were still on our knees, sobbing beside his lifeless body when I heard someone walked in. Immediately I heard the footsteps coming from the kitchen in our direction, I quickly covered my mom's mouth and pulled her up, in order not to get seen by the incoming person.

I took my dad's diary from the floor and we both hid under the bed. When we saw someone walked into the room, we held our breath and monitored his movement with our eyes wide opened! Since we are under the bed, we only saw his legs and couldn't see the full physique.

We were both scared to death when he bent with his right knee to examine my dad if he is still breathing. After checking for about 2 seconds, he stood up and we heard him made a call and all he said was;

"Come over now and clear the mess before the cops get here!" Those were his words as he turned to leave the room; then my mom coughed out...
