Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Oh, I've successfully summoned the fourth hero!"

The one who shouted in front of me was a woman dressed as a medieval princess, wearing a gorgeous dress with blond hair and blue eyes. I don't think I'm a hero though.

I'm currently in another world.

While working on the development of a new strategic class technique in the laboratory, a forced summoning magic circle was suddenly deployed, and when I noticed it, I was surrounded by soldiers on all sides. That's where the woman in front of me said the words I just heard.

Considering from the reports that have been reported several times in academic societies, this is a medieval-level nation that is building a civilization that depends on magic, and I was called by a forced summoning method that can summon a suitable person, mostly a hero. Given the outdated armor worn by the soldiers, my predictions wouldn't be wrong.

"Is there something wrong, hero?"

I was so focused on my thoughts that the woman wondered why I wasn't talking to her, so she started talking to me. From the way she looks, she doesn't look like a servant by any stretch of the imagination, she's probably a big princess or something like that.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I know I was summoned by the summoning team, but where the hell am I?"

''Oh, you know about the summoning of the heroes, then it'll be quickly. You are inside the royal palace of the Kingdom of Henrient, and I am the First Princess of the Kingdom of Henrient, Sophia Le Henrient. We have called you to ask for your help, my brave friend. May I ask your name?"

"That's polite. My name is Yard Werner. May I ask why I was summoned here?"[It was much more polite in the raw.]

''In that regard, there are other heroes besides Mr. Yard, so the king will speak to you all collectively. Please come this way."

I hope there are other people from the same world or at least the same civilization level from those who were summoned.

She urges me on and walks ahead. There are some expensive furnishings in the hallway, but they don't seem to be very functional. After walking endlessly down long corridors and stairways, we finally arrive at what looks like the room we're looking for.

The soldiers standing next to the entrance open the door. Inside a man and a woman who look like the king and queen are sitting on a throne-like place with young men at their side, and around them stood people in clothing that look very expensive.[ This paragraph was 1 whole line but I broke it down for convenience.]

Near the entrance are two men in their late twenties or so and one woman in her late teens, perhaps these are the brave men who were called in. One of the men is wearing camouflage clothing that cannot be made with the level of civilization in this world.

Prompted by the princess, I lined up next to them, and the princess went near the king.

"Brave men, you have come to the kingdom of Henrient. I am Vergilius Le Henrient, King of the Kingdom of the Henrient. I know that you are a bit confused at this sudden summoning, but I will explain it again and again until you understand. Would you mind telling me about yourselves first?"

As expected, the king, even if he speaks normally, his voice feels dignified. We looked at each other and the guy at the other end, the red-haired handsome guy, pointed at himself. Apparently, he's going to speak first.

"I am Alec Gilfleir of the Ao-Tian Knights of the Nagia Empire, and I have been transported to this world by a prophecy from the Great Spirit. I was sent to this world by a vision from the Great Spirit with an order to defeat the Demon King."

It seems that the handsome Alec is from a world where gods and spirits are real.

The forced summoning type magic called hero summoning develops in a form that suits the form of the world, like an oracle from God. In a civilization where gods exist, the form of an oracle is taken, so in his world, the great spirits are probably the substitutes for the gods.

It's not that they are great because they are spirits, but the fact that spiritual beliefs exist and are believed in seriously is not very different from the civilization level of this world. Well, the clothing is a bit different, but he said he belongs to the knightly corps, and I think it's about the same.

When Alec finished introducing himself, the woman next to him stepped forward. She is rather tall, somewhere around 165 to 170. She's dressed like a sister and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Nice to meet you. I am a priest of the Church of the Holy Light, and my name is Fairis. I have been ordained by the Lord to serve the people of this world to the best of my ability."

Fairis speaks while bowing nicely, but apparently, there are gods in her world too. So is this world the on same level as his world? If the level of science and technology and magic technology exceeds a certain level, existences such as gods and spirits will lose their faith and disappear, so from my point of view, this is like they are shouting that the level of civilization of their world is low. I'm starting to feel like there's no one I can seriously talk to.

When Fairis finishes speaking, the other guy comes forward next.

" Hi, I'm Sagami Ryouhei of the Republican Army Special Operations Department. When I was sent away, there was nothing like an omen, but during the operation, I was enveloped in the light of the magic circle and found myself over here."

The fact that he was sent with either military affiliation or a summoning team only means that he was sent from a world with a civilization level of the early modern era or higher for now.

