"Don't worry, we're almost home ~~~"
The last part slips away from him as he stares ahead at the giant dome that looks much like one of the nests from the picture books he read as a child. The dead grass folds gently under his small weight and the world seems so much bigger than he is used to, even the woman who was walking beside him, and was holding his hand looks like a tower when compared to his height. Gigantic creatures crawl in and out of the nest, their shape resembling that of a spider. Spiders were not uncommonly seen where he lived, but where did he live? He couldn't recall. They pass other people who greet them as they walk by. Also, many of the creatures pass by, some go around them while some simply step right over them which exposes their soft underside. The creatures are a brownish yellow, as is the air.
Shades of yellow and brown float around them, the colours sometimes divided, leaving white lines. The sky, no longer blue like in the fairy tales his mother used to read to him before bed. To his left, he sees rows of old, mutated trees, that twist around each other in odd ways. Their colour is almost as green as the leaves that were said to grow on them before, but now they are bare like in the winter months. If only there were snow. He remembers the tales of the cold, but beautiful snow that fell a long time ago. As he looks away from the trees he sees on the other side of him is an open field of dead grass.
Between the passing creatures, he could only see a small grey bump in the distance. He tries squinting to see what it is, but it's too far to make out any details. He looks back to the nest and it is only a few feet away now, the inside looks like a maze with many floors. He could see stairs and tunnels, even some ladders made of the wall. He stands before it as an unpleasant noise fills the air. He lets go of the woman's hand and places both his hands over his ears but the sound didn't stop, it didn't even get any quieter. It was loud but familiar, like an alarm... what even was an alarm again...?
