Chapter 5 - Taking Inventory

"I guess that answers all the questions that I can think of right now so you two can go. Take your weapons too, unless you want to leave them." [Dmitriy]

After untying the annoying brat, the two ran off without another word, taking weapons their along with them. I made sure to pay close attention to the two as they left the camp, making sure that they didn't double back and attack me. I might appear overcautious, but, in my defense, the same caution delivered me unharmed through life until this point and it never hurt me as far as I'm aware. When the two were out of sight, I simply sat and drank alone for an hour, keeping close watch on the surrounding forest and sipping a warm cup of ale that the bandits didn't finish. Surprisingly, the stuff wasn't bad at all, in fact the ale was pleasant to my untrained taste. It had a rich apple-like flavor mixed with a slight spice of cinnamon.

"Wonder if this was bought in this world's variant of autumn. Oh well, it doesn't seem that the girls are coming back for me." [Dmitriy]

I scanned the clearing's edge one last time before downing the rest of the ale and taking stock of the supplies I had successfully pilfered.

"Come to think of it, those two didn't leave with any packs. That is a bit odd." [Dmitriy]

While looting the supplies, my mind wandered to the information Ronda gave me. According to her, this world is called Devrinthal and is inhabited by four main races: humans, elves, dwarves, and beastmen. Dwarves were the first to inhabit the land followed by the long-lasting elves. Finally humans and the beastmen arrived. I believed that beastmen were similar to intelligent wild animals so I didn't ask questions about them, although I should have.

Moving on, Devrinthal has many existing gods. First are the four Dwarven gods, or the Old Ones as they are called, who shaped the world and gave life to all. These four are named Dvalim, god of the earth; Nagi, god of the sea; Varad, god of the sky; and Gaia, goddess of life. Soon after shaping the world, the human gods, or the Seven, arrived. Obviously, there were seven of them and they were named Tellus, goddess of earth; Vulcan, god of fire; Neptune, god of water; Boreas, god of wind; Iovis, god of lightning; Apollo, god of light; and Erebus, god of dark. Apparently, these seven gods were not creators but givers of magic, which surprisingly existed in this world. Each god has a defined attribute of magic which they specialize in and grant the people of this world. From what I understood, each branch of magic is fairly versatile but I didn't ask much else about it. I felt that magic is probably something easier picked up from a specialist instead of a random girl in the forest.

Beasts and monsters also roamed the world, ranging from traditional animals from my home world to slimes and krakens. Apparently, beasts are regular animals that typically are not sentient or aggressive to humans. This category includes animals like boars, bears, and even phoenixs, which is a mythical beast. The goblins and hobgoblins I fought with apparently fall under the category of monster due to their intelligence and evil mindsets. Others include vampires, skeletons, zombies, and slimes. The explanation surrounding beasts and monsters was, understandably, vague because of the vast amount that existed within this world.

Money was also split under 11 different denominations of currency, which I compared to USD since I was usually paid in USD for assassination requests. Ronda also asked me if I lived under a rock my entire life, but I explained her suspicions off by saying I was a vagabond who hunts for a living and had just been robbed. Anyways, the denominations of currency, in order from the least value to the highest value, is copper coin, iron coin, silver coin, gold coin, platinum coin, and then the emerald coin. Each one is divided into subdivisions of small and large coins, except for the emerald coin. I decided to think of the currency in terms of a chart and this is what I came up with.

Small Copper = 1 USD Large Copper = 5 USD

Small Iron = 10 USD Large Iron = 50 USD

Small Silver = 100 USD Large Silver = 1,000 USD

Small Gold = 10,000 USD Large Gold = 50,000 USD

Small Platinum = 100,000 USD Large Platinum = 1,000,000 USD

Emerald Coin = 100,000,000 USD

These were all rough estimations based on my worlds standards, but within this world copper coins were commonly referred to as Meltos, iron coins were called Frase, silver coins were Yuran, gold were Terem, platinum were Plaenum, and emerald coins were called Ruans. There were no special names for the large coins so large coppers were just 5 Meltos, a large iron was just 5 Frase or 50 coppers, and so on. Essentially, the main currency I would be dealing with was coppers and 2 small coppers could buy me an apple to snack on. I know this because I asked Ronda.

I also learned that this world currently is split into 3 main continents: Ruria, Erendal, and Nointa. Apparently, I am situated on the Rurian continent in the kingdom of Amstel. There were 11 other kingdoms spread across the continents, but I don't need to know about those for now. Finally, the nearest city was due west of the bandit camp, about a day's travel away.

At this point, I finished inspecting the loot I had valiantly gained from the bandits. Inside the only covered wagon off to the side of the encampment, I found three additional barrels of ale along with preserved meats, various vegetables, and a small deposit of riches within a chest. Along with the bandit's weapons, personal funds, and clothing, the goods were extremely satisfying to take.

"Justice done and money taken. Now to plan for the future." [Dmitriy]

My mood had noticeably improved with the insurance of my immediate future and I found myself thinking that this new world might not be so bad after all. Drinking through the night, my spirit partially restored itself and I slowly began to adapt to my new life.

'A blank slate life with nothing on it.' [Dmitriy]

"Io~vis!" [Erebus]

"What do you need of me Erebus?" [Iovis]

"I would like for you to not bless this child before me. I have found him sufficiently entertaining to merit my blessing." [Erebus]

"So you desire that I wait until you have blessed the child?" [Iovis]

"Precisely." [Erebus]