Still, it's a pity that he's in the middle of a mission. He must be wondering what's going on with his unit. But his attitude shows no signs of anxiety. As expected of a military man, I was unconsciously impressed.

Well, it's my turn next, but I'm not good at speaking in front of such a large number of people. Others may be accustomed to this from their titles, but I've been withdrawn in the lab and haven't had much experience in situations that attract a lot of attention. While being throbbing inwardly, I went forward with my chest stretched out to make myself look decent.

"Hi, I'm Yard Werner, a member of the Gino Super Magic Empire's Magic Lab, Strategic Class Development Team. I was caught by a summoning team when I was in the lab and was sent here."

You can see that the eyes of those around you are gathering. There are a variety of eyes looking at the existence of a hero with anticipation, and others looking at us with eyes that are clearly looking at something unusual. Many people are paying attention to my outfit in particular. Jerseys are indeed unusual here, but I don't want them to be so jaded. I go back to the back, feeling their eyes on me.

"Well, I understand why you are here. Now let's talk about the reason for inviting you here. Our country is at war with the Daro Demon Empire, and there have been many fierce battles in the borderlands. But their country has begun to break the law. They unleashed a powerful demon on the battlefield, and one by one, our nation's elite were defeated. When we finally defeated the demon, many of our soldiers had lost their lives. At this rate, the front line would inevitably collapse. So as a last resort, we had no choice but to summon the heroes. I urge you guys to defeat the forces of the Demon Empire. "

"I want to ask one question."

"Good, say it."

"Can I return to the original world after repelling the demon empire?"

This is a rather important issue. In the worst-case scenario, I could write the repatriation team myself, but that would require a lot of work and would take several years to complete. If I opened up that much work, I would definitely be fired first. [This doesn't make sense but I can't help it sorry]

"That's ... unfortunately I can't. I can only summon a hero."

Hearing the king's words, the brave men were upset. Well, even in the academy it was reported that the existing rate of repatriation magic was about forty percent, so I, who thought it probably couldn't be done, wasn't moved. In my mind, though, I had reached a state of enlightenment. Goodbye, my job.

Sagami was badly upset among the brave men. His calm demeanor from earlier was broken and his eyes were swimming everywhere. He didn't show any attitude until a while ago, but I think he was really worried about the operations and the troops.

Seeing the upset heroes, the guys around start whispering about something. Sophia is staring at us anxiously. Is this the scene where I, who is calm, should say something?

"I'm sorry for you guys. The treatment here will be as convenient as possible, so please forgive me. It's a pitiful story, but you're the only one who the country can rely on."

"Please save this country from the demon empire."

I'm glad I didn't speak out with a strange and dangerous sense of responsibility. Upon hearing the King's and Sofia's request, Alec and Fairis came out in front of him with a calm face.[It said sly face but I'm not sure about that']

"Leave it to me, Your Majesty the King. I swear on the Great Spirit and my sword that the country's crisis will surely be saved."

"Yes, it is a natural thing to give a helping hand to those who seek help. I can't fight because I'm not strong, but I can heal your soldiers. Please use my power, too."

Their remarks elicited an Ooh and Aah from the guys around them. The two of them got ahead of me, which made it hard for me to say no, I honestly wish they would stop. Sagami next to me also has a subtle look on his face, so it seems that I haven't changed my mind. I'm not from this country, I'm not a person who wants to die or anything, so it's only natural to think that I don't want to fight on the battlefield as I please.

"I see! Glory to the brave men and women who rushed to our nation's peril!"

The king's voice was followed by the minister's, "Glory!" It's always the case that I'm involved but I notice that I'm something like an extra. Sagami sighed and gave a beautiful salute to the king with a blown-out face. Don't get motivated you... it's no longer an atmosphere that you can completely refuse. When I reached the point of giving up, I decided to keep a tense smile as if I had facial neuralgia.

...

After the audience, we first went to our assigned rooms and then gathered in Alec's room. There are currently six people in this room: four brave men, a princess, and a chambermaid.

"I think we should start by learning about each other's abilities. I'm going to go first, so let's go through them in order. I mainly fight with a magic sword. I'm not able to use magic, but with this sword, in which the spirits' blessings reside, I can defeat any number of soldiers from the demon empire, no matter how many they come."

Alec drew his sword with a confident look on his face. It's certainly loaded with magic power. However, the ability to use it for interpersonal combat in a war between countries is delicate. You can't even use a tactical grade formula, that's just the medieval era.

