Chapter 28 - A Warning

Everyone looked at the black cloudy mist with laser focus as they didn't want to miss anything. Slowly, strange murmurs appeared, everyone seemed to hear them as even the ones below on the streets could hear them. The murmurs were incoherent but one word kept being repeated thought out the multitude of voices;

KILL!

Suddenly ghastly black creatures flew out of the black mist. They looked a lot like writhes with their pitch-black skin, piercing red purples, and undead-like form. They were missing the cartilage of their noses and the skin of their lips, making their heads look exactly like an undead skeleton. Their frames were skinny allowing for their ribs to be counted but that didn't matter much as they had a thin semitransparent cloth surrounding their body, making them look like a ghost in one of them old American cartoons.

They came out fast heading towards the cultivators in the formation as well as the islands below. Sect Master Lei observing this clicked his tongue as he thought, 'Damned souls... Just my luck! But this is all the more reason to stay in the formation! Once the seal of the Guardian beasts has been lifted, that's when the real show begins... To think that all this is because of a single arcane plate....'

The more he thought about it the more he was getting pissed, but unfortunately, for now, all he could do was complete the formation.

The wraiths came out by the thousands, flooding each cultivation by at least twenty of them. The worst part was there seemed no end to the amount of wraiths the black mist spewed. Some of the wraiths decided to go towards the island below to wreak havoc but were promptly stopped by a transparent shield.

Being stopped by the shield, the wraiths mindlessly collided with it with the eventual end goal being the destruction of the shield. Of course with their added ability of dispersing energy, the shields would eventually turn into nothing.

One of the cultivators who was being attacked let out a sneer as a magnificent sword appeared behind his back. The sword was a work of art as it had an elegant feel to it. It was about three fingers in width and around a meter and a half long. It was decorated with mystical symbols as well as figures of dragons and Phoenixs.

The sword bolted toward the incoming monsters before piercing through their head or slashing their bodies. The writhes having incurred such damages were completely frozen. The bits and pieces of their bodies that had been blown off were suspended in mid-air as splashes of sand.

The sand then slowly returned to their bodies, filling up their wounds and healing them entirely. Similar happenings occurred around the formation where wraiths had attacked the cultivators. The cultivators seeing the ghastly creatures heal and reengage were less than pleased, as for starters, physical attacks were useless against them. And the other being that they were not keen on fighting such wicked and mysterious creatures.

To top it all off, some of the monsters started heading for the islands, the one below and the ones in the distance. The ones that headed below were eventually blocked off by a transparent barrier before suddenly being shot down by plasma cannons located along the perimeter of the barrier.

[Reader]: Haha, totally forgot this book had futuristic technology...

[BOB.C]: All fun and dandy but [Author] can you please do something about the current predicament I'm in?!!!! FOR FUCK SAKE!!

[Author]: Pridicament? What pridicamnet?? Hold on...

* * *

The [Author] directed the cameraman to turn towards the main characters-***[CameraMan: Finally I get my own chatbox!! About fucking time!!!]*** who seemed to be falling to their deaths as Elder Ming had hastily ditched them and gotten into formation! Falling to their death? HOLY SHIT!!!!! Yuno screamed at the top of her lungs as the six-winged crane flew around maniacally trying to slingshot them off its back. Why, you ask? Let's just say Elder Ming wasn't playing when she said they were prideful about their feathers: not only didn't they spend the majority of their life tending to it but saw any type of transgression against it as an act of war!

* * *

[CameraMan]: HAH, you should see the looks on their faces, fucking hilarious bruh!!!

[Reader]: Damn, [CameraMan] I ain't know you were here all along, what's up man; hows it hanging...

[CameraMan]: Same here man, in the beginning, I was everywhere overseeing everything, then suddenly I was here. Crazy turn of events if you ask me, but I ain't complaining. Besides, I've been observing all of you since the beginning and I've always wanted to interact with you so yea it is a whole ass plus to be here.

[Author]: Ah man, you could've said smtn... I'd have written you in long ago.

[CameraMan]: I ain't complaining G, I'm just happy to be here... Also shouldn't we get back to the story?

[BOB.C]: Finally, someone with some sense around here!

[Author]: reply to [CameraMan]: Oh shit, yea...

The teen was on the verge of tears as they kept swinging from side to side and from up to down. "Stop! Pleas, stop!!" Yuno screamed out but it was all for naught. The crane did all sorts of maneuvers but it couldn't shake off the duo which was really frustrating for it.

'Damned human, messing up my feathers like that!!!' it thought a it kept trying its hardest. The teen who had been left dismayed as he thought of possible solutions to his current pridicamnet.

Suddenly his eyes lit up as he managed to fish out a coin from a pocket in his rob. He then tossed a little, only enough for one revolution, before catching it. And by the speed and trajectory they were flying, this only went to show the unshakeable support plot armor provided.

When he opened his palms, he was delighted to see the stick side up. The coin then started glowing with golden color before exploding in a puff of golden smoke, and now in its place was a golden stick.

Of course the [Author] was calling it a stick mainly because he didn't know if he spelled staff correctly but that was besides the point. The stick was to sophisticated to be called a stick. Nah, this... this was a staff! It was decorated with mythical embroidery all along the shaft making it look like stuff of legends! Suddenly the staff moves as if it had a will of its own.

*BONK*

The SFX might have been silly, but it did indeed pack a punch. You can tell that by the way it left trails in the air as it smashed at the crane's skull.

The crane let out a piercing scream as blood sprouted from atop its cranium. It turned around to stare the concept of death into the two who had attacked it instead it was given a shock.

The staff had flown to the side, standing vertically over its precious wing's feathers. Of course, that alone was by no means scary in and of itself, but for the crane who could feel the heat that came off the bottom head of the staff, it was devastating.

A six-winged crane with burnt-up wings???? That wasn't gonna sit right with it or its flock. As it was about to fight back in frenzy it suddenly heard a cold voice coming from its back.

"Don't do anything foolish now..." The teen's eyes were too calm and too cold for these to be mere words. No... no, this.....this was a warning!
