Her eyes, not just hers, everyone's eyes couldn't leave the huge black bird, Exphoris. The previous week, Jewel Alby had brought out her latest invention and tried it on the huge bird. Exphoris was supposed to die this present day as predicted by the Seer but he seems so agile now which got the entire Herbalor sect curious if Jewel's invention had worked.
"...Shayiyayaya kumkum lamiana woyaaaa", the seer chanted walking round with her staff of her own length in the circle formed by the people of Herbalor with Exphoris standing mightily in the center.
"Xiannoe mana youki liamano rampiano"
She ran quickly round the circle repeating the same words over and over again for about three minutes.
"Loresh baya nayina", the seer screamed at the top of her lungs, as she stopped running, dropping her staff on the floor with full force going totally silent. Her face looked up to the sky, her eyes softly shut. All of Herbalor's eyes were on her wondering what the gods could be telling her. It wasn't like anyone understood what the seer has been saying or understood her act, they were all focused, curiously waiting for an answer. If Jewel's immortality concortion works, the people of Herbalor would be the greatest sect in Alor.
"My king", The seer shouted making everyone jerk. No one expected the sudden shout. She picked up her staff and calmly walked towards the king who was seated on his throne which was temporarily set up right at the starting point of the circle, patiently waiting for the results.
"Yes Eleanor speak", The muscular hard faced king calmly said looking to the seer right at the face. His voice and physique revealed nothing but a warrior and he was. It was one of the reasons Herbalor sect had made him the king.
"It works", Eleanor simply said, loud enough for everyone to hear and murmurs arose in the crowd.
The relief which ran through Jewel's spine couldn't be explained. If the concortion works, she'd be a legend and not just a cultivator who specializes in healing with herbs. That wasn't what she was after though, she was after the well being of her sect. She wanted to see other sect jealous of her sect and she wanted to be the reason.
The king sharply stood up from his throne and walked closer to the seer who bowed her head immediately in reverence. He smiled and walked to Exphoris and touched it wings lovingly.
"How will I be sure the concortion works?", The king asked in a loud voice.
"My king, you can try killing it", Eleanor confidently said raising her head to look at the king.
"Jewel", The king called looking around and the murmurs from the crowd died down
"My king", Jewel said finding her way through the crowd and forward. She was too curious to stay in front.
"Your highness", she said bowing slightly in reverence.
"You heard what the seer said, She said I should try to kill Exphoris", The king said loudly. His voice was naturally that loud.
"You all know how Exphoris is our greatest weapon in the sect, He isn't just any creature, he is a mystical creature sent to us by the god of our sect", the king said addressing the people.
"If I try to kill it and it dies which means the immortality concortion didn't work, what should we do?", The king asked the people and Jewel's heart raced in fear. She never thought of the negative side.
There was silence for a while,
"Make her soul perish, disappearing in the wind", Someone said from the crowd and murmurs arose, louder now, everyone affirming the suggestion.
Herbalor was naturally the most cruel sect out of the seven sect in Alor. Their punishments were usually strict and their way of showing respect was really too humble. She didn't expect anything less but, they could have considered the fact that she's the only one in the entire sect who could heal them with nothing but nature. Their sect got formed through the believe that nature was really important and pure, they believed in nothing and can't use anything except the natural which means their daily and necessary needs her only met by nature.
Jewel looked around in fear. If it didn't work she'd disappear without a trace. She was still very much young, in few days time she'd be eighteen and they want her to perish?
She nervously looked around, no one was against the suggestion, she could see everyone's lips affirming YES! and YES! and YES! all over again. She swallowed hard and dropped her head, maybe she should just back out.
"Silent now!", The king ordered sharply and silence went everywhere almost immediately.
"Are you confident of your work Jewel?", The king asked looking at her.
She wasn't sure anymore. Infact, it was a No.
"My king, don't you think you're doubting the god of Herbalor, he clearly told me the concortion works", Eleanor steps in.
"The god of our sect has also asked us to test things and see if it's right", The king said, coldly staring at her.
She bowed in reverence.
"If it doesn't work that means you lied and you know the punishment for lying to the people ", the king said to her and she raised her head to look at him.
"Yes my king", Eleanor confidently affirmed.
"I am really sure it works", she quickly added and the king smiled looked quickly to his people before looking to Jewel.
"Are you sure of your creation?", The king asked.
Jewel looked to Eleanor who nodded positively at her with an assuring smile.
She sighed, her herbs never fail to work and they wouldn't fail now. Her mother had told her no matter the herb she makes it would always work because the god of herbalor had looked upon her with love and singled her out to be blessed.
"Yes my king", she said.
"Alright then", The King said and looked around and walked to the big bird.
"This is the greatest spell for death, it works on every mystical creature, humans or animals and you all know that ", the king said and cleared his throat.
"Shamia loino koronia lamiano Exphoris", the king exclaimed at the top of his voice, his eyes focusing on the bird, every eyes on the bird but it didn't move. It didn't fall down or scream in pain, it only stood mightily staring down at the people.
It dropped everyone's mouth.
The bird didn't die!
The king smiled and walked to Jewel who hurriedly bowed in reverence.
"You did well my child", he exclaimed and Jewel raised her head happily with a bright smile. Her sea blue eyes glittering in happiness and the whole Herbalor screamed in celebration.
"For this victory of being immortal, the greatest weapon of man that has been created by our sect, I hereby declare seven days of no work but feasting and celebration", the king spoke out loud to the crowd and everyone's joy knew no bound.
Jewel hurried to the seer and hugged her. They were not naturally close, she was just pretty excited, besides, they are agemates. They had only met each other once which was when the god had singled the both of them out as his close worker, Jewel in charge of the herbs and Eleanor in charge of getting messages from the god. Being in office still didn't give them the chance to meet each other and now....
"The god bless you", The seer said.
"Thank you so much", Jewel muttered pulling out.
"Be careful, I see a dark but beautiful path ahead of you, you will die and yet still not die because of this success", The seer suddenly said. looking at her with a sad smile.
"What do you mean?", Jewel asked really confused.
"I don't know what I mean either, all I know is you're not alone, you'll always be protected and guided", The seer said looking right to the sky. She sighed and looked back to her with a sad smile
"It's going to be fun though", she said with a small smile
"Enjoy the moment Jewel, you deserve it", Eleanor concluded patting Jewel's shoulder and walking into the crowd to celebrate.
Jewel stood blankly looking at the celebrating crowd, She doesn't want a dark path. She wants a normal life of being who she was, who she is in the moment. She was comfortable with healing the people of Herbalor with her blessed skill and receiving their happy thank you and little gifts.
She didn't want to die or not die, Whatever the seer meant. A woman from the joyful crowd pulled her into the midst of the crowd cutting her from her thought. She should definitely enjoy the moment as the seer had said. She danced and danced and danced, laughed and laughed and laughed, feasted and feasted and feasted with her sect just for the moment
