The door creaked slightly as Cassidy pushed it open, her gym bag slung over her shoulder, her curly dark hair set in a ponytail as slight bead of sweat could still be seen on her bronze skin. The familiar smell of her tiny apartment wrapped around her as she stepped in the apartment, it was a faintly damp and mixed with the lingering aroma of last night's takeout. She closed the door and gently tossed her keys on the counter, already peeling off her earbuds, when she noticed him.
"Tyler?" she asked, surprise flickering across her face. She didn't know how he got in and as far as he could remember he didn't have a spare key, but she didn't dwell much on this as she hadn't seen her brother in months, he was seated calmly on the old couch facing the door, his eyes closed as he lay lazily on the orange chair as if he'd been taking a nap. The faint natural light from the small window cast soft shadows on his face, making his brown eyes appear darker, more serious.
