Chapter 1 - The Beginning

In another universe on a small planet theres a vast forest known as 'The Slaughter Forest'. Strolling through this forest is a lady around 60-70 years old she has platinum hair and eyes with a wisdom and kindness beyond her years. Despite the name of the forest shes quite relaxed as if she was taking a stoll through a garden.

*WAAA WAAA*

She heard a cry but not the cry of a beast. Curious she follows the sound and before she knew it she was near the edge of the forest. Listening closely she quickly found the origin of the wailing, it was baby not even a year old wrapped in a rough clothe and laying in a terribly weaved basket.

"Shhhhh hello there" she said softly to calm the child. Looking at it she sees that it was malnutritioned and sickly. She guessed it was abandoned by its family. The closest village to here was about 30 minutes away but it was a poor one. Knowing this the family probably couldn't afford an extra mouth to feed. She has a few children with children of their own but shes never thought of adoption so she decided to leve it at a near by orphanage.

*WAAAA WAAAA*

She picks up the baby and begins to sway while shushing it softly "sh sh sh Are you hungry? Im old so i cant feed you myself but lets see what i have as a replacement." Staring at her jade braclet for a minute or two. She swiped her braclet and in a flash of light a flask and needleless syringe is in her hand. "You better be grateful, this is the milk of a Golden Sun Cow and i was going to use to make a special pill."

Unscrewing the flask and filling the syringe she placed it in a semi up right position. Then she placed her finger in its mouth over its tongue til it starts to suck. When it did that she slipped the syringe by her finger and slowly pushed out the milk. She continued to do this till it was satisfied.

Placing the baby in a sitting position she proceeded to burp it. Holding it by her shoulder she swayed back and forth till it fell asleep. Tapping on the air a hole opens up in front of her like a doorway and she walks through.

On the other side is a path in a wooded area leading to a small town on the other side of the forest. With a flick of her wrist a light flew out and took the form of a small horse less two person carriage. Riding to town she decides to get a better look at the baby. It had black hair and if she remembered correctly green eyes. Unwrapping the blanket she finds that what she thought was a girl was a boy.

an hour later, they reached the town gates and after a small inspection she asked "wheres the orphanage here?". Looking the curious child that woke up not long ago the guard said "Its on the other side of town ma'am but i dont recommend taking him there though"

"Why is that?" She questioned but had already guessed what it was but asked anyways to assure her suspicions. "They're poor, poorer than poor with no church here they have no support and the lord ignores their pleas but its not his fault taxes are low and barely has enough for himself."

Thanking him with a silver coin she proceeds to find the orphanage. Once she got there she saw how dilapidated it is but heard the laughter of children. Hearing this she knew it was a kind place. Walking to the door knocked twice and waited.

After a few knocks later a young lady 18 or 20 year old with messy light brown hair and freckles opened the door. "Hello, uh im sorry for my appearance and taking so long i was busy with... how can i help you?" Looking at her she wore a dress that was a little to worn and patched in many places. "Are you the matron of this place? My name is Metilda Fair-Scale" Metilda said reaching for a handshake.

"Im Zea and no im not the matron she's currently in the kitchen making food for the children. Please come in ill go get her." Zea said as she rushed off nearly tripping in the process. Peeking around Metilda noticed that its a whole lot cleaner and taken care of inside. Whilst examining a picture of the orphanage she heard a voice from behind "hello im matron Adelaide how can i help you." Turning around she scrutinized the women surprised seeing a middle aged women dressed in a dress an innkeeper or bar maid would wear. "Sorry my husband owns a bar in town me and some of the older kids work there uts where we get the funds now are you here to adopt or putting on up?"

"Yes i am, i found this little guy here abandoned in the woods so i decided to find a good orphange for him to stay." Metilda said as she looked into the childs eyes that had a strange sharpness to them reminding her of a beast. Smiling she poked its cheek and getting a couple giggles as a reward.

"Great then lets go to my office fill out a few papers and then well be good to go." The matron said as she led the way. On the way the matron stopped a boy with red hair thirteen maybe and asked him to look after the boy. After awile the entered a small room with a file cabinet and small desk. "Please sit ill get the papers real quick."

The Matron fished through the cabinet pulling out a piece of paper. Walking to the desk she said "Just sign here, put his name and gender here, and the fee in 10 copper, if you wish we accept donations as well." After signing is metilda realized she hadn't given him a name. Thinking for a while she remembered the feeling she got when looking in to his eyes and decided upon Cadmus.

"Ok ill pay the fee plus ill donate 100 gold now and seeing how ive come to like the boy ill visit every one or two months. Ill donate gold, different meats ,and milk, the meat is for everyone but the milk is for the boy and no one else." She said while finishing up and looked to the wide eyed matron. " ONE-ONE-ONE HUNDRED GOLD!?! Thank you so much Thank you we are very thankful" the matron yelled and bowed multiple times not noticing that the gold came seemingly out of nowhere. She carefully filed the paper and put the gold into a safe hidden by a painting.

"Ill also be teach him martial arts once he old enough to walk and dont treat him any different from the rest of the children. If i come here and he has a spoiled personality ill stop my donations... got it?" Metilda said releasing barely a sliver pressure on the matron. "Yes ma'am we'll raise him as if he were my own" said the matron shivering and weak kneed.

"Good, ill leave some food and milk for this month and the next and remember the milk is very special. If anyone other than him gets some and ill know. ill do as i said before and stop the donations... but for today ill help cook show me to the kitchen." Metilda said stressing every word. "Yes ma'am just this way to the back." The matron lead the way into a kitchen. The kitchen was big enough for three people and the stove was a decent size with a big pot on top and in the middle stood a table for preparing ingredients. Pulling out two large chunks of meat and several spices Metilda got to work.

After two hours the food was ready and with Adelaides and Zeas, who was apparently the matrons daughter, help the servered to food to all the childern. According to the matron there are thirty children in total. Metilda fed Cadmus the same milk as before "After this i cant give you anymore this milk is hard to come by so youll have to make do with what i give you later" Cadmus groaned in what seemed to be acceptance.

Awhile later they walked to the front door and poking Cadmuses cheeks earning giggles in return. "I must be leaving now, take this slip and break it if you ever need me and remember its only for emergencies." She said as she gave Cadmus over to Zea and handed a fine wood slip to the matron. Once Cadmus was in Zeas hands he started crying, she rocked him back and forth making him reluctantly fall asleep. "Ill see you next month cadmus." Metilda said as she put a necklace around him with a platinum eastern dragon coiling around a needle with a gem at the top. After kissing him on the head she left and so starts the beginning of Cadmus The Mithril Dragon of legends.
