Chapter 6: Bake for 2 hours then leave to cool.
Waiting out the back i could hear Mel and Sue joking around and getting the audience going.
"So its time to get our bakers out please give a big welcome to the Cake Boy himself Eric Lanlard" Mel said as the audience clapped and cheered.
"And please give a very warm welcome to his assistant today, Somerset's own and Great British Bake Off finalist, oh and Loki's favourite Karen Frost" Sue said with great excitement.
As Eric and i made our way onto the stage, all i could see was a sea of people, everyone of them clapping and cheering and smiling. Eric spoke first.
"Good morning" his soft french accent made every woman in the audience melt.
"Good morning" i said nervously.
We gave Mel and Sue a hug, then Eric spoke to me.
"So Karen, what do you think of this turn out?" he said with a huge grin and a gesture towards the audience.
I smiled and looked out again "This is fantastic, thank you all for coming but Eric i have to admit i'm a little nervous and a little star struck".
Eric laughed and gave me a hug to calm down. We got on with the baking, with Eric talking through the steps to his chocolate heaven fudge cake surprise and i did the baking as with all these shows someone (Eric) had already made the finished sponges and we just had to decorate it. Once the cake was finished we cut the cake open to reveal a white chocolate heart running through the cake, the audience, Mel and Sue all cheered and i was relieved i had got Eric's instructions right. I smiled at Eric and the audience "Thank god" i shouted and everyone laughed. Next Eric and i spent the next hour and a half posing for phots and signing autographs.
It was then 1pm and i met up with Bec's and Robert for our walk about, I managed to buy a few cake products and we all had a great laugh when we stopped at the Nielsen Massey cocktail bar owned by Eric, Bec's and i had vanilla infused mojito's (yes more than 1). As we were finishing the walkabout i heard my name called, i turned to see Tom's sister Emma with her friend Zowey and her mum Diana.
"Karen, its good to see you again" she said giving me a hug then introduced me to her mum "Karen this is my mum Diana, mum this is Tom's girlfriend Karen".
"Girlfriend! wow um" i stammer.
"Nice to meet you Karen, actually i'm glad as Tom has been driving me mad about how he couldn't wait to meet you yesterday".
I have to admit i was a little taken aback by this revelation. "Thank you" i said with a big cheesy grin "Its good to meet you" i said, and she gave me another hug, as she did, Diana whispered in my ear.
"Don't worry about the papers sweet, Luke will sort everything".
"Thank you Diana" i said smiling at her, as i pulled away a tear ran down my face and Diana wiped it away without anyone else seeing, smiling she gave me a wink.
"Its lovely to meet you and i hope to see you later with my son, Please!".
"OK, that would be great" i said as we walked away towards the green room again.
Once again it was lunch time and both Bec's and Robert went off with their families and i stayed behind. 10 minutes after everyone left i decided that i was hungry and would go find a little cafe. I walked to a small cafe at the back entrance to Earls court and sat in the corner with a sandwich and a pot of Twinning tea, i sat and thought about everything that had happened since April remembering the day my world fell apart.
I was in hospital i had been for the last 3 days because of the gastric band port becoming infected so i was on 3 different types of antibiotics, i was looking forward to today the children were off school due to an inset day and Steve had agreed to bring them down to see me, but by 1pm they still hadn't turned up, as i got up off the bed to go see the nurses to ask if they might have heard from Steve, my surgeon Mr Welbourn, a young male nurse Graham and two police officers walked through the door, my heart started to beat faster and a lump filled my throat.
"Whats happened?" i asked
Mr Welbourn said "Karen i need you to sit down, these officers have something to tell you"
I sat on the bed and Graham sat next to me, i started to panic.
PC Thomas; "Miss Frost i regret to inform you that there has been an accident" he stepped closer and knelt down in front of me "The car your boyfriend was driving with your children in was driven of the road by a diver under the influence......."
He went on saying stuff but i couldn't hear him, "Are they OK?" i asked.
"I'm afraid not Miss Frost they were all killed instantly".
My heart broke into a thousand pieces, i would never see them again, i would have to live my life knowing i would never see my children grow up and reach their dreams.
I thought i would be sharing my time at the Cake and Bake show with my family but i was also happy to be sharing it with Tom. I checked my phone and had a message from Tom.
Tom: Hope your OK love? my mum rang me to say that she met you and that she thinks your wonderful. xx xx
Me: I loved meeting her, she is really nice and yes i'm OK. xx xx
Tom: Emma said you seemed upset, Darling are you sure?? xx
Me: Yeah, its just I'm not used to all this, it hurt that Kiera and Oliver's names were put in the paper and then the story that i used their deaths to get with you! xx
Tom: Luke has already spoken to my solicitor, he has been in touch with the press mainly the sun and they are going to print an apology to us both. xx
That made me feel better, then i realized the time, i had 10 minutes to get back, so i typed as i ran back.
Me: Crap i lost track of time, running back to Earls court, man I'm so unfit!!! lol! xxx
Tom: Ha ha, Run Forrest Run!! xxx
I made it back in 5 minutes and was very out of breath, Bec's laughed at me.
"Where have you been?".
"I , ....Oh god i have a stitch!" I said bending over and grabbing a bottle of water off of the side then Lisa entered.
"Everyone ready" She said almost bouncing.
The rest of the afternoon passed perfectly and before i knew it, it was 5pm and the show was closing, i said bye to everyone and decided to wait for Tom out the back, so sent him a text.
Me: Meet you at the back, having a cigarette. xxx
Tom: Ok be there in 10. xxx
I sat out on the back steps and decided to ring my mum, i'm sure my dad buys the Sun and they would have seen the story.
"Hi mum, yeah i'm having a great....yes its true i did meet him, what? he played Loki in Thor 1+2 and The Avengers......yes the baddie....."
Just then Tom arrived, i got up and he hugged me.
"Mum, Tom has just arrived to pick me up, no it wasn't just a one night stand" I held my hand over the speaker and said to Tom "I'm sorry"
He just shrugged his shoulders and started laughing.
"Yes mum he's right here. oh OK" i held the phone out to Tom "She would like to talk to you" i said smiling and winking at Tom, he took the phone.
"Good evening Mrs Frost.......Its OK i have my assistant sorting it......i promise i will......yes she is"
Tom smiled a huge grin that went to his sparkling blue eyes and i rolled my eyes, my god he had managed to charm my mum over the phone.
"OK Janet, believe me i will take care of her....... and you have a great evening as well, do you want to speak to Karen?, OK i will bye".
He hung up the phone and handed it back to me laughing.
"Well i think she likes me" he said pulling me into his arms.
"Of course she does, whats not to like?" I kissed Tom then looked at him
"How was your day? did you have many interviews?"
"No just one for Empire to talk about High Rise, it went well" Tom said as he opened the car door for me then went round and got in "How was your day Darling?" he said pulling out into the traffic.
"Well it didn't start out well but i loved baking with Eric Lanlard and......." i told Tom all about my day and he listened intently and we laughed about it as well. Tom dropped me at the hotel and said he would be back for 7:30pm to pick me up, we were going to a meal with his family.
