We ran towards the tree border, falling and stumbling, the whole way through.
As we were running I tripped over something fell and hit my head on a big rock.
My vision began to go blurry and Jack's voice was far away. Or was it? I blinked and shook my head. This weird buzzing noise kept going on in my ears.
I felt a pair of hands on my shoulder and looked up to see Jack yelling at me. I got up super dizzy and picked Tomas back up. Tomas was a lot heavier now.
We kept running, my head still felt dizzy. The trees in front of us were spinning and I felt like I was about to run into one of them if I wasn't careful.
We could see the playground, just a couple of minutes away. We ran and ran, faster and faster. Trying to make it before we got caught again, and probably by somebody who didn't care about anyone of us.
We finally exited the trees, Tomas in my arms, and Jack started yelling for help. Some kids stopped playing tetherball and ran towards us. 2 girls and 1 boy.
The first girl was tall and slender with blonde hair and blue eyes. The second girl was short and scrawny with brown hair and blue eyes. The boy was tall and looked finely built with orange hair and black eyes.
"OMG," the first girl yelled.
I fell to my knees and dropped Tomas on the grass. I was too tired to look over to see what Jack was doing. It felt like I was carrying 500 tons of bricks.
We would be celebrities in this school for surviving the Trees with all our fingers, toes, and ears. Tomas was out cold, still. I bet he had a concussion from getting hit in the head so many times.
My vision started to go blurry and voices sounded disoriented.
"We, need to get him to the nurse. Maybe she can help him."
"THE NURSE!!! Look at him, he needs a doctor!"
"Can somebody just help him???" Jack finally piped up.
It was silent for a long moment. Just a lot of heavy breathing filled the moment.
I closed my eyes and lied back on the grass. I took in the afternoon breeze and thought of what just happened. I began to laugh.
I don't know if it was because of how stupid it was that we all went out into the Trees or if it was just because we survived. My thoughts were rattled and my heart was racing.
My laughter died down and I smiled. I looked over at Jack who had a confused look on his face. Like he was trying to ask what the hell was wrong with me.
"We survived," I said simply.
I got up and started to walk towards the building. I noticed a group of kids playing basketball stop and look at me. I saw the jump rope girls stop, too. I took a big breath and fainted.
