Chapter 16 - Strong

It had been a day and Vivienne was quite done with it all. She had decided to stay in her condo in the city for the next few days. It was closer to the office and after everything that had happened, it felt most familiar. She was met with some restraint but in the end she had insisted that it was the best decision for her now. She would return to the estate and mansion after a few days of a clear mind.

She had left the office only an hour ago despite the sun having been down for hours. She felt more responsibility to work longer and try to get as much done as possible. She quickly slipped on an emerald green wrap dress and a pair of strappy black heels. After exiting her condo building she walked only a block to an upscale bar in the neighborhood. She sat down at the bar and ordered a glass of bourbon quickly. After the week she had, she was ready to forget it all.

The bartender sat a glass filled with the amber liquid in front of her. Vivienne took a sip gently and closed her eyes. She felt like she was in a dream for the past few days. Did all of this really happen? Was any of it even real? She opened her eyes and tried to bring herself to reality.

Vivienne was about to reach for her phone in her handbag when she felt a presence next to her. She turned quickly and saw no one but the vampire from before. He was wearing a navy blue suit coat and white button down shirt. His silver hair half up and half down, he nodded to the bartender who quickly worked behind the bar. Clearly he'd been here before. Vivienne turned just to stare at the man who had sat next to her.

"You shouldn't ever drink alone." He said calmly, soothingly as he watched her. Vivienne's mouth dropped slightly. When had he even gotten here? And now he was telling her how to live? "And why is that?" Vivienne asked accusingly. "Because you're not the type of woman to drink alone." He smirked as the bartender delivered a wine glass filled with a dark red liquid. He took a small sip and smiled more.

Vivienne couldn't help but smile herself. "Well I guess I'm not alone now, am I?" She asked as she took a sip of the bourbon from her glass. The vampire raised his glass and took his own sip. "I suppose that I should know who I am accompanied by though?" Vivienne asked. He had never told her his name, even from that first night.

He looked at her through a smirk as though he wasn't sure how to answer first before he finally responded. "Piers."

"Piers." Vivienne responded with a smile. She took another large sip of her drink. "So, Piers... How old are you?" Piers smirked while looking down at the dark red liquid in his glass. "Isn't it bad manners to inquire one's age?" His eyes turned to look at her, the devilish smile still on his face. Vivienne's heart stopped at the look he gave her. She was lucky if she would survive the night.

"Well I think it only appropriate." She smiled as she gestured towards him.
