Hastily making his way towards the Venus auction house the city lord found a small group of military personnel subjugating the crazed. Some were killed while others had been suppressed and captured. Observing them, he took note of their aggressive and uncoordinated physical attacks.
'They don't seem to be able to utilize their qi... Could it be a side effect of inhaling that gas?'
His deduction seemed to make sense as most of the crazed were cultivators, cultivators capable of utilizing qi. So either they don't like using their qi or they couldn't us their qi... The former making little to no sense.
'We'll have to find that out later at the lab...'
. . .
Finally arriving at the auction house, the city lord was met with the same view he had when arriving at his headquarters. Countless corpses lay motionless and dead, blood leaking out of their wounds and staining the streets below. The only difference this time was that there were still many crazed fighting against the private guards of the auction house.
The guards had created a barrier made of qi using an artifact while that held up the crazed, they delivered countless attacks, targeting and taking down one crazed at a time. That was a good strategy given the disadvantage they were dealt with the numbers of the crazed far surpassing their own.
"Keep up the fight, and know that if you die, I die, and if I die, you family dies!!!"
An obnoxious voice was heard from behind the defensive line, causing veins to twitch for all that heard it. Surprisingly, even the city lord was annoyed as he thought, 'Why did, of all people, he had to survive??'
But that was going to have to wait as the attacks of the crazed seemed to intensify to some unknown reason. Popular opinion was that they too were annoyed by that obnoxious voice...
'They'll be overwhelmed soon... In that case I should make my move.'
With that, the city lord let out a loud angry battle cry that immediately drew the attention of the crazed ones. Turning around in a frenzy, they frantically made their way towards him; scratching, biting, and pulling against each other to make it to him first, creating a scene that seemed like it came straight out of a zombie movie.
The guards that saw this were beyond relieved as they exclaimed in happiness, "The city lord has come to aid us!!"
Watching as the wave of crazed ones came towards him, the city lord wasn't phased at all. Instead he slowly retreated, making sure he drew enough of the crazed away from the auction house. And once he had done that, he executed his attack!
Three Step Barrage!
Talking three steps forward, a barrage of attacks landed on the hoard of zom-crazed ones, blasting holes through them. The most impressive thing was that the city lord hadn't even attacked with his sword yet! Just this amount of damage was done by merely taking three steps forward!
Unfortunately for them, that attack hadn't taken them all out, so a. A means of ending the battle quickly, the city lord followed that up by good old-fashioned swordplay. Slicing and dicing his way through them with a swing of his sword, the city lord dealt with crazed one after the other, without even breaking a sweat.
By the end of it, countless dismembered bodies could be seen scattered across the street. Although blood had sprayed everywhere, surprisingly, not one droplet had made its way onto the city lord, his sword the only exception, for obvious reasons.
Swinging it to the side, he discarded the blood that had collected on his blade and sheathed it before turning his attention towards the guards that were finishing up the crazed at their end. Delivering the last strike, the guards had finally taken care of the last of those crazed monsters, and were finally given a chance to calm down.
"Its about time you showed up!"
Said a pretentious voice, causing the city lord's expression to sour.
'Ungrateful bastard, I'm starting to doubt whether saving his was the right choice or not...'
The person he was referring to was observed to be a man in his early forties with a grotesque belly. He had a sharp moustache and a temperament that screamed wealth.
Unfortunately, he had a sour personality making everyone either flat out hate him or just avoid him completely, the city lord belonging to the latter.
"Do you know how many men we have lost?! All this could've been prevented if you just did your job properly and protected the damned city!!! I'm going to report to my superiors, you can be sure of that!"