When Alec finishes showing the magic sword in one go, he turns to Fairis, and Fairis nods and stands up. It seems that it's Fairis' turn next.

''I can't do combat magic, but I can do healing magic. I believe I can heal any severely wounded person as long as they aren't dead, and I'd like to tend to the wounded behind me."

''To be able to use God's grace, restoration magic, in human flesh: ... So Lady Fairis was a saint."

According to what the princess told me, the recovery techniques can only be used by people called saints. I didn't expect the development of magic technology to be this slow. I know several types of recovery system techniques that do not depend on an individual's ability. The most primitive of them is the one based on faith, which is called the grace of God. And yet, it's surprising how few of them can even be used in this world. I'm even beginning to be impressed by the low level of magic technology in this world.

When I was lamenting the hebo of this world, Sagami stood up. After all, it is a good impression that the spine extends rapidly like a soldier.[hebo = clumsy]

"I can only use crafting magic. Though I think my anti-personnel combat ability is reasonably high. My own opinion is that I'm better suited to missions such as espionage and reconnaissance. I'd appreciate it if you would give this some thought when assigning your troops."

The crafting magic that Sagami refers to is a type of art form like golem creation or weapon creation. It can be said to be a pretty rare magic that is sometimes seen in the world that established a magic technology system after evolving without relying on magic during the development of early civilization. He seems to be more useful than the other two, at least in terms of knowledge of science and technology. The battle is said to be fought using weapons made with crafting magic.[Re-read this para again SLOWLY if this didn't make sense.]

''Well then, it's Yard-sama's turn next."

As I was thinking about it, it was my turn. This is my chance to show off how awesome my world is, so I'm going to talk about it in a confident way.

"Oh, you can assume that I can use all kinds of basic magic, but I majored in Type Four, Strategic Level magic and Type 7, Physho-expression, so I'm good at those techniques. If you're going to be in charge of the battlefield, I'd appreciate it if I was in charge of logistics."[Something like psychokinesis I guess]

The fourth type of strategic level magic is a magic art system that can target a very long distance or a wide area using a magic circle, and the seventh type of psycho-expression magic is a magic art that doesn't require pronunciation or movement element when activating magic, and can perform telephathy and theft.

"Wait, I don't know what you're talking about. The strategic level is probably referring to large scale range magic, but could you elaborate on the other one a bit more?"

Sagami would say something like that. It's a very simple explanation that couldn't be simpler than this, but that's why they have a low level of magic technology. There is no choice but to activate a telepathy as a demonstration.

"In other words, it's this kind of magic."

"Huh? Master Yard, did you just speak to me?"

"Does this mean it's like a sign from ... the Great Spirit?"

"It feels like an oracle, but you're speaking to me, aren't you?"

"A spell that allows you to talk without sound. But still, you're an amazing magic user, to be able to use it without chanting or tools."

There's about one person who doesn't understand it, but since the brave men and women got it, it's okay.

The truth is, I'm better at brainwashing and theft, not telekinesis, but I don't think the guys in the immature civilization who don't understand the usefulness of this magic can understand this wonderful thing, so it's better not to mention it.

"Can the magic, for example, fly from here to the border that is the front line?"

"Oh, it's okay as long as you can identify the person. If you have something like a landmark, you can identify it anywhere in the world."

Sagami asked me something nice, so I answered. I looked around to see if they were frozen in amazement at how amazing the technique was, but Sagami was the only one who was astonished. The rest of the guys are like, "So what?" Yeah, honestly I was licking their low level. I have to reflect on this.[No clue what this means]

I showed them some flames and such, but I'm shocked that they praised me more for that. I couldn't demonstrate the strategic level of magic, but that's okay. It's not much of a difference since it's hard to draw a magic circle and above all the amount of magic power used is too much and I don't want to waste a shot.

''Alright, from now on, the four of us are going to work together to fight the Demon Empire. To do so, we should trust, cooperate, and help each other. Of course, it's important to remember to train every day and make an effort to get acclimated to this country quickly. And ..."

I'm bored with Alec's long story and I'm thinking about the future, pretending to be listening seriously. Honestly, unlike these guys, I don't want to go to war. Who would bother to participate in a fight where there is a chance of death? If I do go, I want it to be somewhere less dangerous. Let's also consider fleeing this castle in case of an emergency.
