"Yes" I heard it say. Not gonna lie that sent a shiver down my spine.
"I suggest you find a different meal." I spoke back and took one more step forward.
"There is a new meal in mind" the wolf growled.
"Not without a fight" I growled, my line of sight aiming just below its glowing amber eyes.
Lowering its head the wolf looked to be getting ready to jump. I readied for an attack when all of us heard it. The low low howl in the distance. One that made your whole body shiver, like just after a horror flick. I watched the wolf stop, lift up to a full standing position and listen. The howl started again, this time closer.
I was looking everywhere, as was both dogs. The large wolf turned and leaped in one fluid motion. You could hear its howl matching the other in the distance.
"What the hell kinda wolf was that!" I heard my hound say.
"A prehistoric dire wolf is the only thing that is close enough to fit." I shivered. "I am gonna go back and get the rifle." I headed quick toward the house.
"Should have brought it the first time" I heard the livestock dog say in a huff. Rolling my eyes I kept jogging back to the house.
Cresting the corner of the house toward the door, I caught movement and literally skidded to a stop just below another dire wolf sitting on the ramp near my door. This one's coat was brown, nothing flashy like the wolf I seen before. Though a blatantly large difference was its eyes. They were a glowing color of violet. In the low light the glow was frightening.
"Do not fear me cub," the earthy wolf said.
"Cub?" I questioned. My hand on my pistol.
"Yes, cub. I can smell the wolf blood in your veins. It is the reason you can hear us and see the past, present and future on many levels." It sat in front of my door. Blocking me from getting inside!
"Wolf blood? I am Native, Irish and Prussian" I lifted a brow.
"There is wolf in you. I smell it. I sense you have more power then you even know. I smell your wildness." She glanced off toward the way the red wolf ran. "There was an ancient race, called Lyicans. They were wild and ran the forests much like wolves do now. Look up the Ancient land of Lyica. They were ruled by the Goddess Leto." The wolf rose. I realized it was female. "I must tend to that red haired wolf." She lifted her nose to the wind. "Your male approaches."
As stunned as I was, I was in awe of her magnificence and power. She leaped straight off the porch to the road and across to the open land. I knew of the Goddess Leto. She had been present many times over the course of my spiritual awaking and how I ended up landing here. So for a massive wolf, to appear and let alone a second sitting on my porch. Made me really take a step back.
Why would a dire wolf thing, mention the Goddess Leto to me know less. Lyica I had heard of it. Part of what is now Turkey, Anatolia was the province Lyica had been formed. The same place my livestock guardian dog hailed from. While lost in thought it was then I seen head lights coming up the drive. I was standing in the storm soaked to the bone. I had no idea how long the time had been from then to now.
Why was things connecting? What was the reason? But most of all, why now?
